 Re: Expendables 4 weekend thread
Not a bad expansion. Its release strategy is basically the Man Called Otto strategy from January, which seems to be working out well enough. Should end up being one of the better performing true story movies of the last few years.
Theatrical re-releases are really having a moment...personally I'm enjoying it.

 Re: Expendables 4 weekend thread
Not a surprise. I thought it would do half of what the third did. It's all it deserves in all honesty.

I think they needed better cast addition than 50 Cent, like Neeson or Chan or something. Travolta can be in the DTV.

I think those are the only big 80s action stars left for the franchise? 50 Cent and Megan Fox really aren't even known for action filme.

 Re: Expendables 4 weekend thread
The Nun II again holding off the opener by just a smidge. Last week it was Nun’s $14.5m to Haunting’s $14.3m, this week Nun estimated to beat out 3xpend481es $8.4m to 8.3m!
Meanwhile Barbie has its best weekend drop (16%). Greek Wedding 3 isn’t quite having the legs of the first. And studios really need to release something good for me to see. (I’m curious about Dumb Money and The Creator)

 Re: Expendables 4 weekend thread
It needs to be pointed out once again how stupid studios were to leave this weekend wide open while there are four new releases next week with double digit potential. And the people who make these terrible decisions also make So Much money. No wonder we are having strikes.

I feel like the Hunger Games was better off just trying to be a September blockbuster

 Re: Expendables 4 weekend thread
One of the worst weekends in awhile while the strike doesn't seem like its at its end just yet is fitting.

 Re: Expendables 4 weekend thread
Most puzzling weekend scheduling as we've seen the launch of some big movies in the past in late September but hopeful next weekend picks things up.
Also does The Nun 2 win the record for consecutive closest #1's ever? I can recall a movie having a photo finish one weekend but <$300K difference two weekends in a row? Seems even as the worst weekend of the year it's the only fascinating fact aside from the better holds from this weekend.

 Re: Expendables 4 weekend thread
There should be asterisk * to all the movies opening with no promotions by the actors.
Expendables 4 would easily open to $15m minimum

 Re: Expendables 4 weekend thread
I'd love a retrospective of box office for movies during the strike.
Equalizer 3 was right in line with the last two movies OW. It may finish not that far off from them with no promotion from Denzel.
Haunted Mansion $67M maybe $80M with stars but no one was asking for that movie. Meg 2 $82M maybe $90M don't think anyone really cared.
Gran Turismo probably would have been higher maybe $60M but Bloom and Harbor alone wouldn't have made a huge dent on box office.
Haunting In Venice probably maybe could have done $17-18M maybe with stars publicizing it.
Also think Expendables 4 was not going to do that well anyhow. Maybe $11-12 M with stars publicizing it?

 Re: Expendables 4 weekend thread
You should use the term "stars" loosely when talking about Expend4bles. It wouldn't have made a difference. Nobody cares about the franchise anymore. Haven't since 2012. Its whole reason for existence is lost, and the whole angle of "you'll never see all these stars together in one movie ever again" becomes super thin when you're churning out a FOURTH movie.
