Nebs wrote: Gee, Levy, who is *not* doping in these Olympics then? Come on, man. EVERY 100 meter winner, male or female, who won a race by that distance got caught with doping. Ben Johnson, Tim Montgomery, Marion Jones... You are blinded by success. There are studies that no man can run below 10.0 without help. I wouldn't go so far, but below 9.8 is a joke. Everyone who believes it's possible is lying to themselves. There are countries who don't make an effort to stop doping, mainly Russia, China and the US. The controls are ridiculous compared to what western european athlets have to endure. (with the exception of Greece obviously) And on top of that: Those are the countries with the best medical support. I'm happy to say that german Track & Field and Swimming has gotten pretty clean compared to 10-15 years ago. As a result of that they don't win many medals since other countries like your beloved US of A have never made an effort to stop doping. Track & Field, Swimming, Cycling, Cross Country skiing are infested because you can make so much money with it. Oddly enough, I think the decathlon is one of the "cleaner" disciplines because the mix of disciplines doesn't allow you to get too much in one direction (endurance/strength)

Re: Official Summer Olympics 2008 Thread
Another proof that the Olympics have become a joke: The tunisian swimmer who won gold over 1500 is a caught cheater who should have been banned til the end of the year but was released early. They say they wanna fight doping but they never do.

Yeah the Brits Aussies will have to pick up our game - cant be beaten by the Poms!! But kudos to the Brits - wiped the smirk of the face of Coates after his comments. As for Levy - he does have a valid point. It seems there is no conistency in managing drug cheats and its all done to suit certain countries. But overall im not as cynical.

Everyone in Portugal is watching the women's Triathlon hoping that Vanessa Fernandes wins; i think she's their only medal hopeful. So my half portuguese self is hoping that she wins and that a Canadian also medals.

Not a fan of NBC's decision to spend another hour on Phelps in its prime time coverage today. They're trying to milk everything out of it as much as possible and doing it at a sacrifice of other ongoing and exciting events.

Jamaica wins the Olympics!
Shouldn't Trinidad be in there somewhere? They got a medal and only have 1m people. And Zimbabwe got several medals.

Wow. What a big blow to China - Liu Xiang out due to injury. A shame too, I wanted to see him do well. They just announced it on NBC, I want to find a better article because that doesn't really say too much about the withdrawl.

Fuck. That just hurts. It's the right foot that has bothered him since May.
Trammell is out too. What a bummer for such a highly anticipated event.

I just saw it right now He hurt his right ankle while preparing... The crowd went silent and then took off when he left the hurdles after a false start where he looked like he was in a lot of pain. Wow... talk about pressure from 91,000 spectators.
