I could see a 130m OW/350m DOM/750m WW performance which will be financially okay but I don't think it really launches the DECU because I don't think the DCEU can thrive if the launch movie is not a $1B+ WW film. It will eventually diminish quickly and you're back at the same issue you've had or the last 20+ years.

If this was the film that came out in 2013, I think it would have been massive. I think there's too much baggage on the Superman IP and this isn't exciting enough for the mainstream audience to change their mind.

Plus, being sandwiched between Jurassic Park and F4 won't help make it standout.

I think Gunn will do early fan shows similar to Guardians 3 where the buzz was meh leading to release. Post that sales picked up and it had a great run both domestic and OS.

I don't think it will bomb, or I didn't. But social media is so fucking toxic. Since its initial wave of positivity and optimism it has been showing some negative memes. I'm still in the "succeed" camp because I feel (and hope) that the negativity is just the more vocal minority that the masses don't actually take notice of.

Yeah almost 13 million non fans watch the puppy bowl. And they Watch it! May seem stupid. It's easy to say 120 milllion watch the superbowl, but more than half miss the commercials either way unless you are in the number one spot. I never found the allure of a tv spot for a movie with the superbowl, so many movies have flopped regardless. It would work better if there was campaign but that would be ridiculously expensive.

I can't think of a single film that ever benefitted from it. Captain America might be the best example because it's literally out 4 days later.

Yeah I think the simple decision to put the ad on the puppy bowl instead of superbowl got more positive buzz than any of the actual superbowl spots. And it was much cheaper! Superman is killing it on all fronts and I'm becoming more and more confident it will win the domestic crown and that I will be upset about picking Fantastic Four in the draft instead of it lol.

Though, even if it does hit my very optimistic $600M domestic, that might not even be good enough to push it into the top 3 worldwide lol. Avatar will be around 2 billion, Ne Zha probably just a bit under and I'd bet Zootopia makes at least $1.3B worldwide too.

The tone is really really good. Feels like Raimi's first Spider-man film. It was missing big time from Superman Returns and Man of Steel.

its anti-snyder Supes for sure. Everything seems so bright and light. I hope the script/execution works. I think cast looks good. But I see noises around Hoult being miscast as Luther. After Eisenberg another actor received badly would be something for sure. Matching Hackman is not easy but multiple actors were able to succeed as Joker and so Luthor should not be that difficult either.

That said my expectation for OW is not that high. if it can open to 100m OW and received well, its a huge success IMO>

I feel like 100m OW is guaranteed, BNW just did 88m and it’s not only Captain America, but also one who hasn’t been Captain America before on the silver screen. Supes should and will do better. Also, MOS OW adjusts to 159m, I can’t see Superman doing only 60% of that.
