I think this has the potential to reach $200m total if it gets the Church going crowd to see it multiple times.

The first did surprisingly well in OS markets as well, which will be interesting to track this time. With the growth of markets I wonder if this one can do $300m+ OS specially if it gets a release in China this time.

China wouldn't care about this. It won't even get a release. The only religion allowed in China is ... China.

Christianity isn't big in China. Who told you that? It has a presence. A small presence. I've seen the odd church, but never met any Chinese person that is Christian. Buddhism would be the religion to say "..is big in China", not Christianity. Even Islam ... there is an entire province associated with Islam even if the total followers do not match up to total Christians.

But the true religion in China is, as I already said, China. You have to love China and love its philosopher's teachings. Tao, Confucius etc.

Ah yes Buddhism is big. Its quite common for Chinese to be Christians here in Singapore, which is where I get my misconception.

I am surprised that The Passion of the Christ had a release in China. I mean, that was way before I came here, which is even more surprising. It is only in recent years that China has been "a bit" lax with releases. I just couldn't imagine in 2004 them allowing it to be released. According to Box Office Mojo, it made just $1.6m, so I guess it doesn't really matter. Even with China growing so much, I can't imagine (if it is released) it making much.

Sound of Freedom's run makes me think better for The Passion 2's prospects in February 2024. Easter is the end of March. Even if its box office was inflated early on seems like it will get it to a pretty big gross.

Passion 1 adjust to $546M+ now. Even without the hype of the first one and event status $225M wouldn't surprise me for a sequel next year.

Oh for sure. Every church will mobilize its followers to go see it in theaters. If it sticks with a February 2024 release date, we'll see two peaks, one at OW and then several weeks later on Easter weekend (it might even land in the top 5 for all-time highest grossing 6th or 7th weekend).

This is gonna be huge since The Passion actually had appeal beyond the MAGA/Angel studios crowd.
