Ladies and gentlemen... welcome to the NHL Pick'Em 1st annual regular season awards show! This is your host, Shack!

First, the results from the 23rd and final week of the season:

Weekly Scores
PlayerWinsLosses
1. Rev114
2. MikeQ.105
3. trixster96
3. Shack96
5. Jmart00787
This table brought to you by Excel2BB Converter. Created by Krem for World of KJ

Next, some history! For 23 weeks, the gauntlet of the 1st annual NHL Pick'Em has been run.

We started with 7 players... yours truly, Jmart007, trixster, MikeQ, Rev, PresidentPalmer, and Leader of the Pack.

Unfortunately we immediately dropped a player when Leader of the Pack quit, before rising to 7 once more with the late addition of Levy. Then halfway through the season PresidentPalmer and Levy dropped out

That brought us down to the 5 who remained: Shack, Jmart007, trixster, MikeQ., Rev. Those 5 will compete once more in the playoffs. But first, the regular season results and awards!

Now finally, the award show! 5 awards will be handed out tonight: Total wins, total win %, total +/- differential, weekly wins, and weekly top 3 finishes.

First up, the Total Wins/Scores award!

In 3rd place with 205 wins to 165 losses...

Spoiler: show
Trixster! :3rd:

Trix: I would like to thank Ingmar Bergman for this award. Whenever I feel bad about the Oilers being terrible, I think hey, it could be worse, I could be a character in a Bergman film!

In 2nd place with 210 wins to 163 losses...

Spoiler: show
Shack! :2nd:

Oh my god! I'm so surprised and shocked at my placing! Thank you! Thank you!

Finally, in 1st with 222 Wins to 159 losses...

Spoiler: show
Jmart007! :1st:

Unfortunately, Jmart007 was taken immediately before this show to travel the 80s to fight the Man with the Golden Gun and has not returned. Accepting the award for JMart is Isla Fisher.

Isla: Hi, it's so glad to finally accept an award hee hee! Congratulations Jmart! I wish you were here! Now excuse me, I have to get back to being hot

Thanks Isla!

Next up, the Total Winning % award!

In third place with a score of 55.66%...

Spoiler: show
Levy :3rd:

Levy: What the... I thought I quit this game halfway through... is this a joke

In second place with a score of 56.30%...

Spoiler: show
Shack :2nd:

I was going to get Rachel Weisz to accept for me but she doesn't know what hockey is. She said she'd gladly be up for presenting the Polo Pick'em awards though

In first place with a score of 58.27%...

Spoiler: show
Jmart007! :1st:

Jmart hasn't returned yet, so please welcome back Isla Fisher!

Isla: I guess this Jmart is really good at predicting hockey. I would give him my number and ask him to hang out or eat dinner tonight, but he's not here... What a shame. I guess I'll go back to LA and Sacha...

Next up, the Weekly Wins award!

In 3rd place... IT'S A TIE!!! With 5 wins (incl. 3 ties), the award goes to...

Spoiler: show
Trixster and MikeQ!

Trixster: Hopefully this inspires Western Canada and Quebec to unite!

MikeQ: FML?

In 2nd place with 7 wins (incl. 3 ties)..

Spoiler: show
Shack! :2nd:

Can I win one of these damn things already? Always the bridesmaid... : (

Finally, in 1st place with 10 wins (incl. 5 ties)...

Spoiler: show
Jmart007! :1st:

Unfortunately Isla has left in her limo and cannot accept. On her way off the stage she tripped and her dress ripped full off. As she was wearing a neckless dress, shockingly she was wearing no bra. She was also wearing no underwear as David Lynch ate them before the show. What a shame Jmart isn't here to see this, it's really been a night for the ages.

The final award is Weekly Top 3 Finishes!

In 3rd place with 15...

Spoiler: show
Shack :3rd:

sigh, I guess that'll be my last chance

In 2nd place with 16...

Spoiler: show
Trixster! :2nd:

Trixster: David Lynch can eat my panties any day!

Finally, in 1st with an incredible 19 top 3s out of 23 weeks overall:

Spoiler: show
Jmart007! :1st:

Congratulations on the full sweep Jmart! It's a shame you're not- Wait, he's just arrived in the time machine!

Jmart: Sorry I'm late guys, Shack's time machine is really broken. All that travelling back to watch Idol episodes overwhelmed it with devastating Seacrest energy.

Yeah you really should've listened to me, my escape from Jong Ilmerica in 2019 is a story for the ages I'll send to Hollywood one day. Also last week when Magnus tried to use it, it sent the internet back 3 days. Then Mr. X started nosebleeding yesterday, the latter is mumbling nonsense and talking about this place as death. Harrowing times my friend. Harrowing times.

Jmart: So what did I miss during the show? Wait... Jong Il what?

Oh nevermind, no biggie. Anyways you won everything, otherwise though, the show was pretty uneventful and underwhelming like the Oscars. You didn't miss much.

Jmart: Sweet!

Finally, we have one more special, surprise award. It's the "Showed up every day to school" award for the predictor who missed the least amount of games. The winner is...

Spoiler: show
Jmart007! :1st:

Yeah, I bet you're surprised

And that concludes our awards show! Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for House!

Post subject:  Re: NHL Pick'Em - Reg. Season Awards Ceremony and the Playoffs!

Now, it's time for the NHL Pick'Em Playoffs!

The playoffs will span the next 2 and a half weeks, unfortunately crimped by the server malfunction and admittedly poor planning. Here's the system:

There will be 3 rounds. Going by the final seedings of 1. Jmart007, 2. Shack, 3. trixster, 4. MikeQ., 5. Rev, well... nothing! The regular season rankings don't matter for the playoffs, this is a new and level playing field. That's not to take anything away from the regular season awards, they are a seperate entity.

Here's how it's going to work:

The first round will be on Saturday, April 4th, where all 5 players will predict. This will be the SUDDEN DEATH opening round. Meaning, the player who finishes last will be eliminated automatically, then the remaining 4 will be seeded according to their finishes.

The second round will span Sunday, April 5th, Monday, April 6th, Tuesday, April 7th, and Wednesday, April 8th. The 1st seed will play the 4th, the 2nd will play the 3rd. The winners will then advance to the finals.

The finals will span Thursday, April 9th, Friday, April 10th, Saturday, April 11th, and Sunday, April 12th, the final day of the regular season.

"But Shack, these rounds are too close, won't that be weird? What about those of us who live in Denmarks, I have trouble getting my Saturdays predictions in with your three days rests, this will be too hards for me"

"Yeah Shack, what if I get called to a emergency snob club meeting to decide whether Antoinetti or Tarkovsky is superior, this is really making things difficult for me"

"ya what if I'm too busy smoking weed with Obama :D "

Well just wait, I haven't revealed the twist yet. Ok, here it is. You will be predicting every game in the week and a half playoffs off the bat and now. If you're eliminated early then they'll simply be regarded as meaningless. Well then, without further ado, here is your Games to Predict list of DOOM.

Round 1, or the "Sudden Death" round

Saturday, April 4
NY Rangers @ Boston (1 PM)
New Jersey @ Buffalo
Pittsburgh @ Carolina
Tampa Bay @ NY Islanders
Philadelphia @ Ottawa
Montreal @ Toronto
St. Louis @ Dallas
Columbus @ Nashville
Vancouver @ Edmonton
Anaheim @ San Jose
Phoenix @ Los Angeles

Tiebreaker: Predict scores for Pittsburgh @ Carolina, Montreal @ Toronto, Columbus @ Nashville games. Second tiebreaker: Predict combined points of Malkin and Crosby + Brodeur saves.

Round 2

Sunday, April 5th
Minnesota @ Detroit
Atlanta @ Washington
Pittsburgh @ Florida
Chicago @ Columbus
San Jose @ Anaheim
Colorado @ Vancouver

Monday, April 6th

Dallas @ Minnesota
Los Angeles @ Edmonton
Calgary @ Vancouver
St. Louis @ Phoenix
Colorado @ San Jose

Wednesday, April 8th
Buffalo @ Toronto (Tiebreaker: Over/Under 5.5 goals)
Columbus @ Chicago (Tiebreaker: Mason vs Toews points using the fantasy system. Mason get's .1 points for each save, and loses a full point for giving a goal. So 20 shot shutout = 2 points. 3 goals on 20 shots = -1.)

Second tiebreaker: Predict total shots in Columbus/Chicago game

THE FINALS

Thursday, April 9th
Montreal @ Boston
Buffalo @ Carolina
Philadelphia @ NY Rangers
Florida @ Atlanta
Nashville @ Dtroit
New Jersey @ Ottawa
NY Islanders @ Pittsburgh
Washington @ Tampa Bay
Dallas @ Colorado
Los Angeles @ Vancouver

Anaheim @ Phoenix
Washington @ Florida
Tampa Bay @ Atlanta
Minnesota @ Columbus
Edmonton @ Calgary

Sunday, April 12th
Detroit @ Chicago
Boston @ NY Islanders
NY Rangers @ Philadelphia
St. Louis @ Colorado

But wait, there's more! Oh yes, you're not getting off that easy. Questions! Each question worth one point:

Which will be higher, Malkin points or Ovechkin goals x2

Who's GAA will be lower, Steve Mason or Pekka Renne?

Who will finish with the 2nd most goals, Zach Parise, Jeff Carter, or Ilya Kovalchuk?

Who will win the Northwest division, Calgary or Vancouver/Who will finish lower, Toronto or Ottawa? *each worth .5 points*

Who wins the "Hedman cup" and finishes 2nd last, Tampa Bay or Colorado?/True or false, Boston will finish with twice as many points as the Islanders *each worth .5 points*

Seed the 4 West and 4 East playoff matchups.

West
1. vs 8.
2. vs 7.
3. vs 6.
4. vs 5.

Every correct seeding is worth .25 points. A 100% correct match-up is worth .75.

East
1. vs. 8.
2. vs 7.
3. vs 6.
4. vs 5.

Tiebreaker:

Combined total of Malkin, Ovechkin, Crosby's points, PLUS the difference between Malkin and Ovechkin's points, PLUS the difference between Ovechkin and Crosby's points, DIVIDED BY Steve Mason's GAA, MULTIPLYED BY Tim Thomas' Save %.

Well that's it, good luck and remember to appoint yourself enough time! Aside from the NY game, the predictions are due on Saturday night at 7 ET. Though as all the games on Saturday are so important, you don't want to forget that one either.

Good luck!

I should clarify the tiebreaker rules, the score matters, not the winners. This is so people aren't at an advantage just by getting bad luck, that is the tiebreaker falling on a game they picked wrong to the other person's right. And no I'm not just saying this because this is coming down to a tiebreaker and I'm involved. I haven't calculated it yet.

Here are the results. Remember rankings matter to determine the seeds next round. The tiebreakers came into play here quite strongly, determining 1st and 2nd and 3rd and 4th. Only 5th and last was definitive.

In 1st place...

Sorry Rev... the road ends here. The Rangers and Leafs did you in, luckily for me with my poor tiebreaking skills. But that's quite they call it sudden death.

Therefore the matchups for Round 2 are:

1 MikeQ. vs 4 Shack
2 trixster vs 3 Jmart007

I should also mention how dumb my 2nd tiebreaker was for Round 1. It should've been Crosby and Malkin points + Brodeur goals against. This way basically just made it Brodeur shots. Nevertheless the only one who suffered from it was me so it's fitting!

Post subject:  Re: NHL Pick'Em - Round 1 results... Round 2 head to head begins

The results are in! Interestingly enough, all 4 players ended up with the same score - 14-10. So it came down to tiebreakers. The correct answer on the tiebreakers was Under for Toronto vs Buffalo Over/Under 5.5 goals, and Toews for the Mason vs Toews using the fantasy system (Mason let in 3 goals to 24 saves for a -.6 score. Toews scored 1 point). Thus the contestants in the finals, are:

MikeQ. and trixster!

Jmart and I both picked Mason, which led to our undoing. MikeQ. beat me on the Over/Under tiebreaker as well.

Well, good luck in the finals you two!
