Inflation aside of course, still crazy that the 11th installment in a franchise is still possibly 70% higher OW than the 1st installment, 39% higher than the 2nd installment and 192% higher than the 3rd installment. How they turned things around from Tokyo Drift (to have almost all 8 movies match or surpass Drift's total box office of $62.5M in their opening weekends 8X in a row) is legacy building in itself for the franchise in Hollywood.

That would be the equivalent of us saying Shazam 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10th films will all open to $58M+. :funny:

Pretty insane when you think about it!

That post credit scene in Tokyo Drift really did call on a franchise future nobody expected. What helped is none of the main four's careers really took off so they all came back to the Fast franchise.

Trending downwards as a franchise. How much longer can it cling on?

It is only just under F9, but it's still under. The jury is still out on whether the pandemic helped or hindered the previous movie, so it's hard to tell if this $67.5m is good or bad in relation to the last movie. But the optics don't look good.

It's a clear downturn on the domestic front as the last one would have made more in a non-pandemic market. It's the lowest opening since Fast 3 outside of Hobbes and Shaw. This Fast movie could be the lowest grossing since Fast 4 14 years ago domestic.

Global is the story though and we could get to the point of seeing an under $150M film in this franchise that still clears $750M+ global.

Pretty lame opening for its budget though international is good.

Every other film other than Mermaid could be under $15M by the time Spider-verse hits. Feels like it's going to have a wide open market. Could be the biggest OW of the year?

with this franchise it ain’t about domestic $$, but international boxoffice that matters. As long as it’s killing it worldwide it’ll keep going. It ain’t stopping at 12 either.

I think the Fast X OW is OK. Considering how bad F9 was - it was always going to shed some viewers.

That said - they should NOT make 2 more. End it on the next one and make a big deal about it being the FINAL. Could help it get to $200m again.

5/26 The Little Mermaid
6/2 Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse
6/9 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
6/16 The FLash / Elemental / The Blackening
6/26 No Hard Feelings / Asteroid City

I'll be watching ALL OF THEM :D except Asteroid City cause not a fan of that director's films. Also his films are not worth the big screen experience, IMO.

Asteroid City looks way more visually pleasing than No hard feelings or The Blackening

Visually sure but it’ll probably bore the hell out of me.

NHF & The Blackening will at least have me LMAO judging by the trailers & reviews.
