I'm not sure people understood how phenomenally popular the book Holes really is, which is why its $67M total surprised many. Because of Winn-Dixie, from what I can see, isn't even close to being as popular. That said, this movie will find an audience on video if it doesn't perform well in theatres. Movies like The Sandlot, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden all had middling box office grosses but are still favorites of children today.
hmm guess its just a southern thing then, since we have had our times posted Ive had at least 10 calls from 4th grade teachers who want to book group showings for thier class and parents cause they are all reading the book...
glad you said something tho or I would have inflated my prediction....good ol south always having to be different
and no i wasnt being sarcastic, I was basing it all on the numerous phone calls Ive got.....

Because of Winn-Dixie = My Dog Skip
It had a $5.9 opening. Because of Winn-Dixie has direct competition from younger kid movie, Pooh's Heffalump Movie, and other kid movies Are We There Yet and Son of the Mask.

The Sandlot, A Little Princess and The Secret Garden also didn't open in almost 3200 theatres. Winn-Dixie doesn't have to make very much per theatre to make $10 million for the weekend and if it is a Southern thing, theatres down there could be heavily skewed pushing the average up. (Heck, even Racing Stripes which looked horrible averaged almost $4000 per theatre) Unlike Son of the Mask, there's absolutely no cross-audience between Constantine and Winn-Dixie either. I agree with those who think Winn-Dixie may surprise...the plain and simple truth is that you don't get that many theatres if there isn't demand/interest.

Worst case scenario for Winn Dixie this weekend is a $9,500,000 3 day.
Which isn't bad at all.
Winn Dixie should finish with a surprising $30,000,000-$33,000,000.

I'm using Tigger as the comparison. It was released the weekend before President's Day also and had almost the exact weekday drops so far (with Valentine also falls on Monday), and using its multiplier based on Wednesday's number, I got 6.4M and went a little conservative with 6.0M, but this is the movie I'm trying to nail on and be the break-or-make for me.

hmm interesting I like that idea, I used Tigger to try to come up with Pooh last week based on PTA and it screwed me....guess i was so upset I forgot all about looking back at Tigger again for this week.
speaking of make me or break me..i hope to god I get lucky as hell on my mask prediction.... I dont know what I was thinking honestly, i was so sleepy when I made my predictions I really cant tell you how I came up with my 12m+ ](*,)

Look like only Brandon agrees with me on Pooh, although we disagree on a lot of other movies. This should be an interesting weekend.

I can certainly see the logic behind your prediction. I went with 5.1m though because I'm expecting the new competition to have an effect.
