Most likely a huge boost in matinee viewings yesterday, otherwise I do find it kind of weird that it increased this much :???:

The family films seemed to have the weakest holds, which isn't so bad for Sahara since it is partially attracting a family audience.

Hidalgo dropped 0.7% on its first Tuesday. They both had a near identical weekend and audience type. I see Sahara increasing 180% on Friday for around a 42-45% 2nd weekend drop.

That kinda drop will just mean it will have 30-35% drops on the rest of its run and have very nice legs. It's 2nd weekend drop will be the highest drop of its wide run.

Haha, well I do actually agree that this will be it's biggest drop in wide release, but I'm not convinced it'll drop over 40% yet. Hidalgo had a 37% decline, and that was with two new releases, neither of which were rated R like Amityville (which might actually help Sahara which will probably be the #1 choice to buy tickets for). I think that a better comparison might be Hidalgo's third weekend though, as the opener that weekend was Dawn of the Dead (well, and Taking Lives/Eternal Sunshine). All were rated R, two were horror/thrillers, and Hidalgo had less then a 30% drop.

Nice little increase for Fever Pitch, and no decrease for Sin City. This is undoubtedly a W00t moment. w00t!

Good hold for Sin City. I think it's well on its way to break $80 million in terms of total gross while Beauty Shop looks to settle for just under $40 million.

Nice to see Fever Pitch going up a bit. I still stand by the fact most adults in this world actually do go for light dates in the middle of the week, and this is the perfect movie for that.

I think Sahara will do well for the same reason, because its still alight action movie.

I just don't see stuff like M$B or Sin City getting big weekday numbers because people have already been working 8 or 9 hours and just prefer a bit more simple fair.

But hey, Sin City is holding up remarkably well considering, that I feel its a weekend movie. Maybe kids do have something to do with it?

To put it frankly, you don't understand you this stuff works. When school is in session, more adult-oriented movies do better than movies with younger audiences on weekdays. When school is out of session the reverse is true.

Just found out from Lee's Movie Info that Kung-Fu Hustle made an estimated $250,000 ($3,571 PTA) on Monday and $270,000 ($3,857 PTA, +8%) on Tuesday.
