The release date has moved from May 6 to Apr 29.
How will this affect it's box office take?

It'll have a bigger opening, but that's not saying much, since it won't open over $30 million. It has the potential to be a breakout hit, but I wouldn't count on it. It's being overpredicted for the most part. I'll wait for the trailer before giving my predictions.

I guess this will help Kingdom and House of Wax a bit, but not by much.

The book has a huge fan base though. I'm trying to figure out if the move is a show of confidence by the studio or not.

Lemony Snicket's had a huge fanbase too, and failed to reach the $150+ million predictions. During Christmas.
This won't do it in the summer.

I dont think that many people were expecting the movie to open to big numbers or have a huge gross. Besides Im not surprised at the budget its getting since its financed by Disney. Have we already forgotten about the huge budgets for King Arthur,The Alamo and Around the World in 80 Days. Those movies werent even the tentpole movies, neither is Hitch Hiker's Guide. One thing Im sure is the movie will get rave reviews since the director was recommended by critic darling director Charlie Kaufman. Im thinking the movie will make somewhere around 50-70 million dollars total

Isn't Snickets a relatively newer book? Hitchhiker has been around for 25-30 years. I don't think that's a good comparison.

Anyway...I'm adding this title to my Spring Game and I'm wondering what people think it will open at.

no its more like it will help itself by moving early, cause honestly Hitchhiker would have got hurt by theses not other way around...imo

I just read the book again last weekend... I hope Hitchhiker's is first of all good, because regardless of the box office, they can't take away quality. And I really like what I see, so I am very happy with the trailer.
I don't think this will make any more than $80 million, although I think this will be an easier sell abroad than in the US.
Hitchhiker's Guide and Lemony Snicket are in different leagues. Lemony Snicket's trailer didn't cause cease and desists, and Aint It Cool News to collapse.
It really just depends on how much of the geek audience is mobilized enough to go see this.
This news helps Kingdom of Heaven slightly, but KoH was always going to take the May 6th weekend anyway.
