Can someone explain the lottery balls to me? I don't get it. So, they count down backwards from 30 to 1. And then once your team is read, you no longer have a shot at the number one pick. BUT...there were four teams that had 3 balls in the lottery. So how is that fair to them. Shouldn't they have counted number one first? Isn't that the advantage of having three balls in the lotter? I don't get it.

from what i understand...

certain teams are grouped depending on their record in 2003, the pens were one of the worst teams in the NHL that last year and they had more balls in the lottery.

from what i understand is that only the top 10 had more than one ball. but once the top ten were read, the extra balls were thrown in there. i think the rangers had more than one ball, but they were unlucky enough to actually get picked 15th.

the pens had three balls in the lottery at the first pick while anaheim had two.

See, that makes sense...but that is not how it worked. I listened to it on the FAN 590 in Toronto, and once the name of the team was read, they were no longer in the running. So that is why it doesn't make any sense to me.

Pittsburgh has been a favorite to be for quite some time, so I HOPE he can help them. I understand he's from the same province I live in, but I'm not certain on that. We also send Marc Andre Fleury to Pittsburgh two years ago as a goalie, but he didn't help much. He's from where I live, too. All my hometown hockey players are going to the Pens!

It depended on playoff appearances in the past couple of years. Every team gets 1 shot at getting the number 1 pick. The leafs were in the playoffs for nearly every season in the last couple of years so evidently they don't get more of a shot. The penguins haven't been in the playoffs for a while so for every missing season they get 1 extra chance. Hope that helped you out.

I'm just happy that there's gonna be a challenge for teams now. Leafs are still gonna kick some major ass though.

It feels great. Hockey is my true love sport and it's great having good hockey conversations with people. Gets me relaxed.
