Post The TaYlor 50 (5-1)
Because she deserves it. And because I've gone through the entire discography the last few days anyways so why not? This list will focus on only the recent post-Lover re-listen, so maybe things will change a little bit from previous lists. It ain't gonna be the breaking of Pangea but things might get shifted.

I know what you're thinking, does Taylor Swift really have 50 songs worth ranking? Well just putting my favorites on a playlist as I listened gave me 57 … before I even added in the new stuff. So yes, not only are there 50 worth ranking but I will have to cut a few really good ones.

This is also replacing the Decaders list. That was proving difficult to compile plus the decade isn't over yet so it can be bumped to the end of the year plus I've only wanted to listen to Taylor this week anyways.

Starts tomorrow with 50-45! Let us then continue celebrating the goddess of pop throughout the week.

OK final cut is done. A few tough omissions at the end but such is the life of a list maker.

50. IDWLF is the very last one to make the cut. While I’ve always thought Taylor was gorgeous (#51), it took 50 Shades of Grey to bring out this pure sex heroin side of her for the first and only time. I’ve never seen the movie, or liked any other Zayn Malick song, but I’d like to thank them both for this.

49. Getaway Car is a great example of how songs rankings can change from listen to listen. I had initially had it as one of the worst songs on Reputation, but now I couldn’t leave it off the top 50. Seeing her perform it live as one of the encores is what turned me around, it was probably her best performance in the entire set, a huge upset considering how many songs I had initially liked more. Anyways, like all of her best written songs, this one is packed full of lyrical imagery as she paints the Taylor Swift version of Bonnie and Clyde.

48. New songs are hard to rank amongst the classics, but a few obviously stood out enough. London Boy is all about the idea that any place can feel like home if you have someone you love waiting for you there. So while she isn’t leaving her all-american girl roots behind, exploring and rooting herself in English culture is pushing her life and career forward. Embracing her past, present and future (for the first time ever) is why the new album works so damn well.

47. SSS, like a lot of songs on Red, has Taylor very conflicted on her current love (this was the Harry Styles era, though I’m sure there were others who made it onto this album.) She lists all the reasons they should break up, but then turns it into a bubbly pop song about not breaking up.

46. AYHTDWS is such a typical Max Martin jam that probably could have gone to anyone that I almost didn’t include it. However, Taylor does make it her own, and it becomes almost a sequel to Stay Stay Stay. While Taylor eventually made the decision that she was willing to put up with her boyfriend’s nonsense if it meant keeping the love in tact, here the boyfriend does the opposite and leaves, but immediately regrets it. Who wouldn’t?

45-40 will come later today! … Probably!

45. The opening track on Reputation was meant to show how aggressive the new snake-stomping Taylor was, and quite frankly it was a little much at first. As seen in the video, she is disassembling herself and rebuilding to go to war with Kanye West. However, the reassembled Taylor isn’t all too different from the old one, and this song fits in really well in that context. That infectious hook becomes the staple of the song instead of the BOOM BOOM BOOM opening and ‘let the games begin’ challenge.

44. Treacherous, along with its companion I Knew You Were Trouble (another close call), is a self-aware Taylor that we hadn’t seen too much up to this point. She knows what she is getting into and likes that it is dangerous, even if it means she is likely to get hurt.

43. The title track for Taylor’s best album was likely written shortly after she saw The Graduate for the first time. You can see how that last scene would appeal to her, though I’m not sure she fully grasped the very ending to that movie just yet. But once again, Taylor is incredible at inserting herself into her favorite stories.

42. Another ballad from Red, which is definitely the best of her albums if these are your favorite types of songs. I Almost Do is all about self-restraint in the face of temptation, in this case by only remembering the good parts of a relationship. You can imagine her using this song as inspiration and then writing the much more boppy ‘We Are Never...’ in response.

41. King of my Heart is the Reputation sound at its best, there’s a lot of production (a lot) but it never gets in the way of the intimacy. It was a precursor to Balanced Taylor that we know and love now. It was also another one that was much improved by the live experience. It didn’t even need any snakes!

And that is the first ten! Hopefully you've heard some favorites, but not too many as there are still 40 to go!

I'm hoping you're like me and you still get nostalgic for Tim McGraw and that it makes the Top 25.

I had Tim McGraw on the playlist, but most of the first album just got shoved down the ranks as more were added.

Matter of fact...
