SAN DIEGO (AP) - A new decade for Tiger Woods looks a lot like the last one - making clutch putts, letting his opponents break down and hoisting the trophy at a golf course that feels as if it's home.

Woods made an 8-foot birdie on the 18th hole Sunday to get into a three-way playoff, then won the Buick Invitational with simple pars as Australian rookie Nathan Green and two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal made crucial mistakes.

Olazabal, playing a splendid bunker shot on the par-3 16th, missed a 4-foot par putt on the second extra hole to hand Woods a victory that was only easy at the end.

Tiger Woods turned 30 on Friday, finishing off one of the most dominant decades in golf history. Woods' 20s included 46 PGA Tour victories, 10 major championships, seven PGA Tour Player of the Year awards and superstar status on and off the course. Which begs the question: Will his 30s be even better?

VICTORIES

Woods has 46 official PGA Tour wins, the most for any player between the ages of 20-29.

Jack Nicklaus had 30 wins before turning 30; Gene Sarazen, Horton Smith and Sam Snead each had 27. Snead went on to win 82 times -- the career standard. Nicklaus has 73 career wins, Ben Hogan 64, Arnold Palmer 62, Byron Nelson 52 and Billy Casper 51.

Woods also has the most wins after 100 starts, with 28. Nicklaus had 17, and Ken Venturi had 10.

MAJORS

Woods has won 10 professional major championships, the most for any player between the ages of 20-29. His victories consist of four Masters, two U.S. Opens, two British Opens and two PGAs. Woods is the only player to win the four professional majors in succession.

Nicklaus won eight majors before turning 30 and went on to win 10 more after 30. He is the career leader with 18 -- six Masters, four U.S. Opens, three British Opens and five PGAs. Walter Hagen is second on the career list with 11 majors-two U.S. Opens, four British Opens and five PGAs.

MONEY

No contest here. Woods, whose emergence changed the financial landscape of golf, has nearly $56 million in PGA Tour earnings, easily the most by any player between 20-29. Next on the career list is Vijay Singh, with more than $44 million.

To show you how things have changed, one must go all the way down the career list to No. 114 to find Nicklaus, who has made $5.7 million. Neal Lancaster has earned more.

AFTER 30

There is good reason to believe Woods will continue his dominance and wind up owning all of the career marks.

For instance, Nicklaus had his best run of golf shortly after his 31st birthday. From 1971 to 1973, he won 19 times, including four majors. Nicklaus won six majors after turning 35, and three after turning 40 - including the 1986 Masters at age 46.

Between the ages of 30-35, Arnold Palmer captured 31 of his 62 PGA Tour titles. Of his seven major championships, "The King" won six after blowing out 30 candles. And that's to say nothing of Singh, who has 20 wins and two majors since turning 37.

If Tiger was a bit more consistent, he would absolutely destroy the record books. Imagine if he was actually on his game from 02-04, where he won zilch. He'd probably have 15 or 16 majors right now, almost beating Jack before turning 30.
