Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
And Federer d. Djokovic: 7-6 7-6 6-4
Saving 5 set points in the first set and two in the second, and down 0-40 mid third set.
And Federer wasn't even playing Federer like. Congrats on his 12th Major.

Hingis retires again...Oh and may have done cocaine at Wimbledon. She was never really going to get deep into another major anyway. Unless she had a Myskina like 04 French Open.

Good riddance, i say. Although watching her lose every week did have a certain charm.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open 07
The weather should be nice next week - mid 20s (celsius) all week and only one day over 30 degrees. Contrast that with the past two days of opressive 42 degree (110 farenht) heat Hopefully i can cath the open for one day or night atleast. Thanks for the links to the draws

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '08
Another year, another tennis season of Federer winning three majors and a shitload of other tournaments but being unable to capture the Grand Slam because Nadal is godly on clay. Yawn.

Even though he wins everything, everytime Federer wins a major I get excited because of the records he's smashing. Plus I love the guy, he's very fun to watch even though you know the outcome.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '08
Federer on the Men's uhhhh...... Sharapova on the Woman's.
Who cares about the woman's side, though, it's time to start the quest towards the grand slam for Federer yet again. Hopefully by the end of this year he is going for the year grand slam...

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '08
I think someone is going to upset Federer this year. He's had practically no preperation going into the Aussie open i think someone will take him by surprise (or maybe that is just wishfull thinking!).
I agree with AgentX about Venus winning, hopefully she can stop Henin. Also nice to see you've picked Murray for the Semis, if he can stay injury free this is going to be a great year for him. YTough first round draw against Tsonga though.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '08
What a horribly played but drama filled third set, that saw:
J. Jankovic [3] d. T. Paszek 2-6 6-2 12-10
After saving three match points.
I don't think Serena, who won earlier 6-3 6-3, will be nervous about a potential QF meaning with Jelena who had some back issues in that long third set.
Justine also won 6-2 6-2, but it was closer than the scoreline suggests.
Okay, so no more predictions on my end. Murray went out in 4. That quarter is wide open for someone to get through.

2 mild upsets today on the womens side.
The 10th seeded Marion Bartoli got eliminated in three, and the 16th seeded Dinara Safina also went out today.

This I was unaware of:
If Nadal wins the title, and Federer loses before the SF, then Nadal becomes the new number one.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '08
I'm pretty sure Nadal has also won the most tournaments the last couple years, he plays and dominates a lot of the smaller events and Federer just takes the majors. I just found out like yesterday that Mauresmo is playing in this tournament. Why am I not surprised Davenport was mentioned and praised 10 times an hour for her comeback, while Amelie doesn't even get her name dropped.

She withdrew from the US Open but played the other 3. Had her appendix taken out early in the year, withdrew from US Open due to lack of fitness.
