I would have liked it better if they had gotten a proven #1 guy, like Cujo or Luongo. We'll have to see how Roloson does though. If he can win them some games, then he should be their guy next season. But if he turns into their 4th backup goalie, then they just wasted a first round draft pick. Meanwhile, they put Morrison on waivers, since they can't have more than three goalies on their roster. If no one claims Morrison, they're gonna have to trade one of them - I say Conkin or Markkanen. Morrison should be a solid backup, and he's been their best goalie this season.

But someone like Cujo isn't exactly easy to acquire, Phoenix wouldn't give him up for much on the blech roster that the Oilers have.

Cujo is way out of his prime. He's just like Belfour. They were good but in the new NHL, they can't compete. At least roloson still has a good many years to become even better then he is now.

The "blech" roster that the Oilers have has them eleven points up on Phoenix, so I think that the Coyotes might have taken something for Cujo. Doesn't matter now.
On the bright side, the Oilers got Samsonov today, who should definitely help them score more goals and make the playoffs. He's just a rental player, though, but it's still a good deal.

Ovechkin is amazing. Now 1st place in the goal standings, 3rd place in points overall. He'll become the 4th player to reach 50 goals in their rookie year. Considering how before the season it was all Crosby talk, I think him emerging on top as the bigger star for now is a great story.
West race is looking fun. Sharks are a bit behind now(4 points), but they have 2 more games in hand than Edmonton and etc., so they can still catch up. Out of the 5, I don't think anybody is truly safe. Even the Ducks who have lots of games and are playing well, still are not out of hot water.
East race...not so much. Florida is the hottest team in the league, but IMO they're too far behind now. Toronto missing will be deserved, Pat Quinn need to go now.
Surprised that Carolina fell off so fast. From #1 in the league to #4 and possibly lower. It's still a great season, but they are no longer like Tampa Bay was last year.

Philadelphia is on a bit of a run recently, 5 out of 6, hopefully they can catch the Rangers.
That and hopefully Gagne's wrist and Peter's groin are OK. I hope the injuries aren't related if you get what I'm saying.

I agree. He's talked the talk for too long now, and the fact that his team can't even make the play-offs looks good on him.
Hopefully Ottawa can live up to their season performance for once. It's going to be hard without Hassek though...

I couldn't be happier this season. The Habs are going to make the playoffs whilst the Leafs are not. Best outcome ever.
Huet is our savior. He's wonderful. He moved from being a backup goalie with the Kings to the head Habs goalie, moving into the 1st place in terms of save percentage, and he has the 2nd most shutouts, despite playing nearly HALF the games of most goalies this season, since he didn't start playing distinctly until Theo started doing poorly and was gotten rid of.
PEACE, Mike.

See now I would support everyones high hopes... but the Red Wings will win this year, it's inevitable.
Red Wings win Stanley Cup
Pistons win NBA Championship
Tigers... win a game or two
Lions... win a game... just one.. please

I think it will either be Dallas or Carolina who wins this year. Dallas, specifically, has been very strong and has the almighty Turco. Also, they're actually beating the Red Wings in the series so far this year (2-1) with one game left between the two.
PEACE, Mike.

Carolina is starting to pick it up again, they might even take the Eastern Conferance. Buffalo looks better now too, I was worried when they went on that losing streak. They're looking fine now though.
Nashville on the other hand...ugh. What a collapse. They might even slip to like 6th or something, which looked impossible not that long ago.

Sharks have been playing well against pressure. The last few games were quite exciting, and now they are tied for the 8th spot with 2 more games to play than Vancouver. Hope they can maintain it and sneak in.

All the Oilers need to do is win their next three games, all against non-playoff teams, and they should be good. They're tied with Minnesota - who they've had trouble with - at the end of the second right now, but they should be able to beat Chicago and St. Louis. I hope.

Frickin' Oilers blew it - I saw that one coming. They really suck in shootouts. Though, they shouldn't have been there in the first place - refs blew a call earlier in the game. I didn't see it, but apparently there was a goal that was disallowed that shouldn't have been. The league even admitted it. This is the second time the refs have stuck it to the Oil, after that April Fools' joke on Saturday. Brutal...

Yeah, that sucks. I'm really rootin' for the Oilers, because I want them to make it and keep Vancouver out of the playoffs. I don't like Vancouver, and I don't like Bertuzzi, and I would love to have Calgary and Edmonton in the playoffs, and Vancouver miss.
Meanwhile, the Habs just won their 8th straight!
PEACE, Mike.

Yeah, that call was so pathetic. Apparantely they "couldn't get access" to the overhead camera-shot in time to make the call, from there is completley obvious it went in.

That's bull. There's been plenty of times this season that they took quite a long time to decide a call, and this one was obvious. They should have taken the time to make sure, not rushed the call. If the Oilers end up missing the playoffs by one point, the whole city'll be up in arms.

I think Edmonton will be able to recover. They play Chicago and St. Louis in their next two games, and they should be able to beat both, considering they are the worst in the conference.

I don't know. They've had trouble with both this year. Edmonton seems to do better against the playoff teams than the non-playoff teams in the conference. I do think (and hope) the Oil can win both, and then they'll really only have to win one of their last three (against Detroit, Anaheim, and Colorado) to make it in. LA looks to be done, after the blowout tonight, and if Vancouver continues to play crappy, then Edmonton should be alright.
The East looks to be pretty set now though. The Habs winning again pretty much sets their playoff hopes in stone, and Tampa beat Atlanta in a shootout, which moves them six points up on them with only six games left. I'm just very happy that Toronto's not making it this year - for once, CBC/TSN/The Score will have to focus on another team. Of course, they'll just talk about the Raptors and the Jays, and forget all about the playoffs.

Yes, I completely agree!! Hehe.
True about Edmonton, but I have faith they can make it. Also, Vancouver has an even harder schedule left, I think. They play Calgary and Anaheim, and both teams are very capable of beating them, especially Calgary. Then there's two San Jose games, and San Jose has been hot recently, and then they end it off with a game at Colorado, who has been able to beat Vancouver generally when at home for them.
PEACE, Mike.

The league should just come out and say that they don't want the Oilers to make the playoffs. Another goal, this one in overtime, stolen by the refs. It wasn't as conclusive, but you could see the puck over the line on the replay. Of course, it was disallowed. Luckily, the Oilers did score right after that - on the powerplay - but they keep getting screwed over by the refs. It's pissing me off.
Of course, they never would have been in overtime if Roloson hadn't let in a weak goal late in the third. I knew he wasn't the real deal. He's not a proven #1 guy.

This one I could understand. The rule is that if the ref doesn't call the goal during the play, and it is unclear in the video replay, that it isn't a goal. It certainly felt to me that the puck was in, basing it in the movement of the puck and Khabibulan's glove moving the opposite direction and eventually swiping it out, but it was generally unclear because you couldn't definitively see the puck and the goal line, and then it was all covered up by Khab's glove. So the call was something you would expect, whilst the one the night before was a gross mistake.
Anyhow, it was really cool despite that, because the Oilers scored 5 seconds later. lmao. It takes like 5 minutes to review the play, and then Edmonton goes on to score about 5 seconds afterwards anyways. Hehe. Awesome stuff. Glad to see them jump up to #6, even if the standings are so bloody tight.
PEACE, Mike.

That's what I thought earlier, but lately they've been a little iffy. And Jagr is carrying that team, big time. I just don't think it will be good enough to charge through the playoffs.
