Hamilton wins MVP for AL, much to Grill's disagreement.

And not at the computer, so can't research by Hamilton's great year by definitely should have been hurt by his injury, his play after the injury...and the fact that he played in the week assed AL West, who were never challenged at all. Anyway, list your 2-5 picks and then I will comment later and tell you who should have won (and yes Hamilton still has a chance).

week assed?
Hamilton was the deserving winner. Cabrera is a clear #2.

And also explain why he is the 2nd Most Valuable Player in the NL when his team finished 13 Games out of 1st Place.

Without him, they would have been one of the worst in the NL.

Nope, they would be a lesser team without him, but he's not as valuable as Hamilton/Cabrera.

Takahashi (former Met) signs with the Angels. That's a good start, cause we needed a lefty in the bullpen.

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
Surprised no one is talking baseball.
Especially Boston Fans.
So Boston Goes After Riveria. What's wrong with the Paps Bard Combo.
And that stupidly pisses off the Yankees who will now drive the price up for Crawford, whether they wrong him or not. Who is now the big guy after Worth signs with the Nats.
And after they agree to the Gonzalez trade. They won't go 8 years on a contract. Shit, he is 28, so give him 8 to 36. Especially since everyone says he will be the greatest lefty hitter at Fenway, since Freddy Lynn.
And what now on Belte, will he want to come back?
And on Worth, is he that good? Too me he was OK on offense, but not always on. And I don't know his defense?
And Congrats to Jeter, for being a Man, and not pushing the contract demands. As he comes down in years and $ to sign a 3 year one at 17 per year and a 4th year option which could be 8 to 17.

Werth is now with the Nationals ($126 million for 7 years). The Nats!!! What a joke. Have fun counting your money in the basement (meaning last place).
I agree with you Grill about the Red Sox wanting Mo is crazy. I know Paps didn't have the best year last season, but they still got Bard. I am happy for Jeter staying with his team though.

I think he will end up an Angel cause he is friends with Torii.

You wonder if that friendship will be enough and also does he have other close friends on other teams.
And I know that the Angels owner is known for having a budget number that he doesn't like to go over. So it will be interesting to see what everyone offers Crawford in years and total contract $. And then what he decides to take.
And as it looks like the Red Sox trade for Gonzalez finally is official. I am hoping that the Yankees go after Crawford, big.

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
Apparently the Gonzalez deal is worth 8 years at $161 million, though they might wait to announce anything official so they can get away with the luxury tax. If the contract is that big, I'm pleasantly surprised they pulled the trigger. They desperately needed another bat after losing Martinez. And if the eight years is true, they've got a solid core of Pedroia, Youkilis and Gonzalez that will be with the team for many years.
As for Beltre I'd say this pretty much is the end of the line with him, which is disappointing. Given the choice between him and Gonzalez though? Red Sox made the right move. That saying, Youkilis has played in left field before so maybe they're thinking along those lines? I think the chances of that happening on a regular basis are nil at best.
And as for Jeter, although I think the sooner he retires the better the Red Sox will be...I'm kind of glad he resigned. It would've felt wrong if he were in any other uniform.

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
so that was 8 year 161 reported this morning...as I heard last night that they were going to wait on a deal.
and that is funny, 161 instead of 160. Guess everyone wants to get more as you would think 160 for 8 at 20 per would be enough...but guess they wanted to say that he got over 20 Million per year. or the Agent wanted it?
Anyway, like I sadi before, people say that he will be a great Fenway part hitter, as he likes to hit fly balls to left field.

....same report this morning on Yahoo.....
Gonzalez is entering the last year of his contract in 2011 and although the trade does not include a contract extension, Epstein said he’s sure something will be worked out.

Yeah, it doesn't surprise me he would say something like that. My guess is they already have something worked out, they just haven't made it official so they don't get penalized with the luxury tax.

Yes, even Tony Reagins said that to satisfy the fans, they may have to pull a Steinbrenner-like deal to get it. Usually our payroll is in the 120m range, but it said it may end up like 130m, or even 150m (we are at 90m so far with Shields and Fuentes contracts are expired, thank god).

Re: 2010 Major League Baseball Discussion
Also dangerous is the fact that Gonzalez is looking at the contract Werth got and Crawford gets.
Just read that crawford is easily worth more than Werth and will only be looking at 8 year deals.
And since his whole game is speed, maybe teams should pass on his for 8 Years.
So Gonzalez might be the safest 8 year pick.

Looking at Rivera wasn't a slap in Papelbon's face. I think both sides have made it clear that if he does play in Boston next year it'll be his last. I think they'll try to trade him before the season starts and go with Bard as the closer.
