Quint wrote: One quick question about Galaxy: are there still those "collect 100 coin" star challenges? I've grown to despise them, largely due to a bad experience trying to get the 100-coin star in the Tick Tock Clock level in SM64. No. In place of them, well, a new addition I should say. Is that there are comets that come by the galaxies that alter the levels, and allows you to get the hidden star(s) there. Some comets give you a time limit. Some keep you at 1HP. Some make your enemies do more damage, etc. Coins are too important in Galaxy. The Star Bits are much more important, and they are how you get 1UP's. They also serve as weapons. And currency. Coins are just to refill your life meter now.

 Re: Last game you played?
The star bits are also used to feed Lumas that will take you to another planet where you can get a single star. The amount of bits you have to feed them grows, I think the first two are 400, then the next is 600...So I think that's the thing most like 100 coins = star.

That's good to know. Those challenges were probably my least favorite part of SM64.

Crash of the Titans - B
I love platformers and I haven't played a good one in a while since I've gotten my 360. It's good not great. Can't really think of anything else to say about the game.
Timeshit..... i mean Timeshift - D
Slightly better than Jericho but that aint saying much. Time powers(stop, slow, reverse time) are cool the first couple times you use them or if you have never played Prince of Persia before. The "puzzles" in the game are ridiculous easy because the game will tell you that something is about to happen and then prompts you to press LB which triggers your time powers. What sucks is that you never have to figure out which one to use as the game automatically uses the right one. Another thing.... this game SOOOOOOO wants to be Half Life 2. From the opening sequence to the car levels to even some of the weapons, it strives to be like that game. Except that it fails in everything that it does.

 Re: Last game you played?
Super Mario Galaxy4 Grand Stars, 40 Stars, and 7 Hours in.
First, I have to talk about how awesome the first Bowser battle was. It wasn't a cake walk like the first Bowser battle in Super Mario 64. This was on par with the final Bowser battle in Super Mario 64. Took me a few minutes to figure out what to do after he smashes the glass and burns? his tail. And it's quite hilarious despite Nintendo abandoning the Funny Bowser in...well, I think every Mario game since maybe Super Mario 64. And I'll go ahead and talk about the other boss battles. The boss battles are more difficult than any boss in Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Sunshine, and this is such a major plus for me. I hate bosses where I am never in danger of dying. I enjoy dying even. The Spider and the Stone/Ghost Boss are very good. They stick out the most, outside of the first Bowser fight. And the last Baby Bowser (the 4th Grand Star) battle on the Airships was very good. Many, many explostions going on.
The level design is so...impossible. Even for a Mario title. It's so difficult to explain since it's so new, and unbelievable.
Still, no complaints, period. I am currently going to the fourth dome. I would probably have started it already, but I am taking my time to get every star. You have to wait in some galaxies though. Can't just get some of the hidden ones since they require a comet to be passing by to acquire it. Not a pain, and it makes getting that star more interesting depending on what the comet is.
Oh yeah, the Boo Suit is the best suit ever.

Purchased SMG at Gamestop because Assasins Creed wasnt out yet. I only put in an hr into the game and probably wont give it a grade till Im done with game. It wont be anytime soon because of AC,ME, and Rockband.
Anyhow first impressions. Graphics are alright which pretty much look like Viva Pinata graphics except less detailed. I was still trying to get used to the controls and pretty much the game was just nostalgic even the sound effects pays tribute to the N64. I think I only got 2 of the big stars is when I quit. Squee.... You seem to be suggesting that it's impossible to have good voice acting with a Mario game. As if Nintendo can not possibly create that. I find that truly hard to believe.

If you get non annoying voice acting, it is still completely out of place and would feel really awkward. If you get voice acting that fits a fat plumber, a princess who bakes cakes all the time, a midget mushroom, and a large turtle dragon thing, it's still annoying as fucking hell. Give me text with my mario games. For the love of God, PLEASE stick to text with Mario.

Like Tony said, how hard is it to get a decent voice actor even if you considered the last voice acting to be crap. Besides you probably took the voice acting way too serious when Nintendo games are never ever serious. Not a bad game so far but too bubblegum and cutesy. I mean at least Viva Pinata actually has the player KILLING his own pets and turning them into candy, Ratchet & Clank stomping tadpoles on the ground so why didnt SMG let me cook the bunnies I caught in the first level? I havent played a game this environment friendly since Sneak King. The only thing I vanquish in the game are living mushrooms and they arent really considered sentient lives

 Re: Last game you played?
Voice-Overs in any Mario game or Zelda game would ruin them. No matter how good the voice acting is.
Super Mario Galaxy:
4 Grand Stars, 55 Stars, and 9 Hours in.
The Galaxies in the 4th Dome Room are the best yet. There is a Fire and Ice Galaxy, probably my second favorite after the Haunted Mansion Galaxy. This Galaxy also feels alot like a Zelda game. Lighting torches and such to unlock doors. You also get the Fire/Ice Flowers here. The Fire Flower lets you throw fireballs, just like in NES days. And the Ice Flower allows you to walk on water, and freeze things. I like it.
There is also this Desert Galaxy. I have only played through it once to get one star, but this makes the desert level in Super Mario 64 look...well, awful. Not in terms of graphics. But in terms of innovation, gameplay, and level design. The first star was one of the toughest ones to get so far in the game. But when you fall, it's just so much fun to use the cyclones to get yourself back up near the end of the first star part.
Oh, and when some of you get to this point in the game, you better make sure you have plenty of Star Bits. A Hungry Star eventually appears outside of Rosalina's bedroom, and the cost is 800 Star Bits for him to transform. I haven't had a problem with this at all though. I had over 1400 when he appeared. But I think it's mainly because I love collecting things. And when Im on a small planet, I make sure I get everything on it before moving onto the next. Speaking of getting everything. You better practice the fight against Bouldergeist (The Haunted Mansion Galaxy Boss, the Stone/Bomb Ghost thing). When the Cosmic Comet goes by there (That Star is the one you have to repeat for a new one), you have to beat him with 1HP. Which means you cannot get hit once. I died 4x trying to beat him, but I eventually did. And you can use your Star Bits to shoot the rocks he throws at you to help against getting hit. Just don't him the Black Ones since they are the Bomb Boos you need to hit him. Advice given for the day.
It's pretty funny. When you think you would begin repeating things you did in past Galaxies in the newer ones, you are always shocked. Well, surprised I should say. Every single galaxy has it's own unique touch, and way to play. No repeating anything. Love that.

 Re: Last game you played?
Assasin's Creed. Only around 3 hrs into it but Im loving the controls and the gameplay so far very much. Still hard for me to decide what I would end up liking more between Bioshock and this. As of this moment, I think it will make it in my top 5 of favorite X360 games that includes Bioshock, Dead Rising, Oblivion, and Saints Row. More about the gameplay is that the stealthing sort of reminds me of a blend between Oblivion's assasin missions and Splinter Cell games. The environment itself is very open ended and there are alot of civilians in the game which makes the atmosphere so much cooler. The fun parts include me trying to evade guards chasing after me by jumping from building to building and then riding off on a horse or jumping through a haystack. The manuevering can sometimes be tricky and I do sometimes mess up.
Solid A so far

It may a long time since that's 40 Levels compared to the 15 of Super Mario 64. Although, the first one I did on the very first planet you start out on in the game wasn't hard, and only took...I dont know, 10 mins perhaps. But I expect some Galaxies to be super easy, and others to be a very challenging. But it's going to be worth it since it actually rewards you (with something good, not 100 1UP's which are...useless after you get 120 in Mario 64) when you get all the stars.

 Re: Last game you played?
Assassain's Creed - B+
Just finished the game and quite enjoyed it. Looks like Assassain's Creed is going to have a sequel judging from the "ending." I've even read that Ubisoft plans on this being a trilogy. I knew about the "twist" before I played the game but I won't mention it again here except that the "twist" happens pretty much the moment you turn the game on. Anyways, the game looks AMAZING!!!! It has some of the best graphics around. My only real complaint that kept AC from getting an A was the diversity of the missions.... there was no diversity. By the end all the missions started to become repetative but not to the point where I didn't want to play anymore. Before you can assassainte you main target, you have to do research. Reasearch includes pickpocketing, eavesdroping, interrogation, and doing things for Informers. Be prepared because once you do this for the very first guy, it never changes for the rest. Rinse and repeat. Side missons include saving citizens and scaling buildings to get to View points. Once again, these never change. The actual main assassinations are pretty cool. Combat kinda sucks in the begining, but gets alot better after you get some upgrades. The platforming in this game is awesome. Climbing tall buildings and escaping from enemies have never been easier. If i had to compare this game to another, it would definetly be Crackdown.

Still havent made it to the final galaxies, though I have unlocked them. The Toy Room (not sure the actual name) has the best music, ever. And it's also where you find the Spring Suit. Which surprisingly works much different from what I was expecting. I was thinking you'd just bounce and jump. But you CANNOT stop in this suit, and your entire body is like a spring. You can walk kick, which I guess youd call wall springing? in the suit, which is really neat. Not my favorite suit. That still goes to the Boo Suit. Even though I really like the Bee Suit now. I think you use it the most, or at least have the option to use it the most, so that's probably why. I unlocked the final few galaxies, and I think the Fire Suit will be available once again thankfully on in one of the galaxies. Quite positive of it really. It's only been available in one or two galaxies so far.
I also unlocked the Flying suit. Red Star's appear that give you your flying suit. It's a black and red suit, and last longer than the Ice or Fire Suit. Probably twice as long. It's fun.
And I couldnt help myself. I was going to get all 120 Stars before going to fight Bowser for the last time, but I just HAD to see what his final stage and battle were like. His final stage is very tough. It took me several attempts to reach the end of it. It's a mix of almost everything you'd encountered. Not EVERYTHING, since there is just too much in Galaxy to do that, but there's a solid amount. The final part of the stage is quite insane. And the final battle is nice. 3x as long as the last times you face Bowser, and a little harder since he uses new attacks and you face him on more than one area. And the cutscenes after the battle are even more beautiful than the beginning of the game. Wont spoil anything though. But it has the best ending of any Mario game by far. Like, an ACTUAL ending.
I've played through every galaxy, save for the final few and the trial galaxies since I still havent found the last Green Star (I wonder where that damn thing is...), and have beaten the story to pretty much say it manages to overshadow Super Mario 64 in everyway. The only thing that Super Mario 64 did better didnt have anything to do with it's gameplay, fun factor, etc. Just when you first started out on the Castle Grounds. The Free Roaming 3D envionment that defined gaming. But Galaxy has better gameplay. It's more fun. It is somehow have even more variety. 40 Levels compared to the 15 in Super Mario 64. And every single one of them is different, with no reoccuring themes when it comes to star collecting or gameplay. Easily better boss battles. Better sound. Better....everything. Seems impossible to say Super Mario 64 doesnt compare, but it just doesnt. I don't think many could have had higher expectations than mine, and it managed to exceed them. The only games that I may like better than Super Mario Galaxy are The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Tales of Symphonia. But Super Mario Galaxy is just... well, more.
