I read someone compare the vaxxports to smoking. Sure, you can smoke all you like, there's nothing illegal about hurting yourself. But you can no longer put other people in danger, aka smoking indoors, just to satisfy your addiction. Anti-vaxxers can do whatever they want with their own bodies, but they shouldn't be allowed to put the rest of us at risk too.

If the vaccine works so well then why are you in danger from the unvaccinated?

The vaccinated are not in danger from the unvaccinated, unless you consider a mild cold danger.

It seems like the Pfizer vaccine's effectiveness wanes with time. The majority of breakthrough cases are among those vaccinated in the winter. They found people vaccinated in the spring have a much lower chance of catching it.

Turns out that Lollapalooza was not a super spreader event after all, and at most there were only a few hundred cases that could be linked to it (out of the hundred thousand people or so that attended.) Yay for music festivals!!!

Quote:
Thirteen of those people came to Lollapalooza even though they were sick, attending on or after the day their symptoms began, despite the event urging folks to stay home if ill.

“We need everyone in Chicago not to ignore symptoms or assume it’s a summer cold regardless of your vaccination status because we know vaccines are not 100% protective. Unfortunately in this case these were folks who were largely vaccinated and therefore assumed they didn’t have COVID.”

There needs to be better messaging about this. 13 vaccinated people => at least 200 people outdoors. Who knows how many people they spread to indoors elsewhere?

And just because you’re currently healthy doesn’t mean you couldn’t be a potential vector of spread. Let’s say someone who is fully vaccinated and even got a negative Covid test before lollapalooza, that doesn’t mean you couldn’t have encountered Covid from someone on Day 1 and spread it to others while pre-symptomatic both same day and subsequent days and then not feel symptoms until a few days after initial exposure,

Nine Inch Nails cancelled all their 2021 shows. :tears: :tears: :tears:

Replaced by Slipknot at riotfest, who are cool, but the value isn’t the same. On their solo tours, NIN tickets were going for $300+ while you can get Slipknot for around $20.

I really don’t get this NiN thing. If they were going on a solo tour and cancelling was also preventing mass gatherings then that would be somewhat admirable. Yet almost all their shows were big festivals, which are already sold out and will continue on without them so… what is the point?

Not sure when FDA will grant emergency authorization for the 3rd shot for non-immunocompromised people, but it appears that with the FDA authorization of Pfizer, doctors now now have the authority to decide on giving the third shot themselves. That might be the route for the seniors who got their first shots more than half a year ago (and now mostly worn off) to be able to get a third one ASAP,

Another benefit to FDA authorization of Pfizer is hopefully there will now be less suppression against ivermectin (to not revoke emergency authorizations of vaccines.). We are in an opposite media situation in Us from last year, as the are not purposely underreporting deaths with Covid (instead blaming on preexisting conditions s) among vaccinated people (many of which had false negative test results even though they obviously have Delta symptoms). We would all be in much greater shape when more vaccinated Americans have higher awareness and better access to ivermectin, rather than being misled into thinking it’s only for use by the unvaccinated,

There being no medical exemptions for vaccine passports in many places (eg. NY, BC) is pretty gross. Making 2nd class citizens out of people who don't have a choice.

God damn the government for taking preventive measures against people who have higher risk of community trasmission.

Oregon is full of left wing hipsters who have done everything they're supposed to, high vaccination, etc. and their reward for it, outdoor mask mandates

Systemic ableism and systemic racism encouraged and legalized by government.

Would it be more fair to only mandate the unvaccinated to wear a mask?

My area is barely shy of previous all-time highs back in December, and it doesn't appear to be slowing down, especially in town limits. I believe the numbers in the county itself are at record levels. Have a friend who is thankfully on the mend now (hopefully) from the delta variant after being really sick for 2 full weeks, especially in the first five days where hospitalization was looking possible.

There is a major outbreak among elected officials and city employees now too, so significant that the town is essentially shut down as they're either sick or in quarantine as the city evaluates how far reaching the outbreak has become. City Hall, the DMV, police department, utility offices, etc. all closed to the public this week and are by appointment only if necessary. Local movie theater is also closing on Thursday. Schools are reinstating the mask mandates for all employees and students this week, but chances are high they'll close and go remote for a bit too as a number of classes have already been exposed. The local hospital is also really full and very short-staffed (based on what my mother said, they're only operating at 60% staffing). Besides this hospital, the nearest one is 40 miles away from the town.

Basically back to 2020 again for now, but with a major outbreak that's caused the closures rather than preventative measures beforehand to avoid an outbreak, and a much more strained hospital.

Justice has been reluctant in reissuing any statewide mandates, rather pushing for people to get vaccinated instead and wanting to leave mandates in the hands of local officials, but chances are good, I'd say, that he'll do it in the next week or two.

Vegas felt normal, but I suppose it helps that I don't mind wearing the masks. Though as long as you had a drink in your hand (which is always in Vegas since you can just walk around outside with them) the security left you alone. I did avoid the strip clubs though as I felt those would be delta central (and expensive since Vegas strippers are very aggressive - "Hi, nice to meet you cutey, wanna give me $500 for a few minutes in the back room?? No? fuck yo broke ass den.")

I felt more nervous working the stupid Jake Paul fight. Thousands of maskless people crammed into an indoor arena, and judging by the behavior of the crowd all night (fights breaking out in the stands every 15 minutes), I'm guessing that most of them were not vaccinated.

Bonnaroo just canceled the entire festival, but they say it is because of flooding not covid. Thank goodness. If a festival in Tennesee canceled out of delta concerns then everyone else would feel compelled to do the same.

I do feel really bad for everyone who had tickets for the show though. Hotels you can cancel, but good luck getting the money from your flights back. :(

You had to work the Jake Paul fight? Hope you got an appeqling incentive or bonus.

And just wow at Bonneroo. We know a guy who was going to Bonnaroo this weekend... Already payed for the hotel and everything. His luck is unbelievably bad. He's going to be so pissed or just really sad. Something else he was going to attend in July got canceled too just days beforehand. AND his hotel canceled on his wedding day the day before back in May... That was a mess. He used 2 years of vacation time for these events that he won't be able to get back (already tried for the earlier events) since they've all occurred the week of use...

Damn Ida moved into our area this evening, with the heaviest rainfall expected overnight and into tomorrow evening. Flooding has been a major problem in the past couple years, but especially so this year. There have been 3 so-called 100-year floods in the state already this year alone. And I'm sure several places will be hit hard tomorrow too and be "100-year flood events." (Time to change the 100-year flood title I do believe.)

At least WV is a relatively anti vaxx state, and that's not happening in more vaccinated states yet.
