Here is it, love to see some of the above tell me why this shot shouldn't be considered.
* Whole Play took 1 second * James had a defender on him. * James wasn't facing the basket * Shot was a 30 foot fade away that was perfect from James' form to the almost net ball. * Shot kept Cavs from going down 0-2 and going on the road. * Everyone always says James has everything but a ring, he alone kept them in this series cause they wouldn't come back from 0-2.
etc as those are just some quick points, more later if needed...

Who was on his right and not facing Lebron or his shooting hand.

He turned to catch the pass and shot it while facing the basket. The only time he wasn't looking at the basket was when he caught the pass.

If it's perfect form from James, why is this a talking point?

* Shot kept Cavs from going down 0-2 and going on the road.
Which is the only reason why the shot is being talked about. If they lose twice in Orlando it won't be talked about again.

He alone has brought them to first place in the East (second if Garnett was healthy, but that's beside the point) and two first round sweeps. Without him they would've been part of the lottery a week or so ago.
Re: Lebron James makes greatest shot of All-Time with 1 second
Saw an article by someone in Yahoo Sports that I will post later.
And he wrote. This was one of the greatest shots in NBA history due to the circumstances, stakes and degree of difficulty.
Also based on everyones comments, guess michael jordans 63 point game can't count as a great game as it happened too early in the playoffs.
Which I of course would say is stupid.

Great comparison.
No one said Lebron's shot wasn't great. It was and right now it has especially saved the Cavaliers ass because they haven't been good at all in this series against the Magic.
The criticism that people (like myself) are having is that it's not one of the greatest shots in NBA history in terms of the actual shot and the circumstances. It came in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Great. If he does it in Game 7 get back to me. Then I'll be more willing to jump on board.
Jordan's 63 point outing is very different. WHY?
BECAUSE HE SCORED 63 POINTS IN A PLAYOFF GAME!
You're comparing one of the great efforts in playoff history to Lebron's buzzer beater? Your argument is that because some people think Lebron's shot is "only" great that means those same people must think that Jordan's effort over the course of an entire playoff game wasn't anything special?
Even if Lebron's buzzer beater was the greatest shot of all-time the comparison doesn't work.

well cavs got rolled pretty easily today. lebron went 11 for 28 and missed 4 clutch free throws in the 4th quarter. The magic look like the better team and if the magic win the series that show won't even be in the top 20 ever

Based on Pressure, sorry but there was or difference in Game 2 or Game 7. Seems like you are changing your tune alittle. and like I said that Game 2 could then almost be compared to as a Game 7 as if the Cavs lost there, there would be no coming back.
Edit...forgot to comment on this...what????

* The only smart thing you said was in a playoff game, just like James shot. But where James shot doesn't get downgraded in terms of it happened in Game 2, Jordan's Game might get downgraded based on the situation.
Because the Celtics didn't care how many points Jordan was scoring...they wanted to win the game.
and FYI, Boston swept that series so does it really matter how much Jordan scored!!!!! at least James shot won them a game!!!!!!

also from an article I just saw - Take his word that he knows how hard the shot was.
Once again, No. 23 reigns in Cleveland By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports
This was one of the greatest shots in NBA history, because of the circumstances and stakes and degree of difficulty. Twenty years ago, it was Jordan over Craig Ehlo to beat the Cavs in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Re: Lebron James makes greatest shot of All-Time with 1 second
How am I changing my tune? I never said it wasn't a great shot. It's just not one of the greatest shots of all-time let alone the greatest.
And
Game 2 is nothing like a Game 7. Game 7 is a do or die game. The winner goes on and the loser is done. Game 2 can be considered a must-win if a home team has lost the first game, but it's not the end of the series if they lose, especially if they're a higher seed and have two more home games in the series.

Edited the above...and note Jordan got swept in that series.
Fyi...after 2 games, an NBA player knows how the series is going...so they know better than others, how do or die it is.

last post...all I am saying is that I think it was one of the greatest, especially after all those you guys mentioned...I use to play some and watching games, James shot was alot harder than others from that reel, so for me and the guy above, we seem to feel the situation and the degree of difficulty moves it up on the list...so no big deal, we disagree.
and note, the poll has a 50 / 50 vote whether it is Top 10 or not so everyone is split on it.

Might get downgraded by whom exactly? And if the Cavs don't win the series, what's the difference? He won a game. Who cares? They will have still lost the series like Jordan did. One could actually make the argument that the shot becomes even more meaningless especially up against Jordan's game which is considered one of the best games by a single player in the history of the NBA despite the fact that he lost. However, like I said before if they do come back to win the series it'll find it's way somewhere in the top ten.
But anyways to address your other point, so if they lose the first two that means they're not showing up for Game 3 because it's all over? 13 teams in a best-of-seven series have said otherwise. And how about a bit of irony. Guess who one of those teams was?
The 2007 Cleveland Cavaliers (an inferior team to the '09 version)
They beat the Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals. I think a certain someone was on that '07 Cavaliers team. I just can't think of his name.

so lets forget about everything - the 1 second, going down 0-2 etc, James not having any rings yet, etc......
how often in the NBA will a fall away 30 foot 3 pointer go in with a guy covering you? What % is your guess?

Hell Reggie Miller's shot was bigger. No way is this top 3. I think Jordan's should be 3 personally. That shot against Cleveland is one of the most famous in NBA history. I am shocked Bird's buzzer beater over Detroit didn't make that list.

Here is James for review if anyone wants to look at it again.
If you can put up your choices, I would like to look at them again - to me - this one is easily better than half of those 10 best ever ones that someone posted.

Re: Lebron James makes greatest shot of All-Time with 1 second
What makes that shot from Jordan against Cleveland an alltime great shot is that it was in the deciding game 5, if he misses then the bulls are eliminated, if he makes it they win the series and move on.Not to mention, The bulls were the underdog in that series and the cavs were seen as a real contender to the championship that year, def a top 3 shot IMO.
Oh, and Grill, you talk about how James shot is the greatest because there was only 1 second on the clock, but it doesnt even come close to this one:

I will admit that one was very good and probably better. I wish I could get it on the full screen as the one thing I liked about James shot was how controlled he was; here I couldn't tell if that was a shot or a chuck?
also please note my poll question, where I was asking the question of what people thought.
Was it the best basketball shot ever
Yes, #1 Ever! 16% [ 2 ] Top 10 Maybe 33% [ 4 ] Just another Great Shot, No Big Deal 50% [ 6 ]
Total votes : 12

There have been more clutch shots made. Difficulty of the shot made was not that great. I remember Kobe's shot again blazers in 2004. Couple of unbelievable 3's.
Plus I remember a three by kobe against suns which was maid off balanced as he was falling down.
Jordan has made so many clutch shots that he will at least have 5 in all time Top 10. I also remember a Larry bird shot made off balance after grabbing a offensive rebound.

So many..... as in one writer?
No, I know people are debating it's place in history, rightfully so.
Should anyone be shocked though that an NBA writer (someone who is payed to talk/hype up the league whenever possible in order to promote it) is touting the shot as being one of the best in sports history? Should anyone be shocked that the writer is from Sports Illustrated, a magazine which is owned by Time Warner who also just happens to own TNT, the network that just happened to be covering that game?

bump....well as everyone can see, the Cavs are only still playing thanks to James and that Game 2 shot..overwise series over right now....think someone said, they wanted to see how far the series and the Cavs go.
