I hate to cashing in on the train when so many else are doing it, but considering basketball is undoubtably the best sport of all, there simply had to be a power rankings for it too. This is ranking them before the season starts. Spoiler: show |

Post subject: | Re: NBA Power Rankings - Pre Season |
Week 1 1. New Orleans Hornets (3-0) - The team in 2nd place is still probably "the favorite", but the Hornets get the top spot in this week from looking so strong against decent competition in the Suns and Cavs. The scary part is that that their 3rd and 4th best players last year, Chandler and Stojakovic, are out. Paul might be the league's best player bar none. 2. Los Angeles Lakers (3-0) - After slaughtering their opponents in the first two games, they played and shot probably as bad as they will in Denver... and still won. Still potentially unstoppable if their defense is as good as its been so far. 3. Houston Rockets (3-0) - Undefeated even with Battier out and a hobbled TMac. The Dallas game showed the value of Artest already - TMac was able to rest his nursing body while he took the offensive load in the 4th. Still working out a few kinks, but their ceiling is as high as anyone's. 4. Utah Jazz (3-0) - No D Will, no problem. You could justify their first two wins from them just being one of the best home teams ever and playing Denver without Melo and the Clippers without Davis, but shalacking the Clips again tonight in their building when they were at full strength, is impressive any way you look at it, even if they are the Clippers. And again... their best player and MVP candidate isn't even playing! On a side note, Kirilenko off the bench is looking like a stroke of genius. 5. Toronto Raptors (3-0) - Oh yeaaaa. Will be self generous with the top East spot because the competition was harder than Detroit's. ![]() 6. Atlanta Hawks (2-0) - Really nice opening two wins, taking out Orlando on the road and then having that huge 23 point+ comeback against Philly at home. Johnson has been fantastic so far. Again there's no doubt they'll fall behind Detroit soon enough, but having two quality wins on their schedule, they get a place in the sun for this week. 7. Detroit Pistons (3-0) - Enter Allen Iverson. Pretty easy opening week schedule for the Pistons, but still pretty impressive rout in Charlotte today with neither Billups or AI in. They were able to sustain it because the Pistons are insanely deep this year... Stuckey, Johnson, Affalo, Maxiell... they've done a great job setting up for the future on the fly. 8. Cleveland Cavaliers (2-2) - Hard to criticize anyone for losing on the road to Boston and New Orleans... originally I had them lower because their win at home against Charlotte proved an equal amount of nothing, but their sound defeat of the Mavs tonight and Lebron actually looking like Lebron again, solidified their place. Mo Williams looks like a real solid pickup, so far. 9. Phoenix Suns (2-1) - They look good, the win in San Antonio was nice. I'll need some more convincing to say they can still contend, but they're at least in there. Their one loss to New Orleans is a little hard to criticize them for as Paul always rapes PGs like Nash or Kidd that can't keep up with him, Phoenix went 0-4 against them last year. Shaq looks leaner and more effective than I expected. They definitely look better than the Mavericks. 10. Boston Celtics (2-1) - This what you get for losing to the Pacers by 16... I'll move them up within a few weeks, don't worry. For the first time since the KG, the Celts looked like they didn't care in that loss, though. With that being said, expect them to come out pumped up to make up for this loss. 11. Indiana Pacers (1-1) - This is what you get for beating the Celtics by 16. Also put up a pretty good fight in the loss in Detroit. This team looks like a top contender for the open 7/8 slot in the East. Again they probably won't stay in the top eleven, but the teams below have done anything more impressive than the Boston win. I'll give them a spot this high for their solid performance so far. 12. Denver Nuggets (1-2) - Hard to blame them for their two losses, losing in Utah in the no Williams no Melo duel, then giving the Lakers their toughest test so far. They've looked fiestier and more willing to play defense, actually. The Billups trade should get them a playoff spot, whether or not McDyess stays is a big factor in their success actually... without him their frontcourt looks woefully liable in the case of injury. Melo might get close to 30ppg again now with Iverson out of the way. 13. Portland Trailblazers (1-2) - Winning against San Antonio was impressive, but the Blazers are gonna have to figure things out on the road, where they look awful, even considering their competition, LA and Phoenix, was tough. They better do it fast, 16 of their first 23 games are away from home. Considering the Oden injury and their strength at home, if they are still sitting around .500 after that stretch, it'll be a success and will set them up nicely for a playoff run. 14. Orlando Magic (2-2) - Losing the opener to Atlanta at home, then losing in Memphis, was pretty bad, although both teams have proved they are solid this year at least. Hard to brag about beating the Kings, or narrowly to the Bulls, who I'm not sold on at all. But still, they're a lock for the playoffs. 15. Chicago Bulls (2-2) - Your record is diminished when your two wins are home games against Milwaukee and Memphis, but you can't blame them for losing in Boston or narrowly in Orlando to a seemingly back on track Magic. Rose has superstar written all over him. All the media pundits saying ROY was a two way race between Oden and Beasely... what a joke. Already by far the best player on his team. 16. San Antonio Spurs (0-2) - Winless so far, but neither loss is crucifiable. The Suns had revenge on the mind, and Portland should be an excellent home team this year like they were last time around. With that being said, they don't look hot at all. They're supporting cast is awful, awful, awful this year. Duncan and Parker have to carry the team until Ginobli gets back. They're a better team than #17, but until they win I can't put them higher. 17. Memphis Grizzlies (2-2) - Their win over Orlando was impressive, as was beating up on the Warriors tonight. With that being said, both games were at home, where I expect they'll be much much better than on the road this year from their youth. Lower than the Spurs and Bulls because the loss is Chicago is worse than their 2. 18. Milwaukee (2-2) - Beating Oklahoma City and the Knicks is nothing to get too excited about, but at least they did it on the road. Their defence looks better than it has in year's past, from Skiles' coaching. They were one Calderon clutch shot from being 3-1 to start the season with three of their first four away from home... not bad. 19. Philadelphia 76ers (2-2) - Disappointing so far. Hard to give them credit for beating the lowly Kings and Knicks, and unlike the Bucks, these wins were at home, and the loss to Toronto was less competitive. No shooting on this team is a bigger downfall than most analysts admitted... good teams will just use zone as their kryptonite. one of Miller, Iguodala, or Young has to be traded. I say move Iggy, he has the highest value/is overrated, Young can probably fill his role nicely. 20. Dallas Mavericks (1-2) - They look like crap... losing to the Cavs by 19 at home is NOT a good sign. Beating the Wolves deserves no credit. Kidd is finished... their championship window is finished unless they make a miracle trade. They needed to do Kidd for Iverson... their oppurtunity is gone. After the Billups trade, they're probably not making the playoffs, I count 8 teams better than them in the West. 21. Golden State Warriors (1-3) - They beat the team directly below them in their building... so they get the higher spot. Put up decent fights at home against New Orleans and then in Toronto, but got raped by Marc Gasol in Memphis. I hate the Warriors this year... they're talented, but full of chuckers. I like Biedrins though, I hope they keep going to him, he's been doing well. 22. New Jersey Nets (1-1) - Hard to keep a .500 team lower than 21, they had a nice road win in Washington. But yeah, they suck. VC is one of the league's more underrated players at this moment though, as much as I hate to admit it... he's still a top notch player, as good as say TMac or Iverson, but obviously in a much worse situation. 23. Charlotte Bobcats (1-2) - We beat Miami! 24. NY Knicks (1-2) - We beat Miami too! So the question is, what's worse? Losing to the Pistons at home without Billups or AI, or the Bucks at home? Hmm.. tie. Tiebreaker: Knicks got destroyed by an ok Philly team, Bobcats got destroyed by a better Cavs. 25. Miami (1-2) - We lost to the Knicks... shit... well, what about the Bobcats... crap, we lost to them too. Wait, we beat the Kings! Aw wait... shit... they're a disgrace. But we have Wade, Beasely, and Marion! Who cares if our starting PG is Chris Quinn! We HAVE WADE!!! ![]() 26. Oklahoma City (1-2) - Would be winless if their fans weren't so damn... awesome! They treated that shitty Timberwolves game like the playoffs. Also, their two losses were to a great Houston team and a decent Milwaukee one. But they still suck. 27. LA Clippers (0-4) - 27 may seem to high for an 0-4 team that's lost by an average of 19 points a game, but their schedule has been hard, with LA, Denver, then Utah twice. They're still pretty horrid though, and injuries have already begun... good ol' Clippers. 28. Washington Wizards (0-2) - Losing to the Nets at home is baddddddd. Haywood's injury is way more damaging than Arenas' at this point, their frontcourt is downright awful. Potential for a Heat-like fall this year. 29. Minnesota Timberwolves (1-2) - Beating the Kings by two points is worse than a loss against a real team. That combined with losing to Oklahoma City puts them among the winless teams. I'm almost certain the Love for Mayo deal will go down as one of the worst in McHale's tenure, and that's saying something. 30. Sacramento Kings (0-4) - 77-103 against Miami... 103-121 against Orlando... 91-125 against Philly... Wow.. that just happened. On the other hand though, they're an extremely young team that started with 4 road games. And Brad Miller's gone. But that does not excuse losing to 25 against Miami! On the brightside, Hawes and Thompson look great and this team landing in the bottom 3 is the best thing that could possibly happen to them. |

Post subject: | Re: NBA Power Rankings - Week 1 |
Week 2 Bigger mover - Sacramento Kings (up 13) Biggest drop - San Antonio Spurs (down 9) 1. Los Angeles Lakers (5-0) (up 1) – Easy decision this week. Undefeated, a winning margin of over 20, and they destroyed a good Rockets team. They haven’t played any good teams on the road yet, but I don’t think it’ll matter. The improvement Bynum has created on the defensive end, combined with the #1 team and offensive machine they were last year, is truly scary. 2. Boston Celtics (7-1) (up 8) – Should be in the top 5 for good now, barring an injury. Their hunger of last year has been replaced with a swagger to stay on top, once again they look like the best defensive team in the league. Looks like a 3rd LA vs Boston era rivalry is on. 3. Atlanta Hawks (5-0) (up 3) – I didn’t think I’d be moving the Hawks up this week, but I have to give credit where credit’s due to one of the two undefeated teams remaining, especially when one of their three wins this week was on the road in New Orleans. They look super confident, are playing together, and Johnson is on fire. Special credit goes to Flip Murray, probably the best “cheap veteran†pick-up of this year so far. 4. Phoenix Suns (6-2) (up 5) – Pretty impressive start, they’re 6-1 with Shaq in the line-up. Amare’s just been a beast since the two have paired together. This team isn’t quite finished yet. 5. Utah Jazz (5-1) (down 1) – Impossible to judge. On one hand going 5-1 without their best player is impressive, but they’ve played most of their games at home against crappy teams, their only road games being against a depleted ass Clippers team, and then... they lost to the Knicks. But then again, Utah has historically sucked in NY, not winning there since 03/04, and the Knicks are a WTF? 4-2. So yea, whatever... aside from the record, there’s reason to believe the Jazz will improve this year over last, with their bench looking as good as anyone in the league’s. 6. Cleveland Cavaliers (5-2) (up 2) – Lebron = back. Rest of the league = ![]() 7. New Orleans Hornets (4-2) (down 5) – They’re probably better than this ranking, but losing to Atlanta and Charlotte at home is bounds for power ranking punishment... I wouldn’t expect too many Hornets performances like that from now on. Congrats to Paul for being the first point guard EVER to start a season with 6 20/10s and counting. 8. Houston Rockets (4-3) (down 5) – They look shaky without doubt. There’s no denying this team has as much talent as anyone, but they need to reconfigure their offense, the one Adelman used in his Kings days won’t work with Yao in the middle, who’s just looked lost, tired, and soft out there. There’s reason to believe they’ll figure it out, it’s too early to write this early powerhouse pick off yet. 9. Detroit Pistons (4-2) (down 2) – 0-2 with Iverson so far, but it’s hard to say it’s really his fault, he’s played pretty excellent, it’s just everyone else on the team has shot like crap. I still think the best Pistons team this year was the one without Billups or AI with Stuckey running the show... they had a hungry dog feel to them that has been missing in Detroit for a while. The Pistons with Iverson should put it together sooner than later. 10. Portland Trailblazers (4-3) (up 3) –@ LA, vs San Antonio, @ Phoenix, @ Utah, vs Houston, vs Minnesota, @ Orlando. Did they really pull 4 wins out of that? Yep... and without Oden (though I feel Pryzbilla is better than a rookie Oden will be). In retrospective, going 4-3 against that is very, very impressive. They definitely feel like a playoff team. Rudy Fernandez looks great... as if the Blazers needed any more budding stars! This team will do wonders in their loud home stadium, so as long as they can keep level on the road, things will look good for them. 11. Denver Nuggets (3-3) (up 1) – 2-0 since getting Billups, although both were close home wins. I still think George Karl is retarded. 12. Toronto Raptors (4-3) (down 7) – We lost to the 4-0 Pistons, the 3-0 Hawks, and the 6-1 Celtics. Not too much to be ashamed about. However I can’t lie to myself and say this is a top ten team... our coach sucks too much, we roll over too easily, we’re always exploited defensively at the 3. But we’re getting there. Getting Joe Johnson in 2010 would be lovely. 13. New York Knicks (4-2) (up 11) – The Knicks are 4-2 and the Spurs are 1-4. When the Knicks win by double digits tonight, the apocalypse will rain down on us all. I can’t believe I’m saying this... the Knicks have playoff potential! 14. Indiana Pacers (3-3) (up 3) – In light of their tough opening schedule, 3-3 is pretty decent. Pretty standard week for them, losing to the teams they were supposed to and beating the ones they were too... I think they’ll be a pretty under the radar team all year. Ford is really starting to pick things up, and Dunleavy should be back soon. Like the Knicks and 14 other teams in the East, they have playoff potential too. 15. Orlando Magic (4-3) (down 1) – You know your bench sucks when Turkoglu and Howard go for 30 each and you still lose to a bad road team. A rather unspectacular start to the season so far for them compared to last year. 16. Miami Heat (4-3) (up 9) – Still not completely feeling it for the Heat, destroying the Spurs may have been impressive until you see the awful roster they rolled out in that game and will be for the next month. Though they look a lot better than last week... Another playoff potential team. That’s how the East shapes up this year... 5 probably sure things (Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, Orlando, Toronto), 1 “was a sure thing till last week... OOPs, they suck so far†(Philly), then EIGHT teams contending for the last two spots (Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Milwaukee, Indiana, New York, New Jersey, Charlotte) and one shitfest (Washington), 17. Sacramento Kings (3-4) (up 13) – What a difference one week makes... after going home and getting Miller, they look like a playoff contender, winning all their games this week easily. If only they can play that well on the road, they’ll be set. Though to be honest, they’d probably have been better off being a bottom 3 team. 18. Chicago Bulls (3-4) (down 3) – Hard to blame them for getting Lebron-ed twice in one week. I don’t really like this team, though. Seems a bit mixed up. Larry Hughes coming back should strike fear into Bulls fans hearts. 19. Milwaukee Bucks (3-4) (down 1) – Redd’s injury hurts, Bucks just have to hope they can stay alive until he gets back. Ramon Sessions and Luc Mbah a Moute are helping this team a lot right now, they have a nice core. This team appears to be better than the Bucks of the past, but then again, they started 7-4 last year before becoming a lol team. 20. Philadelphia 76ers (2-4) (down 1)– Their half court offense looks uglier than Greg Oden after getting hit with a sledgehammer right now. There’s enough talent on this team to believe they’ll turn it around, but a trade might have to happen first. Without shooting, Brand can just be doubled all day, while the rest dribble around the paint trying to figure out what to do. 21. Memphis Grizzlies (3-5) (down 4) – Looking competitive against hard road competition, OJ Mayo is sick. Grizzlies will be near the top in the couple years, finally. The Gasol trade looks like a work of genius now. 22. Charlotte Bobcats (2-4) (down 1) – Very impressive win in New Orleans, not so impressive loss to the Knicks. Probably a lottery team again this year, though you never know in the East. Will be interesting to see if the Gerald Wallace trade rumors keep up... if they get Eddy Curry in return, MJ should be shot. Though I definitely wouldn’t put it past him. As a whole though, pretty meh team. 23. Dallas Mavericks (2-4) (down 3) – Losing to the Clippers... ouch!!! Soon to be 2-5 considering there’s no way they beat LA... I think it’s fair to say the Kidd trade has been an EPIC FAIL. Dirk should still be good for a couple years where they might be able to sign a big FA, so I wouldn’t completely close their window, but yeah, Mavs looks bad. 24. Golden State Warriors (2-5) (down 3) – Is this team tanking? They played Rob Kurz and CJ Watson 22 and 27 minutes the other night. What??? Biedrins’ amazing play so far has been a waste, though the future of the team is looking nice. This year though, a mess. 25. San Antonio Spurs (1-4) (down 9) – Look completely awful, and with Parker’s injury, things should only get worse. You know you’re in trouble when your second best player on the floor by far is Roger Mason, Jr. Duncan can’t save this team by himself. There’s potential the Spurs tank like they did 10 years ago to get Duncan, if their month without Parker goes horrible enough as it appears it will. 26. New Jersey Nets (2-4) (down 4) – Only this high because of their nice win in Detroit. Should be one of the league’s worst, and an embarrassment when VC inevitably goes down with an “injuryâ€Â. That is if they don’t trade him before then, which I would expect. 27. Oklahoma City Thunder (1-6) (down 1) – The NBA equivalent of “well... nice try†so far this year. I guess you could do worse than working hard and losing. 28. LA Clippers (1-6) (down 1) – This was supposed to be a playoff contender? Their fate was sealed as soon as they cursed themselves by signing Ricky Davis. In true Clipper fashion, this team is a bunch of pretty good players that don’t fit together whatsoever, plus they’re injury prone as hell. 29. Minnesota Timberwolves (1-5) (=) – Exact copy of the Grizzlies before the Gasol trade last year. Lots of offensive weapons, no defense... Competitive against good teams, but find a way to lose. I expect them to be one of the league’s worst. 30. Washington Wizards (0-5) (down 2) – No Brendan Haywood = Etan Thomas as your starting center. Etan Thomas as your starting center = Massive fail! Wizards should be sitting at the bottom of this list as long as they have no interior defence. |

Post subject: | Re: NBA Power Rankings Week 2 - Happy week for Nebs |
Week 3 Biggest rise: San Antonio Spurs Biggest fall: Atlanta Hawks 1. Los Angeles Lakers (9-1) (=) - You can't win them all... doesn't matter. Still the league's best so far, and that's with Kobe almost saving his energy. 2. Cleveland Cavaliers (9-2) (up 4) - 8 in a row in counting. As always the Cavs play great d and rebound, but the difference this year is that they're offense has actually been as good and smooth as anyone's in the league. Lebron is learning how to play off the ball and use his attention to help his teammates' efficiency, rather than dominate the ball and do it all himself. And the results have been phenomenal. 3. Boston Celtics (8-2) (down 1) - Great record, but there's undeniably something... different than this team than from a year ago. They've come away with some wins they shouldn't have had. They could be missing Posey. But they're still the Celtics. 4. Detroit Pistons (8-3) (up 5) - First team to beat the Lakers gets them in the top 5. Losing to Phoenix wasn't pretty, but the matchup was tough for them anyways with Amare and Shaq inside. After the slow start, the Iverson trade is looking solid. 5. Houston Rockets (7-4) (up 3) - Look out, the Rockets are figuring it out, and that's with TMac still hobbled and playing like crap and Battier still injured. A contender for sure. 6. Utah Jazz (7-4) (down 1) - GET HEALTHY. On one hand, they looked like crap without AK, Okur, and Williams... of course they did. Managing to beat Phoenix without the last two was damn impressive, proving either AK's importance or the fact that the Jazz are just ridiculously retarded good at home. 7. Phoenix Suns (8-4) (down 3) - Would've been higher if they hadn't lost their last two games, albeit to tough Detroit and Utah teams. Nash looks slower. Definitely looking like a playoff team that won't win the title. 8. Orlando Magic (8-3) (up 7) - Quietly 8-1 after the opening two losses. The Magic always start hot, but still nice. Shard's contract totally limits this team though... their bench is horrible and their options in the next few years are few. 9. Denver Nuggets (7-4) (up 2) - Quietly 6-1 since the Billups trade. Nene is a better defender than Camby, add that to Billups and general stronger defensive effort and I think this is a much better team than last year. 10. Portland Trailblazers (6-5) (=) - As long as they hang around .500 through their first 20 with their tough schedule, they'll be good for a playoff spot. So far so good. Oden looks scary so far, definitely a superstar center in the making if he stays healthy. His d is as I expected, offensively I didn't expect him to be this good already though. 11. New Orleans Hornets (5-4) (down 4) - Just don't look the same as last year. Paul is putting up the numbers, but I dunno. They miss Peja's production for sure. Or last year was just a matter of overachieving. We'll see. 12. San Antonio Spurs (5-5) (up 13) - They're backkkkkkkk. 5-1 since Parker went down... how I doubted mr. Duncan winning games by himself I don't know. MVP of the season so far. 13. Dallas Mavericks (4-7) (up 10) - The win in New York was their official "we're not taking this fucking shit anymore" mission statement. They then went into Charlotte and scored the first 15 points. I expect a big winning streak now. 14. Philadelphia 76ers (5-5) (up 6) - Definitely figuring things out now, they're too strong and have too much talent not too. Their defence and rebounding should be excellent all year long, and Green and Young have shown range lately so that should help their shooting woes. Nice week for the Sixers. 15. Indiana Pacers (5-5) (down 1) - Just a solid team. Hard to write much about them. Will give you a tough fight, but can be beat with enough skill. Granger looks great. 16. Atlanta Hawks (6-4) (down 13) - Officially down to earth... BIG TIME. Losing to New Jersey twice in a row is NOT pretty. They look awful without Smith now. 17. Toronto Raptors (5-5) (down 5) - Frustrating. Our frontcourt is as good as anyone's, our wings are as bad as anyone's. Moon, Kapono, and a currently playing like shit Parker. OUCH. As bad defensively as offensively. Oh, and Sam Mitchell is the worst coach in the NBA. I understand we don't have the best options, but in the past week and a half we've stuck Kapono one on one for periods with Pierce, Wade, and Turkoglu. Bosh plays 45 minutes on the first night of every back to back. No offensive or defensive strategies ever. FUCK YOU. 18. New York Knicks (6-5) (down 5) - Were higher until the last two games. They were tough ones though, so it's hard to blame them too much. Still think this team will settle down though, 30-35 wins sounds right. Still nice job by D'Antoni, considering you're paying Starbury and Curry 30 mil combined to stay at home and eat hamburgers. 19. Miami Heat (6-5) (down 3) - Having the record they do is a testament to Wade's performance so far. No PG, no C, no bench, Marion playing like a horse's ass. Working so hard might wear him out though and they can't do anything on the road... I don't think they'll keep the playoff pace up. 20. Chicago Bulls (5-6) (down 2) - Just repeat what I said for Miami except for with Rose. The rest of the Bulls except for maybe Gordon, look like total shit. The combo of Thomas, Gooden, Noah, and Gray is undoubtably the ugliest, most lolz frontcourt in the NBA. 21. Golden State Warriors (5-6) (up 3) - Looking better, mostly thanks to the play of... Anthony Morrow??? ![]() 22. Milwaukee Bucks (5-7) (up 3) - Could be worse considering Redd's injury. If they stay alive, they can make a playoff push when he gets back. Still a team on the way up, though. 23. New Jersey Nets (4-6) (up 3) - Devin Harris looks fantastic, what a steal that trade that was. Still a lottery team, but they're more competitive than I expected coming in. 24. Sacramento Kings (4-8) (down 7) - Competitive without Martin, they should still be able to compete with anyone at home when he gets back. But to be honest, this team would be better off with losses right now. John Salmons = Most Improved Player, btw. 25. Memphis Grizzlies (4-7) (down 4) - Mayo and Gay is a lethal scoring duo, but it always feels like this team should have more young chemistry than they do. Gay being a me-first black hole probably doesn't help that. This team is definitely on the way up though. 26. Charlotte Bobcats (3-7) (down 4) - Poop... losing JRich makes them pretty close to the league's worst. Word is Gerald Wallace might be gone by like, tomorrow. Stay tuned. 27. Washington Wizards (1-7) (up 3) - Shit, but they haven't played many home games and they get the edge over the bottom 3 just for having the injured excuse. 28. Minnesota (1-8) (up 1) - I dub thee the Baby Mavs. Wolves have taken the "blowing close games" stigma to a ludacris level this year. As in, 7 of their 8 losses they blew in the last minute and in many blew big leads right at the end. Wittman's days are numbered... 29. Oklahoma City Thunder (1-10) (down 2) - The only thing more embarrasing than the Thunder is... 30. LA Clippers (1-9) (down 2) - ... being ranked lower than the Thunder. When you built your team to win now. I mean... yikes. Team is full of overrated players who can't play team ball. Dunleavy and Barons' styles don't mix whatsoever. Typical Clippers... the curse around this franchise is amazing. Here's a stat: The Lakers have missed the playoffs 5 times in their history. The Clippers have made it 3. That's just unfair. |

Week 4 Big riser: Spurs/Bulls/Nets Big fall: Detroit 1. Los Angeles Lakers (11-1) (=) - High chance they stay here all year long. Point differential is looking like the Celtics last year, except amazingly while that team appearaed to be busting their hungry asses to win all their games, the Lakers and in particular Kobe seem to be doing this in an easy laid back style. 70 win potential. 2. Boston Celtics (13-2) (up 1) - Keeping pace with their usual buddies. While LA has had the illusion of the "big dog" of the league, Boston only have 1 less loss than them is nothing to sneeze at. 3. Cleveland Cavaliers (10-3) (down 1) - Having their winning streak broken is nothing to be worried about, but New York shortening their contracts and essentially hanging up a "WE'RE COMING FOR LEBRON WITH LOTS OF CASHHHHHH CLEVELAND! MWHAHAHA!!!" sign, is. I have no idea what happens to this franchise if Bron leaves. 4. Houston Rockets (10-5) (up 1) - Even though they've had to work through kinks in the offense and injuries, this Rockets team has shown resilience... a fighting spirit. They badly need a backup for Yao, though. 5. Denver Nuggets (9-5) (up 4) - The year's most underrated team so far this year. Of their 5 losses, one was in Utah without Melo, 2 were against the Lakers, and one was in Cleveland. Finally, their win in Boston was as impressive of any this year. So far they have the best of the Billups/AI trade, and replacing Camby with Nene looks like genius, as long as he can stay healthy. I'm shocked the Nuggets are verging on "elite"... I could've sworn they had worse direction than any team in the league after last year. Shows how fast things can turn. 6. San Antonio Spurs (7-6) (up 6) - Ginobli back, Parker almost back, all engines go! Going 5-2 without those two could mean scary things for the league. With Hill and Mason, Jr. both playing damn excellent so far this year, the Spurs are a lot more deep offensively than last year. They just need one more big man. 7. Utah Jazz (9-5) (down 1) - Not even the Jazz can win every home game with Williams + Boozer injured. Still a respectable record for all their injuries so far, when healthy I think the Jazz are the 2nd or 3rd in the West, so I'll leave them up here. 8. Phoenix Suns (9-5) (down 1) - Their schedule's been tough lately and they've played respectable with Detroit and Portland wins. Still, I can't help but feel in my gut this team might not even make the playoffs. I know that seems like crazy talk, LA/Utah/Houston/Denver/San Antonio/Portland all look set... NO you have to assume will find their way again... then its the Suns and Mavs dueling. If Shaq slows down after the ASB there could be trouble, they've looked bad when he's had 'tired games'. 9. Dallas Mavericks (6-7) (up 4) - I know putting a sub .500 team in the top ten is a stretch, but I'm feeling the Mavs lately. Right after the NY game the first thing I thought was that the sleeping lion had been awoken now that they're confidence in close games was back, and they've blown out every team since, and Josh Howard isn't even playing. This is basically the finals/67 win team + Kidd... with confidence they have sky high potential. 10. Portland Trailblazers (9-6) (=) - Coming in I thought if they could stay .500 over their tough first 20, it would be a huge success, but they've been outdoing that so far. Oden will be a beast... shit I'm jealous. 11. Orlando Magic (9-4) (down 3) - Pretty standard week, though I didn't expect Yao to own Dwight like that. Right now the Magic have the highest scoring starting lineup in the league and the worst bench, so they better help for good health. 12. New Orleans (8-5) (down 1) - Hard to brag about beating the Thunder/Thunder/Clippers, but wins are wins. Paul pretty much is the team this year, though, they're badly thin. 13. Detroit Pistons (8-5) (down 9) - Losing 3 of 4, including getting blown out to the Wolves at home... Yikes! The biggest problem isn't Iverson, it's that since his best friends forever!/secret lover Billups left, Hamilton has stopped caring about playing or winning at all. I think if they wanted to move Billups, they should've looked to fill the frontcourt instead of PG, where Stuckey was more than able. 14. Chicago Bulls (7-8) (up 6) - I don't get this team. They look like they should be the biggest mess in the league, with a bunch of guys going for their own stats instead of the team, and the worst frontcourt in the league. But then they go and put up respectable results against the hardest schedule in the league and pull off games like winning in Utah. I guess Rose has been THAT good. 15. Atlanta Hawks (8-5) (up 1) - Righting the ship a bit, but hard to get a real read on them until Smith returns. Middle ground team. 16. Philadelphia 76ers (7-7) (down 2) - Losing to Charlotte and Minnesota = ugly. The rosters not a very good fit... Miller and Brand are a horrible fit, Iggy can't run, no shooting. I think they'll figure things out within a few months with their defensive and rebounding skills but this is far from the lofty heights they were expected to be at. 17. New Jersey Nets (6-6) (up 6) - All right, time to give credit where credit's due. Nets look good. The Harris/VC combo is lethal and Lopez/Boone/the Chairman are doing fine in the front. Still pretty bad at defense, but this is way better than the bottom 5 team I expected. 18. New York Knicks (7-6) (=) - Well they resigned to 'we want Lebron' status, but they might be able to make a playoff push if D'Antoni's system works as well as it is now. Beating any team with 6 players is impressive any way you look at it. Overall though, this is the most positive week the Knicks have had in years. 19. Milwaukee Bucks (7-9) (up 3) - The fighting Bucks. Again hard to say whether they can make a playoff push until Redd comes back, but the fact that they're alive at all with his absence is a brighter spot than the last couple years. Until then though, pretty eh/irrelevant team. 20. Miami Heat (7-7) (down 1) - Wade can only carry you so far. They've survived from an easy schedule, but I expect they'll soon fall below .500 for good this season. 21. Toronto Raptors (6-7) (down 4) - Blarhghaghah. SAM MITCHELL SUCKS!!! 22. Indiana Pacers (5-7) (down 7) - Losing that 25 point lead to Philly last week seems to have deflated their sails. They were also relying for a while on Rasho being a super Rasho, but he's cooled down lately. They still might be respectable when Dunleavy returns, though. 23. Golden State Warriors (5-8) (down 2) - I have no idea what this team's doing. JCrawf? Really??? With the wing buildup you already have? (they're hording them all... can you give the Raptors some now?) I mean it's not like they'll be within 5 games of the playoffs anyways. 24. Sacramento Kings (5-11) (=) - Meh. John Salmons looks good. Thompson and Hawes were great draft picks. All I have to say. 25. Charlotte Bobcats (4-9) (up 1) - Meh. DJ Augustin looks good. Kaman looks like me might be moved for JRich. Other than that and thanks for beating the Sixers, not much to say. 26. Minnesota Timberwolves (3-9) (up 2) - Nice win in Detroit. You still suck. Love for Mayo is already halfway to "infamously bad". I mean you traded potential superduperstar OJ Mayo for an undersized unathletic jumpshooting white guy. Kevin McHale ftw! 27. Memphis Grizzlies (4-10) (down 2) - Pretty crappy. Still think they'd be better off with someone like Alderidge instead of Gay to team up with Mayo. Not a Gay fan, selfish player. 28. LA Clippers (2-12) (up 2) - Forget the jump from their playoff run a couple years ago to now... even the jump from the end of last season where they sat at "nice Gordon/Thornton/Brand/Kaman" core with solid cap mobility, couple moves away from really making noise, to "Baron Davis and Zach Randolph getting overpaid past 2010, Ricky Davis!, 2-12, our options and future is fucked!!!", is hilarious. 29. Washington Wizards (1-10) (down 2) - Bye Jordan! Losing to the 6 man Knicks will do that. Things could get a lot uglier in Washington, Jordan wasn't the best coach, but the players were still keeping in good spirits under him. Things could get bad from here on out, especially considering Arenas and Haywood are probably out all year now. Worst medical staff ever! 30. Oklahoma City Thunder (1-13) (down 1) - NBA record low is 9 wins in a season. Stay tuned folks, this should be a tight race. |

I think if he can he should go to Portland. It's a smaller market but if he did go there he'd be guaranteed to fuck the league for 10 years. I think he'd be a bigger international megastar winning a boatload of titles and dominating for the decade than if he went to New York or Brooklyn and was just sort of near the top like Cleveland is right now. I think Brookyln would be a better choice than the Knicks though if they do move as they have better young players + Yi... Lebron would like own the entire country of China. The best place actually would've been Chicago if only the MJ history wasn't there... I get the feeling he'd rather not be "MJ 2". Otherwise though they'd be a big market + Rose. I think Chicago's likely to get Bosh or Amare for that reason. |

Post subject: | Re: NBA Power Rankings Week 3 - Losleton LaCeltaliers on top |
Week 5 Big riser: Bobcats/Clippers Big fall: Rockets/Sixers/Knicks 1. Los Angeles Lakers (14-2) (=) - I very nearly dropped them for that loss, I guess they get a mulligan this time. In any case the Lakers can't play defence like they have lately if they want to establish themselves as more than just a hot starter, they won't get past the top teams like that. If they don't pick the effort up by next week I'm giving the top spot to Boston. 2. Boston Celtics (17-2) (=) - It's hard to believe the Celtics are playing the quiet card this year, but their amazing 17-2 start has been surprisingly unheralded next to the other members of the "big 3". It's an identical record to their first 19 last year, just with less blowouts and point differential greatness. With that said they did lose Posey, Brown for basically nothing and Cassell is done, so I can't say their roster from last year is a bit hit. 3. Cleveland Cavaliers (14-3) (=) - Their offensive juggarnaut season continues, Lebron has had a lot of early sits lately. What's scary is that they could be significantly better by moving Wally's expiring for something, though it might risk screwing up their system. It took a good 6 years but the Cavs are finally a contender around Lebron. 4. San Antonio Spurs (9-8) (up 2) - Rising with a pretty rough week may seem weird, but as it stands it looks like in record all the West teams behind LA are pretty much tied and I think San Antonio will end up being the 2nd best once Parker and Ginobli fit in again, so I put them here. 5. Utah Jazz (12-7) (up 2) - Well D. Will's back. Too bad Boozer and Kirilenko and half the rest of their roster isn't. But again like the Spurs since everything is pretty level, they get this spot just for having at the end of the day one of the better teams. 6. Denver Nuggets (13-6) (down 1) - The only team that's standing in this team's way is KMart and Nene's injury history and George Karl being a bad coach. Otherwise they're pretty set at all their starting positions and the Smith/Kleiza/Birdman group off the bench is underrated. Damn that Billups trade did them well. 7. Dallas Mavericks (9-8) (up 2) - Well they choked the LA game, though staying competitive without Howard with the Lakers was pretty impressive. 8-1 in their last 9 now, the Mavs are definitely "back". 8. Portland Trailblazers (13-6) (up 2) - This might be higher than they should be, but it's hard to deny them currently sitting at #2 in the West despite Oden's injury and a tough opening road schedule. They have a lot of poise right now. I believe they're undefeated with Oden starting btw... the league's gonna be in trouble soon. 9. Houston Rockets (11-7) (down 5) - Still look shaky but Battier coming back should clear up some things. For one he's a floor leader, and with him coming back and Artest going to the bench, the latter's selfish shot selection so far this year won't be too detrimental. Rockets started 15-17 last year before taking off, so a slow start can be excused as long as they get it going later. TMac missing 3 weeks doesn't help. 10. New Orleans (9-6) (up 2) - Is it just me or have the Hornets not been playing much lately. I keep waiting to watch them to get a read on their issues so far and whether there's playoff concerns but they haven't really been on at all. So I can't say much about them right now other than the fact that they're sort of floating around the bottom of the West radar. 11. Phoenix Suns (11-7) (down 3) - Things are starting to crumble a bit for the Suns. Amare's being a baby like Marion last year and Porter's idea to run the offense through Shaq isn't too wise. Their record's pretty decent still, but everything since the Amare interview has been terrible. 12. Detroit Pistons (11-6) (up 1) - You mean trading a star PG who distributes, plays defence, and is a leader, for a star PG/SG who dominates the ball and makes the team iso-based, doesn't play defence, and isn't a leader at all, led to better results for the other team? You don't say! I'm surprised managers never put it together that while Iverson may be a heck of a talent, his style doesn't = wins. With that being said their play hasn't been bad, just inconsistent. 13. Orlando Magic (13-5) (down 2) - The Magic are who they are. With Howard/Shard/Hedo and great coaching leading to a solid inside out game they'll win 50-55 games, but don't have nearly the depth or the firepower to compete with Boston or Cleveland and will predictably go down in 6 games at the most in the 2nd round against them. The Shard contract really, really killed them. Also trading Ariza for Brian Cook... what were they thinking. 14. Atlanta Hawks (10-6) (up 1) - Hard to really judge them, they're playing .500 ball without Smith against crap competition... just sort of floating around, but I couldn't find anyone else out of the super equal East huddle better to put up here. 15. New Jersey Nets (9-8) (up 2) - I was ready to proclaim them super hot shit after that Phoenix win, and then they had to go and get blown out by the Wizards at home. Gross. I can't believe I actually like the Nets this year though. That backcourt. ![]() 16. Chicago Bulls (8-10) (down 2) - Had some tough games lately, Rose can probably carry them to the playoffs at this rate. I can't believe how much Lol Dang sucks this year though... he's getting like 12ppg and less than 40% shooting. Like a year ago Paxson had him as the dealbreaker in the Kobe deal... how things change. How they change indeed. As great as Rose looks though, I'll be intrigued to see if he stays a scoring PG in his career or makes the jump. Because unquestionably in history the passing ones do better. 17. Indiana Pacers (7-10) (up 5) - Were headed for a fall until that Lakers win. Rasho domination! 18. Miami Heat (9-9) (up 3) - Wade's carrying them. And it's working. Sort of. I don't know how long he can keep this up... but it's fun! 19. Charlotte Bobcats (6-11) (up 6) - Their record is bad but I'm convinced this team is better than its showing. The Augustin/Felton backcourt is starting to show its worth, JRich and Wallace are good, Okafor grabs boards and plays d, and Larry Brown is a good coach. Injuries have hurt but I think they can easily make the playoffs. 20. Milwaukee Bucks (7-12) (down 1) - Rough schedule lately. But at least Redd's back. Bucks aren't embarrasing anymore but they're not very good either. 21. Philadelphia 76ers (8-10) (down 5) - What a butt ugly basketball team. Miller/Iggy/Dalembert/Williams are only good running. Adding Brand means they have to play halfcourt ball, and they don't have a single shooter on the team. Add that to a shite coach and you have one really ugly and disappointing basketball team. 22. LA Clippers (3-14) (up 6) - With Randolph this isn't a 3-14 team, they really should've closed out the Mavs last night. But the hole is too big to climb into the playoffs now, they'd have to play like a 60 win team just to make up the hole they're in... it took too long for the new players to adjust. Next year they might be pretty good though. 23. Toronto Raptors (8-9) (down 2) - I tried but I couldn't put them any lower. This team is not good. Bosh is about 500 kilometers from being MVP worthy, he's totally coasting his ass off on the defensive end, add that to our piss poor d from Jose and getting absolutely nothing out of the wings, and it's no surprise that despite adding JO this team is actually much worse defensively than last year. Add that to teams exploiting our all of one play and our predictable feed Bosh all day strategy, and having 8 wins is honestly lucky right now, all eight were down to the wire. 8-12 is right around the corner... and then hopefully... no more Mitchell... 24. New York Knicks (8-9) (down 5) - Can't really give them credit for beating the Warriors. I like D'Antoni and I like this roster a lot more than last year, but eh. 25. Washington Wizards (3-12) (up 4) - Been playing a lot better since Jordan's firing. But you can't make up for that loss of Haywood. Wizards need better medical staff. 26. Minnesota Timberwolves (4-12) (=) - Been winning a bit more lately. Foye looks good finally. That's all. 27. Golden State Warriors (5-13) (down 4) - Three cheers for chuckmania! What a wasteful franchise... truly disgusting and disgraceful basketball this year. No idea what they're doing. 28. Sacramento Kings (5-15) (down 4) - Theus seems to be on his way out, his refusal to play the young guys will have consequences. They should just hurry up and trade Brad Miller and go into full tanking mode, if they even need it. 29. Memphis Grizzlies (4-13) (down 2) - Boy this team is ugly. Mayo and Gay are like the homeless man's Iverson and Melo this year, except there's literally no-one else on the Grizzlies roster worth a damn, or nobody is able to show it with those two guys dominating stuff. I really hope playing on this team doesn't turn Mayo into a selfish douche, the guy just looks too good. 30. Oklahoma City Thunder (2-16) (=) - They beat the Griz and I considered moving them to #29 as a result... then I decided against it. ![]() |

Psh. You give the 8th spot to the team that's tied for the second longest active streak sitting at #2 in the West after playing one of the league's hardest schedules and the most road games? They're 13-3, since starting 1-3, btw ![]() Oh, and they're the second youngest team in the league. That has to count for something. |

Week 6 Big Riser - Memphis Grizzlies Big Fall - Charlotte Bobcats 1. Boston Celtics (20-2) (up 1) - 12 straight and making it look easy... if any of these three goes for the Bulls record IMO it's the Celtics. Their d is too good. The Celtics arguably are at the peak of the powers because they have the experience of last year, but the big 3 are still in their prime. 2. Cleveland Cavaliers (19-3) (up 1) - Um, I did NOT expect the Cavs to pull off a 19-1 run early in the season and set the record for consecutive 12 point+ victories. They have the best point differential of the three and arguably look the most dominant. Only Boston's champ respect left them at top. Oh and barring an injury Lebron is an absolute lock for the MVP. It's time. 3. Los Angeles Lakers (18-3) (down 2) - I live up to my promise. Their d looked even worse this week. Losing to the Kings without Martin, squeaking out against the Suns without Bell, Diaw, and Shaq? Surprisingly Kobe is one of their biggest defensive problems lately... the guy might be getting old, as a high school player he's more like a 33 year old player in a 30 year old's body. Still one of the best but maybe not Lebron/Wade/Paul level anymore. 4. San Antonio Spurs (13-8) (=) - Don't give the West to the Lakers yet, even for the regular season. How is this team in position to win the West or come in the top 2? I thought the Spurs dynasty was dead after the way the started this season. Not. Even. Close. Spurs are eternal. 5. Utah Jazz (14-9) (=) - Same as always. Great but unhealthy. Staying alive = good job. Otherwise I don't really care. 6. New Orleans Hornets (12-6) (up 4) - Easy schedule so far, but they're getting on a roll all the same. Moving Mike James for Antonio Daniels was huge, James sucks and Daniels is probably one of the best backup PGs. Still a contender as long as they have Paul. Like San Antonio the 3 game gap between them and LA is now a lot smaller than it seemed 7. Denver Nuggets (15-7) (down 1) - Melo now holds the record for most points in a quarter ![]() 8. Dallas Mavericks (11-9) (down 1) - Well Howard's out for a while. Luckily they look pretty darn good even without him. I'd feel more confident if they won either the LA or San Antonio games, but it's hard to blame them for that. 9. Portland Trailblazers (15-8) (down 1) - Cooled down a little bit, still an amazing for having 16 of their first 21 on the road. Paging Oden's offensive game, though. 10. Orlando Magic (17-5) (up 3) - Easiest schedule in the league so far, but results are results. 17-3 in their last 20, Boston/Cleveland/LA levels. Nice win in Portland too. Still don't think they have a chance to be more than a 2nd round team, but Stan Van Gundy should get coach of the year if they win 55+ with this bench. 11. Houston Rockets (14-8) (down 2) - Losing to Memphis even when injured = yikes. Good record for the level of injuries though. 12. Phoenix Suns (13-10) (down 1) - Trading your only 2 defenders for Richardson means you have to be the best offensive team in the league or bust. Might have worked with D'Antoni still there, but now... I dunno. They should have gotten Gerald Wallace instead IMO, he'd be a great fit as a Marion like defensive SF. 13. Miami Heat (12-9) (up 5) - Wade. Is. God. 14. Detroit Pistons (11-9) (down 2) - How they only dropped 2 spot after losing to Philly, Minnesota, and Washington, proves how big the jump from the top to the middle pack is this year. But yea... yikes! 15. Atlanta Hawks (12-9) (down 1) - Rough West Coast trip. How does it feel fuckers. 16. New Jersey Nets (11-9) (down 1) - Would've looked better without the Knicks loss. Bleh whatever. 17. Chicago Bulls (10-11) (down 1) - zzzzz 18. New York Knicks (10-12) (up 6) - Continue to be better than they should. Go D'Antoni. 19. Toronto Raptors (9-12) (up 4) - Vince stats during tank: 16ppg 40% FG. Bosh stats last 5 ridiculously unenthused games (excluding tonight): 16ppg 40% FG. Uh. Oh. 20. Indiana Pacers (7-14) (down 3) - Bitching schedule so far, that's their excuse I guess. 21. Milwaukee Bucks (9-15) (down 1) - Damn the Bucks just can't get good. 22. Memphis Grizzlies (7-15) (up 7) - The best of the crap teams lately. 23. Philadelphia 76ers (9-13) (down 2) - To all the analysts who picked this team to be top 3 in the East... roflmao. ![]() 24. Washington Wizards (4-15) (up 1) - Wow they downgraded from Daniels to James to save themselves all of 150k. Cheap ass management ftw. 25. Golden State Warriors (7-15) (up 2) - "Hey, maybe signing Corey Maggette to 10 mil a year when no-one else could offer over 6 wasn't such a good idea!" Their best move would be to squeeze Bargnani out of him. Please god keep this fuck off my team. 26. Charlotte Bobcats (7-15) (down 7) - MJ has a brain aneuryism. That or Larry Brown came up with this deal and called MJ on the golf course, who said "hey... Larry Brown is a HOF coach and old. He probably knows better than me. Sure why not." 27. Sacramento Kings (6-16) (up 1) - GJ on beating the Lakers 28. LA Clippers (4-17) (down 6) - Looks like they still suck after all 29. Minnesota Timberwolves (4-17 (down 3) - Danger! Danger! Something Sam Mitchell this way comes! Babcock, McHale, and Mitchell... a winning combination. 30. Oklahoma City Thunder (2-21) (=) - Yuk yuk yuk. I <3 the Thunder |

Post subject: | Re: NBA Power Rankings Week 6 - Down goes Kobe! Down goes Kobe! |
Anddddd we're back. Not bothering with the rises and falls because it's been so long. 1. Cleveland Cavaliers – Clear #1 now after that demolition of Boston. Who’s stopping Lebron this year? I’m guessing nobody 2. Los Angeles Lakers – The Christmas win have them back on a roll. Class of the West. 3. Orlando Magic – Have to give credit where credit’s due. I’m still not sure if I believe in them in the playoffs (I’m not sure I believe in anyone in the East but the Cavs), but when you look this good, it’s top 3 for you 4. Boston Celtics – Just tired and thin. Starbury could actually make a big difference here and get them back on track. But they can’t fall too far behind for a couple reasons – Cleveland is unbeatable at home, and with the 3 seed they have a chance of playing Atlanta in the 1st round again, or if not them, Dwayne Wade. 5. San Antonio Spurs – Probably the only team not named the Lakers who can win the West. 6. Detroit Pistons – They’re getting rolling now. Stuckey is a BEAST 7. New Orleans – Sort of the bad good team. You can count on them to win most of the games they’re supposed to and put up a very good record, but their record against good teams is shardy and I don’t think anybody is remotely scared of them in the playoffs, even with Paul. Paging Tyson Chandler. 8. Denver Nuggets – Missing Melo will be tough, but they’re still excellent. 9. Phoenix Suns – Richardson has given them a nice identity and nice versatility. I don’t think they’re winning the title but they definitely look a playoff team now. 10. Utah Jazz – Keeping up with these injuries is a miracle. They have some important Gming to do over the next year or so. 11. Dallas Mavericks – They’re winning, but sort of irrelevant. Nobody’s scared of them and they don’t do anything particularly well – except choke. 12. Houston Rockets – A shaky period of games to say the least. Tmac seems disinterested. A dark horse to be traded. 13. Portland Trailblazers – Floating along. My pick to miss the playoffs though. Just too young 14. Miami Heat – Or shall I say the Miami WAAAAAAAAAAADEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS 15. Atlanta Hawks – Ugly loss to Orlando. Were down 50 at one point. IMO the most likely team to decline in the second half, they just seem like they’re playing over their heads. 16. Milwaukee Bucks – They look good. Can this be the year the Bucks are finally not shitty? Stay tuned. Scott Skiles has done a good job, I like him. 17. New Jersey Nets – Behind Milwaukee after losing to them tonight. Still the definition of pretty good though. How 7 foot and skilled Lopez got picked at 10, while unathletic undersized Kevin Love was picked at 5, by the team originally with the 3 pick, is beyond me. Call it the loveable white guy effect 18. Toronto Raptors – UNLEASH THE BEASTNANI! IT'S PASTA TIME!!! 19. Philadelphia 76ers – Surprise surprise, Igoudala’s ppg has like doubled since Brand went down and he’s been able to run. I think Chicago and Philly should just trade Igoudala and Deng to each other. Neither are fitting right now, Deng can shoot for Philly and Igoudala can run with Rose’s speed. Makes sense to me 20. Chicago Bulls – A royal mess of a lineup. This group staying around .500 earlier was miraculous. They need to blow up this group and starting putting character fit guys around Rose 21. Minnesota Timberwolves – Coach McHale, not so McFail. Randy Foye is arriving. 22. Charlotte Bobcats – Looked alright for a while but have mostly gone back to sucking. This franchise can’t leave the ground. 23. Indiana Pacers – Whoa Danny Granger is averaging close to 26ppg. I still think he’s a 3rd option on a good team. 24. New York Knicks – annnnnd the shine has worn off 25. Washington Wizards – More competitive lately. But mostly still stinky. But at least they don’t CRAB DRIBBLE. 26. Golden State Warriors – Meh whatever, I can’t say anything more above the Warriors. They’re just ugly. 27. Memphis Grizzlies – Young and crappy. Still not sold on the Gay Mayo deal. But they’ll get more picks 28. Sacramento Kings – Arco Arena went from the loudest arena in the league to the least attended. Sad. But that’s what you get when you manage like crap. The total input from the Bibby and Artest trades... uhhh, a bunch of expiring, Donte Green, and mr. Candice Parker Shelden Williams? Not good to say the least. 29. Oklahoma City Thunder – They’re playing harder lately. Durant looks like he can be a top 5 of the decade type player in the ‘10s-‘20s. 30. LA Clippers – annddddd that makes 10 in a row. Comfortable place for this franchise. |

As you point out, I don't see the Magic going far in the playoffs. The Magic fold under pressure and never seem to have any heart. I'm still not sure about the Pistons. They've got a nice winning streak going (most of them with Sheed and Rip out), but it's been against really weak teams and they've barely eeked out many of those games, including barely beating teams like the Thunder, Clippers, and Kings. I'm anxious to see them at full strength against some elite teams to gauge where they are at. The Bucks are a team that I think is much better than their record. They are going to be a playoff team this year, but won't get far. I think the Mavs will be the odd man out in the west and not make the playoffs. And, I'd agree about the Thunder... they've really looked a lot better lately. They've lost several games in the last seconds recently, and some against good teams. If they can get over the hump, then they may win close to 20 games this year. |

How about those Thunder? At this rate they may win 20 games or more! |

Post subject: | Re: NBA Power Rankings Week 6 - Down goes Kobe! Down goes Kobe! |
Week 11 Biggest riser: OKC Thunder Biggest Fall: Detroit Pistons/Toronto Raptors 1. Los Angeles Lakers (31-7) (up 1)- Looks like the top 3 (or is it 4 now?) will be playing musical chairs all year 2. Cleveland Cavaliers (30-7) (down 1) - Had #1 on lock until they decided not to show up in Chicago. That's what you get! 3. Boston Celtics (32-9) (up 1) - Hey Toronto. Thanks for giving us our groove back... that was fun, LOL. Signed, Kevin, Paulie, and Ray. 4. Orlando Magic (31-8) (down 1) - Bastards stole our single game 3 pointer record. Thanks Sacramento. 5. San Antonio Spurs (25-12) (=) - Roger Mason is god... that is, god of the and 1 leg kick out: http://www.hachisvertas.net/temp/fisher.gif 6. Denver Nuggets (27-13) (up 2) - Ok they're for real, even with Melo out. Billups is the most underrated superstar of the post MJ era... he just wins. Amazing turnaround for this franchise. 7. Phoenix Suns (22-14) (up 2) - How about the effect of medical staffs in the league? Phoenix's has flat out saved Shaq and Grant Hill, then look at Washington, or among top teams Houston and Utah. Suns look good 8. New Orleans Hornets (23-12) (down 1) - Can't decide if I'm underrating them or overrating... their record is good but still feel a little meek. I'd like to see them get super hot for a stretch to establish them as really elite 9. Utah Jazz (23-16) (up 1) - Starting to perform similar to last year now. Godly at home, "blown out by the Thunder" level of terrible on the road. 10. Portland Trailblazers (24-15) (up 3) - Doing all they need to make the playoffs. Will be big players at the deadline. Oden's play is a bit worrisome though... putting up ok numbers as a rookie big is no surprise, but he doesn't seem to have ANY offensive moves, and in college his arsenal was mostly just dunks anyways. He's a guaranteed defensive/rebounding beast but it wouldn't surprise me if he ended up more of a Mutumbo like asset (not that there's anything wrong with that). 11. Houston Rockets (24-16) (down 1) - Who needs TMac when you have Von "Chocolate" Wafer? 12. Miami Heat (21-17) (up 2) - The top 13 has been cracked by WadePower. As long as they stay close in games they can ride him to 3-5 point victories. 13. Detroit Pistons (22-15) (down 7) - Ok maybe they were just playing easy teams. I'm guessing Rip goes by the deadline. 14. Dallas Mavericks (22-17) (down 3) - Josh Howard will be moving too 15. Atlanta Hawks (23-15) (=) - Looks like they're coming down to earth, expectedly. The teams below are still worse though so they keep their decent spot. 16. Philadelphia 76ers (18-20) (up 3) - Can Elton Brand come back already? I don't like the Sixers winning so much. As a division rival I prefer the butt ugly halfcourt Sixers! 17. Chicago Bulls (18-22) (up 3) - They look surprisingly decent lately without Larry Hughes coming in and screwing up their backcourt rotation/chemistry. Captain Kirk has energized them a bit it seems. Might be a better choice going forward than Ben Gordon 18. Milwaukee Bucks (19-22) (down 2) - Definition of inconsistent. Win loss win loss win loss. 19. New Jersey Nets (19-21) (down 2) - I'd enjoy it if they started dieing. Taking this losing streak to 5 after vs Boston, @ San Antonio, @ New Orleans would be a great place to start! 20. Charlotte Bobcats (15-24) (up 2) - I still think they're kind of good. They're behind in the playoff race but with a good streak... 21. Indiana Pacers (14-25) (up 2) - Poor TJ Ford. Benched again. That makes 3 times in 3 teams. As for the team, they'll start doing better, Mike Dunleavy, Jr. looks good in his return so far 22. Oklahoma City Thunder (7-33) (up 7) - They're bringing it lately. Russell Westbrook has all-nba superstar, not just all-star, potential. This will be one of the best drafts ever. 23. Minnesota Timberwolves (11-26) (down 2) - Not really buying the Timberwolves revitilized stuff, the teams they beat were pretty easy. I'd say OKC is the more definitive good bad team. But still nice run for them. Love is better than I thought. 24. New York Knicks (15-22) (=) - The Isiah era may be over, but its comedy will never die! I don't know what's funnier, the lawsuit against Eddy Curry ("Come and touch it Dave"), or Isiah's brother getting arrested for peeing in a church. 25. Toronto Raptors (16-24) (down 7) - Total cost of PGs for the team: 10 mil. Total cost of SGs: 4 mil. Total cost of SFs - 10 mil. Total cost of PFs - 43 mil. Total cost of Cs - 800k. Having a worse record than the tanking Knicks: Priceless. 26. Sacramento Kings (10-30) (up 2) - Alright guys, our next matchup is against Orlando. They're quite possibly one of the most lethal 3 pointing teams the league has seen. I have an idea... we'll play zone! 27. Memphis Grizzlies (11-27) (=) - I don't know what to say about them. They're just bad. Rudy Gay is an overrated me first blackhole good stats bad team chucker. Oh yea. I went there. 28. Golden State Warriors (11-29) (down 2) - Here's how much Jamal Crawford neglects and avoids defence. He played over 60 minutes in the triple overtime game last night and didn't pick up a single foul! 29. Washington Wizards (7-31) (down 4) - tank tank tank tank tank 30. LA Clippers (8-30) (=) - Where the worst sports franchise ever happens |

Post subject: | Re: NBA Power Rankings Week 11 - Kobe retakes the throne |
A few points about some of the teams here: The Former Supersonics – Wow, I really like the future of this team. They have a superstar and potential top 50 of all time player in Durant. They have a future potential all-star and maybe superstar in Westbrook. And they have a potential all-star in Jeff Green. Green has improved enormously from last season. He's playing incredibly well and acts as a great second man to Durant right now. Westbrook is a little erratic as times, but he has shown that he has some great stuff in him. And Durant is playing much better than last year. If they can continue improving like this, they will be a fearsome threesome in the future. If they can get a formidable big man and a good 2-guard, look out in the future. Pacers - Quoting the Sports Guy – "Reason No. 12,363 why I love the NBA: The thought of Larry Bird drunk-dialing Otis Smith and asking, "Hey, Otis, I wanted to see if you guys had any interest in trading me the rights to Fran Vazquez for Danny Granger" before giggling and hanging up." Also from the Sports Guy - Reason No. 12,352 why I love the NBA: All the teams that stupidly passed on Danny Granger three summers ago, which was moronic at the time and seems 10 times dumber now that he's lighting it up under Obie. Anyway, I heard a great story once about Larry Bird discussing a 2005 draft-day trade with another GM in which the Pacers would have traded down from No. 17, but when the Raptors took Joey Graham at No. 16, Bird squealed in delight and screamed, "I gotta go; we're gonna get Danny Granger!" Then he hung up on the guy." Oh how true that is. Bulls – Blow up the team. Everyone's at risk except Rose. Blow it up. It's not like you're going anywhere with what you have. Nuggets – Ahhh, my good old Nuggets. It's so great to see them win and play well together and actually be happy. If the team can stay healthy the rest of the year and Melo can come back from his hand and elbow injuries, I really think we are the 3rd best team in the West. The Hornets are struggling this year and have to rely solely on Paul (though that may be enough). The Rockets are injured plagued. The Mavericks are playing better but still haven't recovered from where they were. The Jazz are playing well but have also had to battle injury. Portland is a wildcard, but they are still very young and inexperienced. And Phoenix is getting older and slower (though Shaq has been rejuvenated) and isn't the same without Mikey D. Obviously the Spurs and Lakers are above us and would definitely beat us in a 7 game series. Nonetheless it's great to watch Nuggets basketball. Previously I wouldn't stay up past 10 or 11pm to watch any late basketball games since I have to get up early and go to work. Lately though I've enjoyed the tired sensation at work knowing that I watched the Nuggets win. Ahhh, good times. I'm 99% sure we won't get close to winning a title, but that's ok. 2nd round of the playoffs is all I ask. |
