 Re: 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread
Louisville now has inside track to win the Big East tournament and a No. 1 seed in the overall tournament. Pitt should still get an 1 seed given it beat UConn twice. Think UConn is a 2-seed now unless Michigan State, Memphis, and Duke all lose later this week. UNC should be the other 1 seed.

 Re: 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread
as a lifelong uconn fan, that was the most exciting yet crushing loss i've had to endure. with oklahoma losing pitt losing, and uconn losing and unc currently down against virginia tech, i'm not so positive they are going to take the number 1 away from uconn just yet.

Duke has no chance at a #1 they are a 2 at best. I don't think Memphis deserves a #1 at all, they haven't beat anybody that great out of their conference. Michigan State might have a chance. The bracket guy at ESPN thinks these three have wrapped up #1s are UNC, Pitt, and UConn. The last one will probably be between Louisville, Michigan State, and Memphis.

 Re: 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread
I have trouble seeing UL not getting a No. 1 seed after winning Big East's regular season and advancing farther than either Pitt and UConn in the tournament. Their one drawback is that their loss are worse than the other contenders. Winning the tournament should still lock it up though.
If Duke meets and beats UNC in the final, they will have a good argument for the 4th No. 1, as the ACC champion normally gets high respect from the committee. I remember one year Maryland got a 5 in the bracket after winning the ACC tournament even though they were still on the bubble just the week before. Duke also has a No. 2 RPI.
Also I just have a hard time seeing three teams from the same conference getting a No. 1 seed, especially when two didn't make the conference semifinals.

I am just going by what I hear Duke is getting no consideration based on the ESPN experts. Also, realize in the past the committee has ignored the tournaments in terms of seeding. Teams have lost early in their tourneys and they still get a #1. I am basing everything off of him http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketologyHe is right almost 90% of time in terms of #1 seeds.

I read his piece all the time too. He is definitely great, especially in his analysis and giving an overall picture, but his seedings sometimes could still be off. For example, I really don't see anyway Kansas will still get a No. 2 seed after losing 2 games to the bottom of the league.

I think Missouri takes that #2 if they win the Big 12.

 Re: 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread
Nah, Missouri won't be higher than a 3 given they have done little on the road; all their big wins are at home. Taking the tournament title without playing Kansas or Oklahoma doesn't mean much. Oklahoma should've always been a 2 since they haven't had a bad loss, and they were missing the big guy in two of them.
I don't think Duke could beat UNC, but even if they do and get the No. 1 seed, UConn will definitely be the No. 2 seed for that region since you can't have the top 2 seeds from the same conference, and many, probably myself included, will still pick UConn to come out of that region. I think it's highly possible that 3 Big East teams will make the final four, even if one of the big 3 doesn't make it. The top 7 is just crazily strong there.

 Re: 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread
Missouri though has been hot and the committee do award hot teams sometimes. Also we can rule out Michigan State as a 1 since they are getting blown out by Ohio State. I still don't think Memphis is deserving and Duke to me has no chance.

 Re: 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread
I've never bought into the hype of Michigan State even though their computer number is strong. Their blowout loss to UNC at home, even if it was back in Dec, is still fresh in my mind. A title-caliber team should have never gotten blown out like that.

 Re: 2008-2009 College Basketball Thread
Although I know why it could happen, I'm still shaking my head at idea that Big Ten could get 8 teams in. Hope Penn State or another team will get ignored, and they end up with 7 teams just as Big East and ACC do. They have one Sweet-16 team and a bunch of average teams that may lose in the first round. I'll take Big East/ACC over the field any time this year.

I was hoping the Big East would get 8 but Providence probably came up one win short of making it. If they had beaten Northeastern earlier in the year they could be in with 20 wins.

Nice comeback USC
Harden looked tired and phat. I'm still not sure about him. Undersized and unathletic isn't the best combo, his skill aside.
I think Greg Monroe will be the best nba player in this draft

Memphis should be the 4th No. 1 seed now, with UConn the No. 2 seed in that region. Duke and Michigan State will be two other No. 2s, with one from Big 12 (still think it'll be Oklahoma).

UConn has a clear path in the West.
So we'll be in the East with Pitt. Not bad.

Man, East is tough. Florida State is playing well. Then you have Villanova, UCLA, Texas, and Duke on the bottom half.
