Yeah they've built the match really well. Especially coming out of Chamber where people were ready to rebel against it. Hope they get the main event of night one.

This always felt right to me. The short term gain of adding Sami to the Mania match and possibly having him win would fizzle out too fast. KO and Sami taking the titles off The Usos makes sense. Rumour is Charlotte and Rhea headline night one which I really hope doesn't happen. It's not even the better of the two women's title matches if that's what they're aiming for.

I would love to know how much of The Bloodline story has been Triple H. I know this started under Vince's watch but I don't think it really took off until H took over. Whoever is most heavily involved in it deserves all the praise for crafting such a storyline in today's wrestling. Nothing is coming close to matching its length and scope. Lots of great shorter term stories in the last ten years but this one has been going potentially since 2020, if they circle back to the original Jey Uso story.

Which brings me to a painful realization I finally came to this week. This was the first time I genuinely thought Cody will lose. I don't want it because I want those titles freed up. But I also feel they've dropped some hints about Jey and Roman. And it would make sense if the Usos lost, Roman will take it out on Jimmy and especially Jey, which could re-ignite their storyline. Would be interesting to pull off. Not sure how it will work but definitely interesting.

So they've got four giant stadium shows in a row after this. So if Cody wins, what are the main events of these shows? Seth, Sami, KO, Brock and Drew McIntyre all are faces. Cody already beat Finn Balor on Raw a few weeks ago. Randy Orton would be perfect but who knows when he is coming back. Will John Cena stick around? Is Theory ready for that type of match? In Puerto Rico maybe they could have a lesser match with the resolution to the Mysterio storyline being the real main event? Then Gunther in London and Lashley at Summerslam? I dunno.

Meanwhile with Roman they could just do Cody rematch, Seth Rollins in London and Jey at Summerslam.

...Ugh. Will still be rooting for Cody though! Gotta complete the story!

I didn't know I needed CM Punk calling Jericho a liar and a stooge yesterday but it made my day.

Vince paid back $17.2mil from his sex scandal to WWE.

Something tells me they only investigated him becaus ehe paid with WWE money and not his own.

That's exactly why they investigated him. It's the same reason that Trump is being investigated for the Story Daniels payments. There's no law against payign a woman to not tell people you had sex, but there is a law that says you can't use company or campaign money to do it.

AEW Backstage once again the hottest show of the week. Punk must have actually been close to coming back if Jericho and the Bucks are leaking things about him. :hahaha:

A+ show! Honestly one of my all time favorites. The finish to the main event was like watching Coco.

I'm still upset and can't believe they fooled me again. Went from thinking "this is one the best Wrestlemanias ever!" to "Why do I watch this shit?"

But hey everyone knows that Roman is the greatest now as if his thousands of other big match victories hadn't already confirmed that.

IF he does retain at Wrestlemania (it seems so surreal that I am having this argument for the third consecutive Mania), I have to assume it's going to be Jey Uso that beats him, if they want to go for the satisfying storyline conclusion. I just don't know how you transition Jey into a big main event role, because he's so tied to being a tag team guy.

This has to be it now, right? They freed The Usos of the titles to do this, right? Right?!

The problem is, it doesn't happen until at least Summerslam. We're getting 1000 days. Doesn't it feel like a letdown to have it not be at Wrestlemania though?

Wrestlemania XL, here we come.

I'm gutted at the news coming out of WWE this week. If Vince is back in complete charge, this is absolute worst case scenario for everyone involved. As much as I wanted to believe Triple H was in charge for good, I knew it was too good to be true. Stephanie McMahon knew. I'm assuming Bray Wyatt knows. Bayley knows. LA Knight knows. Jay White knows. So many know what this means.

Unlike two years ago, there is no plan B. AEW is not the answer anymore. Just ask Miro what it's like going to AEW.

I feel like we're at a really, really bad place right now. Even if they continue the charade of Triple H running creative, we'll know in the coming weeks if it's true or not. The RAW After Mania didn't have that RAW After Mania feel. It had a frantic, haphazard feel of the worst of any Vince era.

For all his faults, Triple H's creative direction felt like everyone had some sort of hope going forward. I also feel for the NXT people just waiting to make the jump to RAW or Smackdown. Bron Breakker is going to come to the main roster with dog ears on. Indi Hartwell will come without a last name. Grayson Waller will come without a first name.

There are so many ways this is going to go badly, and likely worse than we can imagine. I hate to be so negative on this, but a man with dyed hair and moustache, looking like a porn star version of Clark Gable is going to ruin his own company. Again.

Yeah with the exception of a few people (Mox, FTR, Saraya) most WWE wrestlers ended up in the same spot on the card as they had in WWE. I'm sure Miro, Malakai, Andrade, Keith Lee, Claudio, etc... all expected that they'd be pushed straight to the top when they joined. But Tony mostly just uses them to get the AEW originals over.

If Drew Mcintyre lets his contract expire his best bet would probably be a short run in New Japan. Even then, the highest spot he will get is losing to Okada in a big match, so it's basically the same for him there too.

I enjoyed Mania quite a lot.

Night 1 was very good, and while the Owens/Zayne vs Usos main event was great, I thought Rhea/Charlotte stole the show. It started off slow, but gradually built to an incredible final 5-10 mins or so. Pretty easy candidate for greatest women's match I think in WWE history. People can hate on Charlotte all they want, but when she delivers, she does it unlike any other WWE female superstar. Her best is just on another level, and it's why she's at the peak. And Rhea proved she deserves to be on top during the match too.

Night 2 wasn't as good, but Gunther/Drew/Sheamus was amazing. Bianca/Asuka was pretty good, and I figured Bianca was going to win. Their "feud" was pretty awful, and it definitely seemed like they pulled the plug on any possible Asuka win in the final couple weeks. Asuka has a super impressive list of achievements in WWE, but her 0-5 Mania streak is unfortunate. Edge/Balor was also pretty good, it's just too bad Balor got injured during the match. Turned out not to be too serious, but it probably changed how the match was going to go. I will say that Edge going over was, IMO, the only truly bad call of the entire weekend. Balor needs some Ws, and getting one here as the Demon would have helped his character. This is the second straight loss the Demon has had...

So... Roman/Cody. I was pretty much resigned to believe Cody was going to win here, and was genuinely surprised when he didn't. This will probably go down as one of the most questionable calls ever, but... I agreed with Roman winning. The Bloodline storyline is just too good to end still, and I get the "Cody already went through his redemption arc by leaving, coming back, etc., and having him go through it in 2023 is pointless and spoiled his moment." I just think Roman on top allows for a lot more story, good story (the best WWE has had in many years), to be told. I don't think its run its course yet. If it ends up resulting in a rematch at Mania 40 with Cody coming out on top, cool. If it ends up coming full circle with Jey beating Reigns at Mania 40, I think this might be even better and be a more fitting "end" to the Bloodline story.

Someone must REALLY hate Vince McMahon. So much so that every week it seems there's a new lawsuit or controversy plaguing him. Sure seems like someone REALLY wants Vince to step away completely. Hopefully one of these will sink him and he can retire for good.

I'll admit, AEW managing to sell 50,000 seats in pre-sales alone for All-In London is super impressive. Wembley can seat up to 90,000 I believe, and even if they don't hit max, they're probably doing WrestleMania-level attendance of 75,000/80,000.

Makes me wonder if WWE will consider international WrestleMania's in the future.

I didn't have the foresight to predict AEW doing so well, but I imagine a lot of fans over there are dying to see them live, and the decision to pick Wembley Stadium is also proving to be a winner. They've made it sound like a major spectacle. I hope they deliver on the card.

I don't see them having adequate time to build a story, but it would be huge if they had Punk and Omega have a match there. Obviously they're pushing the "Punk and The Elite have no desire to speak with each other" narrative, but it would be a big deal if that happened. I'd imagine what we're actually going to get is Punk and Jericho, which is good too.

Who was the last person to have as much heat as Dominik? He's getting major reactions every week, and tonight's Smackdown (Puerto Rico) may have been the loudest audience reaction anyone has received in who knows how long.

Author:  Mister Ecks [ Sat May 06, 2023 1:19 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Wrestling (WWE, IMPACT, NXT, AEW)

They have to figure out how to translate Dom's heat outside of the Rey storyline. I'm sure it'll continue as long as he's a heel, but Dominik is still a tad green. When he finally gets words out, he can stumble a bit. He would also sink without the Judgment Day and especially Rhea. There's going to come a time when Rhea outgrows the storyline.

I like Heel Dominik a lot, I just hope he could get the same type reactions if he's feuding with other faces.

I haven't actually watched any wrestling the last month since Roman pinned Cody. I know that wasn't AEWs fault but it was kinda nice to have a break from it.

That being said, I'm really looking forward to seeing Bad Bunny's match tonight. I read that he got a "Stone Cold" level pop when he made the big save on Smackdown. I'd rather he faced Dom, the heat would be insane, but I dunno if Dom is ready to carry a celebrity match. This will be a big moment for Damian Priest to prove he can be a reliable guy who brings in big money. If he gets a high quality match of Bunny then I definitely see the favor being returned at the next Puerto Rico show. He might even be in line to win the Not-Roman's Title.
