Re: Official Summer Olympics 2008 Thread
I heard about that. The Chinese government is usually all smoke and mirrors. A friend of mine goes to Shanghai for the F1 grand prix every year and some of the stands are full of kids under the age of 5 who are bused in to make the stands look full. Also - earlier today I was thinking how all the venues seemed to lack that special Olympic feeling - I mean it all seems so clynical. And then they interviewed some Aussies who were there and they duely confirmed what I thought. Apparently, the authorities limit the number of people who can go into a venue - even though it ends up half empty.

Low self-esteem. They really shot the fireworks -- it's just that CG sequences were used on TV due to difficulty in properly filming the real deal live. I don't understand the fuss; it's as if people are putting down the organizers for the hell of it.

Re: Official Summer Olympics 2008 Thread
Yeah those US based charts are bogus. China should be on top as Golds are more important than 'total'.

I think he just retyped these results by total medals. Also, I dont like how quickly China came back in total medals. It was like, 9-6 G and 19-15 total last I saw, and now they're right back to dominating. : (

I would have liked the Americans to come up with silver just because it would have been such an underdog story and no one had even been to the Olympics before, but I am so, so, so happy that the Chinese got Gold. They were miles better than everyone and definitely deserved it. That was a beautiful event with lots of emotional highs and lows and a lot of fantastic exercises. It doesn't get better than this.

That's a given. We know Canada sucks. I've stopped rooting for them and couldn't care less.

They looked psyched and really rose to the occassion. That little Texan frat-boy was such a cute little munchkin. He was, like, "Ok, we need a team leader. I could do that." And he definitely rose to the occassion. I heard him pep-talking the team every ten seconds and it was so clear he'd never been in that position before and was doing his best to fill in some big shoes. OUr team was so multi-culti too, it was sweet.

Hey guys do you know if there are any exhibition/demo events this year? Kind of like how Taekwondo and bowling were in 88 (?). Of course, only Taekwondo eventually became an official Olympic sport.

Lol.....the voice of the little child singing during the opening ceremony was fake. The child who has the beautiful voice was to ugly found the political leadership and droped her. Though that didnt stop them to use the taped voice.
