Post Who likes Radiohead?
I've never understood why they are so "great". To me, they always seemed like one of those bands that you are supposed to like "just because", but I just listened to their tracks and they're really nothing special at all. I feel there are lots of bands like this. These types of band I just never got into, and they continue to make music and people continue to be overly impressed by them and speak about them with such praise. They make middle-of-the-road, commercial/soft rock, and I'm apparently supposed to be impressed. Other bands that fit this bill are R.E.M, U2, Stereophonics, and to a lesser degree; Keane and Snow Patrol.

Having said that, "Reckoner" is a pretty great track.

I also didn't realise they did "Vanilla Sky" from Vanilla Sky, which is a good track. But apart from those two, my thoughts remain.

I liked that Vanilla Sky song (Everything in It's Right Place), and these two songs:

But I have tried to like their OK Computer album, with no luck.

I love them. My second favorite band after Oasis. It is hard to quantify musical fandom, but I would cite the...majesty of their sound (U2-esque, but with a robotic, nervous undercurrent) and Thom Yorke's distinctive voice. They are also masters at creating an "era" for every album, from the art to the changes in sound to even the release method.

I also became a fan at the perfect age of 13/14, so my conception of them is deeply intertwined with nostalgia.

Algren, have you heard these songs by them?

"Idioteque"
"The National Anthem"
"Dollars & Cents"
"Bodysnatchers"

Those are a few I suspect you would enjoy. There is also Atoms for Peace, Yorke's side project with Flea from RHCP.

Nope. I shall listen to them. Thanks. And I wasn't aware of Atoms for Peace.

Not bad. Still very samey (dreamy and low-key) to their other stuff. Not convinced.

Better! I could trance out to this if it was a 15-minute track.

David wrote:

Dreamy just like all their others. I mean, I could like this sort of stuff, but there's nothing really that differentiates any of their songs. Plus I like a bit of get-up-and-go, and Radiohead don't do that.

Yeah, no. It's just noise.

You are just destined to be a casual Radiohead listener. ;)

This is Atoms for Peace:

Not bad. Not really seeing the influence of Flea, but sure Yorke is there.

Love Burn the Witch. It feels very old school Radiohead from the late 90s/early 00s, but still sounds completely different.

How's the album? I've only listened to King of Limbs a few times and it never stays with me. So for me, I haven't heard a good Radiohead album since 2007's In Rainbows (excellent). Hope this changes with the new one.

I am very impressed so far. Definitely stronger than The King of Limbs. It reminds me a lot of Amnesiac, a great album which has nevertheless become a bit of a lost child in the Radiohead oeuvre (compared to The Bends or OK Computer or In Rainbows).

A lot of the songs are real textured earphone candy, particularly "The Numbers." A super-belated studio version of "True Love Waits" is a poignant surprise. "Glass Eyes" is a gorgeous bit of intimate pastoral melancholia in the vein of "Sail to the Moon" or "Faust Arp." And the opening combo of "Burn the Witch" and "Daydreaming" is a mega one-two punch of horror-movie political anxiety and wistful beauty. No Radiohead song is going to significantly dent radio in 2016, but "Identikit" should be the next single.

I think it's fantastic and at the top of their game. After the first few listens, the songs sunk under my skin and became a whole new experience

I think 7 or 8 songs have been already performed on their tours or teased in some form. It's like a recollection of everything they've done so far and some new things. I really like the album after two listens. Feels very intimate.

The new album is so beautiful. It's definitely reminiscent of Radiohead from the early 00s. "Daydreaming" is my favorite so far; a beautiful, haunting track that I've listened to several times already. Also digging "Burn the Witch" a lot. I've listened all the way through once. I'm not sure yet where I would place it overall. It's above average Radiohead and shows a lot of hard work, whereas The King of Limbs, to my recollection, felt like Radiohead on cruise control.

I feel like The King of Limbs is a soundtrack to a lost movie (or the one that never got made). I find it really good as a late night listen.
