 Re: World Cup 2018
Very pleased Nigeria beat Iceland 2-0. One thing I love about Nigeria (and actually most of the black African countries) is that when they score they genuinely show happiness and celebration, instead of the anger and celebration, which is what most other countries do.

 Re: World Cup 2018
England's next versus Panama. I mean, it should be an easy win for England, but we are known to underestimate opposition, so I expect a hard game. If we don't win, the chances of progressing out of the group stages will be slim because our next game is Belgium, who are fantastic.

INGERLAND! INGERLAND! INGERLAND! It's coming home. It's coming home. It's coming ... football's coming home! And Harry Kane now top goalscorer at the world cup so far. Even more than Ronaldo.

So Russia's luck ran out. Uruguay are the real deal. Hope they get to the semi finals.

 Re: World Cup 2018
Seems the only teams in this year's world cup to be consistently good (so far) are Uruguay and England. Spain and Portugal really should not be drawing (and nearly losing) against the likes of fucking Iran and Morocco. Pathetic.

Didn't Uruguay not win their first game?
I think England indeed, and Belgium are impressing the most so far.

 Re: World Cup 2018
Uruguay have 9 points so they must've won it.
Oh yes, Belgium too.

 Re: World Cup 2018
Ah yeah indeed, in their game against Russia, they played with 11v10 for the most part of the game, and Egypt and Saudia Arabia they beat just 1-0. The 9 points is still impressive, but I would not be too sure yet about putting any sleeper money on Uruguay.

 Re: World Cup 2018
lol. I wasn't claiming Uruguay will win it all. Just said that they are one of the only teams to be consistently good. Whereas the big boys (Brazil, Argentina, Spain) have not really done anything special. I don't class Portugal as a big boy either. They're a 1-player team. Much like Argentina too, but I feel Argentina have greater class throughout.

 Re: World Cup 2018
So now Argentina face France in the next round. They could have been facing Denmark if they actually pulled their act together. Croatia now has a much better chance to get to the quarter finals. So far, every QT clash is mouth-watering, and I do not want to miss one.
Portugal - Uruguay France - Argentina Spain - Russia Croatia - Denmark

 Re: World Cup 2018
I was thinking why the Chinese are so bad at football, and it has to be attitude. It's not funding or exposure to the game. Viewership from this world cup tells you that the Chinese love football and really want to be good at it, and it is played here. And it's certainly not population. If Switzerland, a country with only 8 million people, can rank as the 6th best team in the world, China (1.4 billion) has no excuses. It also cannot be GDP or wealth. Some of the world's best football players learned their craft on the streets. Football itself is seen as a thugs game, not tied to money or class at all like other sports such as rugby. It has to be attitude. Despite what the Chinese want people to think (one of the many lies that the Chinese tell us and themselves) about being communist, working together, helping the family, being the community ... it's all bullshit. Chinese are the most selfish humans on the planet, which is why they excel at one-player sports like table tennis, snooker, swimming, gymnastics, and diving, and why they suck at team sports like football. They just have no idea how to operate as any unit more than 2 people, which is why they will never be good at football no matter how much money they throw at it.

 Re: World Cup 2018
And I think women here have shown to be able to excel against other nation's teams, but any men's teams just continuously keep ranking in the bottom half.

 Re: World Cup 2018
Yeah. Good point, and one that I feel fuels my argument even more. Women are naturally more team-playing. They raise families and have to consider other people ALL THE TIME. Whereas the men, ugh. Useless.

 Re: World Cup 2018
So it's half-time and both are 0-0. But if Germany draws with South Korea and Sweden beat Mexico, Germany go out of the world cup. I'm hoping this happens, but Germany have pretty much been all over South Korea. They've just been a bit clumsy when it comes to actually getting the goal (and South Korea are defending as if their lives depended on it). If I were Mexico, I'd let Sweden win just to knock out Germany. That only will happen, though, if Germany draws or loses to South Korea. If they win, they'll go through no matter what happens in the other game.

 Re: World Cup 2018
Germany is out. Such a poor German side. If they can't get a goal passed South Korea, then they don't deserve to go to the quarter finals. Sweden and Mexico progress, quite rightly. South Korea were impenetrable. And those last two goals were great. South Korea 2 - 0 Germany is a scoreline I never thought I'd see.

 Re: World Cup 2018
Next round is not yet the quarter finals. After tomorrow, there will be 16 teams remaining, so they have to play the eight-finals (or whatever it is called) first.
