Beetlejuice is kind of a friendlier version of the Joker. Will he pull the upset? Or does the Joker finally get revenge on Michael Keaton?

Joker will definitely win OW (by around 15-25m), Beetlejuice will probably finish ~5-10m above Joker

I think Joker opens big but people don't like it and it collapses massively leading Beetlejuice to get the win.

I can't believe this is even a question. They nailed that first trailer and it looked like The movie of the year until Disney made their big comeback. Joker really messed up by screening so early. Dial of Destiny made the same mistake last year.

I think Joker still wins but not by much. Legs will be shit.

I think Joker is going to underwhelm and its going to be close. I am betting on Beetlejuice over performing as well this weekend.

Joker (before the middling reviews) was always going to open big and then have a sharp second weekend drop. This is simply because many people will go OW expecting more of the first but will get something completely different (not saying bad, but different enough to turn a segment of the audience off who will spread bad WOM).

I'd love Venom sneaking into the conversation. Venom 2 opened to $90M in Oct. 2021 in the middle of the pandemic so feel like there was a cap on its OW but the franchise is well liked.

I dunno I’ve been thinking Joker (“Folie a Deux” ???) will underperform for a long time. I could be way off the cultural pulse here but I don’t feel much hype or demand for it.

Yeah no one is talking about Joker, but the incel demo could come out big and they tend to be quiet in public, but I also see them being the ones to be most turned off by the final product being a musical

It's not just incels that will propel this film just like it wasn't just Bible lovers that pushed The Passion to $370m. These films smashed through those demographic barriers, and that mainstream interest is still there. It's just that we're a month away and there's a queue. People have short attention spans and right now Beetlejuice Beetlejuice occupies their mind.

Beetlejuice 2 opening weekend > Joker 2 total. But at least Joker 2 can beat Beetlejuice 1 (72m).

Beetlejuice will be at $266M by the end of this weekend off of say a $10M ish 5th weekend.

Would be something if it managed insanely good legs over October and leading to Christmas to get to $300M but looks like a bit out of reach. Pretty great run for a sequel to a 40 year old film.

Random box office observation:
-TGM made 4.06X TG 1986 at the domestic box office.
-Interestingly, Beetlejuice 2 if it does 4.06X #1's box office of $73.7m would be at $299.2M. I'm not including re-releases, only original runs.

So it won't be that far off from a $290M finish. Meaning TGM and Beetlejuice 2 saw nearly the same box office bumps multiple wise from their 1980 predecessors, both opening 36 years later.

That goes to show just how big Maverick was since OG Top Gun is way bigger than Beetlejuice 1.

A shame Coming to America and Beverly Hills Cop sequels went straight to Netflix. They could have made some decent BO.

They tried for years with some off scripts and early to mid 90s were crazy for Spielberg and Zemeckis, then space jam came out and they thought they missed the window.

Joker's 2nd weekend = Beetlejuice's 6th weekend. Well probably not because I think they were being optimistic with the Sunday again
