Post Re: How worried about the Delta variant are you?
We started out great back in the spring, even leading the nation for a time with vaccinations by focusing on small pharmacy chains/local pharmacies, but once they became available for younger age groups, the vaccination rates saw a nose-dive and hit a brick wall in June or so. And to no surprise, cases began to rise again and really took off once the delta variant made its way here back in late-July or so I think.

Vaccinations have been increasing though, so I guess that's positive news, although certainly too late in many cases. If you're willing to get the vaccine amidst an outbreak, why not do so beforehand to help prevent said outbreak? Waiting for a problem to happen before deciding to take action against it is stupid in any situation.

And most of the state is rural (basically all of it, really), so the towns and communities are naturally being affected much more and can be crippled if an outbreak occurs within them. Can't just make a short drive to another post office, DMV, hospital, etc. if the only one around closes or goes by appointment only (thus backing up the process). Other locations are either at least 30/40 mins away, and/or are experiencing the same problems in addition to the extra traffic from other affected areas.

Since when is "prevention better than cure"?

There is no way to "prevent COVID" other than with the vaccine. Any other mitigation measure just delays potential infection until infringements are lifted again.

So Israel is literally #1 worldwide in cases per person right now. I don't really like the "pick out the country/state's who's current wave best suits your argument" take, but it doesn't seem great that the most vaccinated country can be having the most cases they ever had.

Could it be because Israel had relatively low cases at first and now the hammer is finally falling on them?

What it means is, the vaccine is probably not as great as advertised / we want it to be.

So?

The vaccine still reduces covid symptoms, anyone saying otherwise ignores reality. But it is also showing that the current vaccines, at least 1-2 shots of it, might not to be enough to get us out of this pandemic.

Singapore has already moved away from pandemic to endemic phase, with almost 80% population vaccinated and the number of cases rising again, its seen as a natural course because people have been stuffed in their houses for 1.5 years and they are trying to return to normalcy and most people will come in contact, one or other way, with a person that still has the virus (but not showing any symptoms). The good part is that with vaccination status being this high only a handful of people are quarantined at designated centres and/or serve stay-at-home for 14 days (mostly for precautions). There have been 0 deaths for vaccinated people though I am sure we will eventually have some deaths because that's just how life works.

Do the vaccinated even spread it less? The attempts to control transmission seem to have failed from the start with a virus that spreads like this, there may even be animal carriers. Not to mention even if the attempts to slow transmission was working, is it stopping people from getting it or just delaying it? The vaccines are good if it helps people become less sick if they get it, but upending society to chase after the dream of controlling transmission like it's a disease like smallpox you can bring to 0 cases seems like a fool's errand and not worth creating 2 tier society over and turning people against each other. If they admit the vaccines aren't making a big impact on transmission then the only people the unvaccinated are hurting are themselves.

Shortsightedly yes, but more sick people just put a drain on the healthcare system and the economy too, affecting society as a whole.

This explains why delta spread from the vaccinated (even in those whose antibodies haven't yet worn off) is so high;
https://www.tampabay.com/opinion/2021/0 ... id-column/

Quote:
The viral loads in the throats of vaccinated persons who become infected with delta rises at identical rates as in unvaccinated persons, but only for the first few days. After five days or so, the viral loads in the vaccinated person start to quickly drop whereas those in the unvaccinated person persist. This key set of observations is important for several reasons relating to vaccinated persons serving as vectors for spread (see below)
...
While we now understand that the virus fades from the back of the throat pretty quickly in a vaccinated person, we also know that an infected, vaccinated person can transmit this very infectious virus to others for at least a couple of days. So, as before, you are being asked to wear a mask to primarily protect others.

Unvaccinated people with delta are much more likely to exhibit strong symptoms so they and others can more easily tell to stay away. Whereas a vaccinated person with delta can transmit to others just as easily without exhibiting symptoms. Asymptomatic spread was much less common last year prior to vaccines.

If I were a senior citizen who hasn't yet gotten 3rd booster shot, I would be much more afraid of being around a vaccinated person (at least one whose antibodies haven't yet worn off), than an unvaccinated person. Vaccinated can be considered as more "selfish" in the sense that their vaccines only protect their own health while being more secretly dangerous to others.

This is truly an "only in America" crisis. Maybe they can send some of these people to the nearest veterinarian clinics to free up space for the gunshot victims. The fact that "gunshot victims" is even a category a hospital has to apparently account for on a regular basis is nuts. Unsurprisingly, Texas is having similar issues, too. Reportedly, some gunshot victims have had to wait 6-10 days (while racking up those hospital stay bills!) to receive surgery due to the hospitals being backed up with people poisoning themselves or general COVID overload.

Anyone working in a hospital since 2020 deserve so much for their time and patience.

Good to hear. Hospitals are dealing with enough as is, let alone any additional issues springing caused by ridiculous circumstances.

Funny how after a year of Twitter either removing posts that were proven wrong or placing a label underneath it calling misinformation, they can't seem to do the same with a post like that Rolling Stone story

Italy first country to force all workers public or private to get the vaccine. I guess it's only a matter of time before governments just start holding people down and putting vaccines in their arms.

With the Pfizer booster shots now approved for 65+, please have your parents or other seniors planning to get the booster shot get tested for Covid a couple days prior. Especially since there is a lot more asymptomatic cases now than before. If their viral load is high enough to test positive, they are much more likely to have adverse reaction/their asymptomatic Covid becomes really bad if they add on booster shot spike proteins on top of it.

Similar to the concept that you’re not supposed to get flu shot if you’re sick currently, and a lot of people who suddenly become really sick right after flu shot not knowing they were already carrying the flu virus asymptomatically.

There are way more asymptomatic carriers of Covid now than when vaccines first became available, so we could have an even greater spike in Covid deaths in coming months than than back when vaccines were first rolled out.

Stay off the internet kiddo. This is wrong on so many levels.

There is obviously enough concern from FDA so they didn’t approve for under-65. All their official guidance have been if you have active Covid, to delay getting vaccine until after infectious period. It was much easier to tell earlier this year, but now there are so many vaccinated who are asymptotic carriers with viral load, it’s much harder to tell than before.

A Covid test beforehand to is a very easy way to mitigate the risk. You know during Vaccine trials the subjects got tested all the time which eliminates this risk, Plus you don’t want them to assume any symptoms after the shot is purely due to the shot and ignore it, if the symptoms are actually Covid as well, and they are highest vulnerability untill the booster takes effect two weeks later,

I still think it's weird that covid deaths in most places have doubled from a year ago. April to September 2021 is easily worse numbers than April to September 2020 despite 2 billion people worldwide being vaccinated.

Seems like the results should be better when you vaccinated most of the old people and left the young healthy ones.

The explanations for people who don't question vaccines, seems to be some combination of

- Bad luck that the covid mutated and became much worse this year - therefore "pandemic of the unvaccinated" spreads and kills at much higher rate per person than a year ago, enough to overcome safe vaccinated portion of the population

- People's social confidence in less locked down 2021 spreads it more than the vaccine stops it

https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracke ... ailydeaths
Expand “Daily Table for Daiky Death Trends - United States” to see the daily numbers.

Yesterday there were 2087 new deaths, the highest since February. Same day last year 9-17-2020 there were 698 new deaths, almost 1/3 the number of deaths, Most people don’t realize how bad Covid deaths have gotten recently since the media stopped reporting daily death counts after Biden took the presidency.

American vaccines—by fighting Covid to block it from traveling down the throat into the body—result in Covid going up the nose instead and sneezing the virus at others at up to 100k droplets per sneeze vs 3k droplets per cough at half the speed from sneezing. This is why there is such a spike in spread whenever there is a spike in vaccines.

It may be acceptable to some how vaccines selfishly protect the individual, while also causing much more harmful Covid spread to victims nearby, as long as their victims were just the unvaccinated. Butunfortunately a lot of vaccinated seniors have also been dying recently after their vaccines have mostly wore off.

For the issue of someone taking a vaccine shot while not knowing they have COVID-19 and then dying within 14 days of the shot. Anti-vax groups will consider them all to be vaccine deaths, which ignores the harm caused by Covid besides the shot. But hospitals and media count them as unvaccinated Covid deaths only, because they died before the vaccine is in full effect.

But if the body is too inflamed from the vaccine fighting the mRNA Covid vaccine-induced spike proteins, and thus letting the active Covid slip by them into the body, then to me both Covid and vaccines have major responsibility in contributing to the deaths. Therefore testing for Covid prior to the shot (including boosters) really helps to reduce this risk to be closer to the outcome of vaccine trials, versus the big spike in Covid deaths in countries where majority don’t get tested prior to the shot.

It isn't that hard to believe.

Delta is not wild Covid. Delta was not everywhere last summer. You have many more crowds and gathering than 12 months ago.

Basic explanation is a lot of people are both 1) wanting to Covid lifestyle to go away while not participating in the solution (vaccine), and 2) making same assumptions about Delta that they made about wild Covid, which are mostly wrong.

It is a bad combination. Its death by stupidity.

The mask messaging makes no sense, there's basically a class system where at events like the Met Gala or Emmys the celebs don't have to wear them but the servants holding their robes do, then the one group that doesn't have to worry about covid (kids) are forced to in schools.

Well I definitely got some Fest Flu, but my covid tests were negative. And I was in the pit for pretty much every band I liked, including Devo. Vaccine mandates work! Now I’m sad all my vacations are over and its back to normal boring quarantine life.
