Fun fact: If I told you at its peak this forum had 320 posts and 11.6 threads made a day, that would make sense right? Actually, that's still the lifetime per day average.

The threads are hard to wrap my head around if it was like 25-30 a day or something at the height.

I was half expecting Dr Lecter's average to still be 30 per day or something, but it's only 12.

I think the entire "energy" and vibes of the internet has changed since 15 years ago or even 10 years ago, it's not just that this forum has less users or the ones here got older and distracted by real life as expected, it's as much that this forum didn't get any new users because the internet has changed. In my opinion the whole social media sphere has become more repressive, guarded and people acting collectivist to be safe because of the insane amount of political messages, emotional pressure, etc. people are bombarded with. Even if you manage to avoid becoming one of the 100/100 emotional intensity people, it's easy to lose confidence communicating with or challenging people who are. One of my favorite analogies I've heard is the mom who's daughter is an animal activist, so she cooks vegan for the whole family to avoid drama. Hence the extremists while small in number can have a big impact on everyone because they're walking on egg shells or want to keep their friendships with them.

I became an "anti woke rant" person in part because I could feel this shift away from the individualism and unique personalities of 2000s internet I loved so much towards a more collectivist environment where your identity is based on labels tons of other people share like race, gender, political party, etc. On the whole I just don't think the over sensitivity is worth it especially considering it's like the internet has gotten less offensive, it's led to so much push back that it's actually led to more emboldened racism/anti-trans/etc. Even for non political subjects I can feel the ramped up collectivism in a way that rubs me the wrong way, I read the television subreddit and in my opinion everyone there is filtering their taste through what the critics views are or what they're supposed to like or are buying into some collectivist taste thing, one of my favorite things to do online is read people's genuine emotional reaction to art and I think that's not quite it.

In other words - social media discourse is a poor replacement for the forum/community discourse we once had in places like this. And I agree.
