Where did you find that Damon joined the Yankees? They have nothing about it on MLB.com, and according to the Red Sox website, they have set a deadlne for him on January 8.

I am shocked.
And he only got 52 million for 4 years. Red Sox couldnt offer that?

I was hoping the White Sox would get him.
We need a new left fielder.

I'd much rather have Coco Crisp or Torii Hunter, at this point, than Johnny Damon. If he wanted a contract for two years, that's one thing, but four years is too long for a 32 year old center fielder, who already doesn't have the best of arms. He'll help the Yankees at the top of the batting order, but do they really need more offense?
As for the Sox, as long as they get someone at shortstop - doesn't have to be a superstar - and either Coco or Torii, they'll be in good shape. Also, if they end up getting Millwood (In talks)............
Schilling
Beckett
Millwood
Clement
Wakefield
I wouldn't mind having that rotation.
And Pedro's poor toe.

This has nothing to do with the hot stove, but my local sportstation is re-airing the post-season run of my beloved White Sox.
They just showed game 2 of the ALCS, and let me tell you, folks, Josh Paul did NOT catch that ball before it hit the ground.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
In an effort to make sure our team does not make the playoffs this year, good ole Shap is gonna trade the best name in baseball, Coco Crisp, to the Red Sox for another fucking prospect, Marte. Welcome to third place Cleveland .

I know you're not going to believe me, but I'll say it anyways. That's a good deal for both teams. Marte is one of the best prospects in the league. Marte will probably benefit more in Cleveland than he would in Boston.
Theo hasn't been back more than a week and he's already making deals. Nice.

Marte's gonna be great down the line. Good trade for both teams, Sox short-term, Indians long-term. I don't know how well Crisp is gonna be able to play CF though. It's tough to get adjusted at Fenway.
My fun is gonna see how Red Sox Nation and Peter Gammons twist this trade. All I've heard for monthes is how great Marte is gonna be and how he'll be a better 3B than A-Rod in the future. Looks like the Sox didn't think too much of him.

But we're not supposed to be building a team for the years to come. We've been doing that since 2001. We want to be contenders this year, not in 2008.

Who in Red Sox nation was dumb enough to say that Marte was going to be as good as A-Rod in the future? We have Mike Lowell goddamnit!
As for the Sox not thinking highly of Marte, I think they did. However they needed a CF and leadoff hitter badly, so I think they were willing to part with him to get that immediate need.

Gammons has been known to have his good days and his bad days. Marte will most likely be good, but not the second coming of A-Rod.

Very odd trade for Cleveland. I mean, you have Sizemore and Crisp and Casey Blake, so you have a set, talented, young outfield, and you break it up to get Andy Marte? It's like the Boston GM was telling Shapiro "Come onnnnn, I really NEEEED a centerfielder! Pleeeeeeeeeeeease???" and he was like "alllllright, I guess you can have Coco. But we want somebody who may or may not hit .300 with 15-20 hr's 15-20 SB's like Coco did...I mean, what fun is baseball if you can't trade a proven young player for somebody about 2 years younger who's unproven?"
Fantastic trade for the Red Sox though...Coco Crisp is in many ways a lot like Damon...he'll be a huge hit in Boston, you just know they'll be t-shirts, "Coco Puffs" or something equally as catchy that will become part of the national consciousness because everything Boston gets insane amount of publicity.
(oh, and I'm not a Boston hater, in fact I like the Red Sox, but I absolutely can't stand the East Coast bias. Maybe one day the East Coast Sports Programming Network aka ESPN, will focus on a team outside of the E.C. or L.A. but I wouldn't hold my breath...)

YES! According to the Akron Beacon Journal and two Philadelphia sources, Guillermo Mota failed his physical with the Indians today and this could short circuit the Red Sox bid to get Coco Crisp. I am so happy, i don't want the tribe to lose Crisp. This doesn't mean the deal is off but it is a major stumbling block for the Red Sox.

Now it looks Cinci wants in on the deal. That would give us Austin Kearns and Andy Marte.
I like this deal a lot more. We could still trade Rhodes for Michaels and make our outfield pretty good. That would weaken our bullpen, but maybe we could sign another middle reliever or two.
