Bonds has 11 home runs this season. He needs 10 to tie, and 11 to get the record for most home runs of all time.

I don't think we've ever discussed this topic before. But how do you feel about Bonds becoming the all time home run leader?

I'm one of the few that are supporting him.

I also support him... He may have juiced up, but he'll still be the all-time leader. He's having a helluva year for being so old.

We should do day bets. I'll say June 3rd for breaking it.

Im more opposed to him beating the record on account of the numerous accounts that he is an asshole.

Im not sure if he's juiced up or not, so that really isn't part of my thought process here. I always thought people could bulk up normally...

I'm with Squee on this one... I've always thought of Barry as a jack-hole... way, way before anything about steroids came into the picture. I always heard stories of him being a gigantic dick to fans and the press. I just don't like him.

As for the steroid issue, I think that falls entirely onto MLB. They turned their head to years of steroid abuse by the players and now want to put a surprised face on and act indignant about it when they allowed it and by all accounts knew it was taking place. They're the dill-holes for allowing it to happen.

I'm not saying that Barry, Mark, Sammy, Jose, etc... shouldn't have known better themselves, but if MLB wanted to step in they could have a LONG time ago and put a stop to it. Instead they were enjoying the home run derby too much to stop the show.

I hope he either breaks it against a big name pitcher, preferably Schilling (playing Red Sox on Jun 15-17) or Clemens (Yankees on 22-24), otherwise Greg Maddux or Randy Johnson the following week. I think his home-run pace will slow down as he gets closer to the record since pitchers will be more careful, especially the less-known ones, so there is a chance.

I can't believe I'm saying this but..........

A-Rod. Stay young and keep hitting home runs. Hopefully 10 years from now Bonds will become obsolete.

I hope Schilling's the pitcher when he breaks it in Boston.

I don't get why pitchers are even throwing him balls he can hit. I can't imagine they even think it's right to have the most prized record in baseball broken by a person who admitted using steroids but not knowing they were steroids in addition to being a jackass and otherwise unpleasant personality. Now, if Barry Bonds had avoided the whole steroid issue rather than embrace it more fans, players and sportswriters would be for him since he was a truly great consistent player before he had to turn to synthetics to make him better. Oh well. He'll break the record and get his cheers but one day his dumb record will broken by someone who didn't have to resort to being a low down dirty cheat and liar.

How long has he been stuck on 746 now? And so much for breaking the record against Boston, unless he has a major lift this week against the Blue Jays.

When he is one away, I hope every pitcher beans him as hard as he can while everyone else on and off the fields applauds them.

I grew up in the bay and have always disliked Bonds ( really though, I dont like either the Giants or 49ers ) As stated Bonds has always been a shite head to begin with, if he was a great guy or people had tremendous respect for him as a human being to begin with then the roids crap would've probably not entirely blown over but wouldnt be as big as it was for him, but the thing is people outside of SF didnt particually like him to begin with. He's a selfish guy, it's never about the team it's always about Barry and he will never change.

I met Bonds and held a conversation with him, albeit a brief one, at a local club he showed up at. He was nothing but nice, totally different than how I had thought of him before.

I was one of the first people to recognize him and go up and drunkenly introduce myself, but even hours after I had left, the guy was still casually talking to random drunk people who would come up and want to talk to him. He was about as nice as nice could be.

Did he do steroids, no doubt about it, but I still will be happy when he breaks the record. He was a great player without steroids, and an even better one with them. He wasn't the only player doing it, it's the steroid era for a reason, and baseball is to blame for their utter lack of self-policing regarding the matter. They turned their backs and pretended nothing was going on, Barry and most other players did what was natural. I really don't blame them, I blame the idiots who STILL juice up today, after MLB has finally done something.

Go Barry, enjoy your last season!

I'm in agreement with Eagle.

I'm rooting for him. And he doesn't seem like a mean guy to me. Unlike most other athletes.

yeah same thing i say about mcgwire:

90% of the baseball steroid users are PITCHERS because its far more competive. How many homers did big mac or barry hit off roid users them selves?

I can't believe how many americans are willing to look away when it comes to steroids/doping, no matter in which sport, be it Baseball, Football, Cycling or Track & Field.

You sure about that? If it wasn't for the alleged steroid use by Bonds, people would be rooting for him like there was no tomorrow to break the record. There would be more hype about it, instead of a couple of brief mentions on Sportscenter. Once he breaks it, it'll be forgotten very quickly, and Bonds will just float away and retire.

And we're willing to look away from the steroid use in Cycling and Track & Field because no one gives a shit about them over here. ;)
