Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
Doesn't that also confirm that Batman is no threat to take the #1 spot worldwide?

Batman is not a threat. To me beyond MCU movies biggest movies of the year would be Avatar 2(Duh) and Jurassic World Dominion.

Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
The Batman feels relatively "small scale" to me. More of a starting point for the franchise again. Lay the foundation, then build from there. Personally expecting lower than expected numbers (maybe like $125m/$275m), and assuming it's a hit with audiences, will hopefully lead to a boost for future films.
The opposite is true for Doctor Strange 2, where it's firing on all cylinders from the start. I would be surprised if it does under $175m/$400m.

Domestically anything is possible if WOM is through the roof as early reactions are showing. But Batman's international popularity is not off the charts. At height of Nolan trilogy it did great in some markets to propel over 1B. MCU movies tend to break out almost everywhere except few european markets. Avatar is the big kahuna while everyone loves the dinos. So I cannot see Batman break into Top 3 or even Top 5 WW. That said I am getting more and more excited for its domestic run based on early reactions which have been off the charts strong.

If it's good, The Batman will have legs. Opening I see previews and OD being huge but front loaded for the weekend.

Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
Multiple folks who have seen it have said its not just good but simplly fantastic. Watch the hype hit a crescendo by last day of Feb and early fan shows will build the hype even more. I am expecting tremendous walkups as well. So its OW will be higher than what it will look that Monday. I am thinking 175m for now.

Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
The Batman is going to need a ton of positive buzz before it opens and tons of positive WOM after it opens. Anything less than perfect or near-perfect is going to be deemed a disappointment and very likely underperform after all the film franchise has gone though.
But, if absolutely everything goes right, it should have the higher ceiling, but as mentioned, the floor is also a lot lower.
Doctor Strange 2 already has more than enough goodwill from the MCU franchise including coming off of a super-hyped Spider Man 3 and WandaVision on Disney, so it's pretty much guaranteed a big result at the box office regardless of reception, and is therefore probably the favorite just based on that or at least the safe bet. It's range is more limited, but that range is pretty dang high.

I am including that as well.

Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
DS2's runtime is 2 hours 6 minutes. Seems short and apparantly a lot of this film was reshot so hopefully final product is fine. Tickets on sale Wednesday.

Batman 370/760. Easy victory for Strange on both fronts, perhaps a margin of 100M DOM and like 400 WW (assuming no china).

Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
yes. Easy win for Dr Strange. Batman is too dark for many international markets. This will be huge for sure.

Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
I'm trying but it won't even let me buy tickets. First Dr Strange broke the multiverse, now hes broken the AMC app. Good job, bro. Couldn't see this in one of the 14 million futures???

Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
I was also trying to re-up my AMC A-List for the month since there are like six movies I want to see in the next 30 days, but I guess I'll have to use Dango if I want a good seat on opening night. AMC should have spent that Nicole Kidman money on better IT people.

Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
AMC site is not good. Your best bet is to go to local multiplex to book the ticket if you want open day Imax or Dolby.

Re: Doctor Strange 2 vs The Batman
Finally got through on their app. Didn't bother with A-list even though Strange was about the same price with the new premium movie fee lol. All the same seats from before were available and I didn't wanna take a chance on the app breaking again. Worth it to see this movie with an opening night crowd.
