So I was informed by my A.D. today that our baseball division has gone to wood bats. Last year a pitcher on St. Mary's (team in our division) got hit with a comebacker and his face got to put it bluntly messed up. So they made the jump to wood bats and for me it's great because I only pitch. What's your stance on wood vs. aluminum bats? What age/level should a league switch from aluminum to wood? |

I've always thought aluminum bats were more dangerous, simply because the ball jumps off the bat more quickly. And like you mentioned with that picture, if it's directly at someone.......look out. I've also seen a couple of accidents with people flinging aluminum bats off to side just after they have hit the ball, and ended up striking someone. Even though wooden bats are still dangerous, aluminum is more dangerous. There also shouldn't be a transition. Aluminum bats shouldn't exist. The kids who play little league baseball, and want to persue their career in baseball past that are eventually going to have to get use to wooden bats, so why not just use them from the start? |
