 Re: 2012 NFL Discussion
Awful call. ESPN probably could have pretended to be more objective discussing it, though.
Like, I wanna know how the ref reasoned it a TD initially and then on review.

 Re: 2012 NFL Discussion
I listened to the game on the radio. From what I could tell, there were 4 major miscalls during the game. One, there was defensive pass interference called on the Seahawks when the defender timed it nearly perfectly. He might have been there a little ahead of time, but 95% of the time it's a no call. Two, the called defensive pass interference on Sam Shields when he was in perfect position and the offensive player had his hand on Shields face mask. Not only was it not defensive pass interference, but it was offensive pass interference. Three, the final play, Tate obviously pushed one of the defenders for pass interference and wasn't called. And four, the obvious call that everyone has been talking about. I understand why it wasn't overturned. A dumb rule in the rule book states that you can't review a catch that's ruled simultaneous. The problem is that it shouldn't have been ruled simultaneous in the first place. A horrible call.
You can make the argument that the Packers shouldn't have let the situation get to that point (for one, yes, Jennings should have batted the ball away instead of trying to intercept it), but that doesn't change the fact that they should have a W instead of a L. In a very competitive conference this year, that one loss could make a huge difference at the end of the season.
This situation has turned the NFL into a joke and pissed off a lot of fans.

 Re: 2012 NFL Discussion
Calling it a TD was correct. Order of events was 1. Jennings intercepts ball but is on 1 foot 2. Tate puts hands on ball 3. Jennings other foot comes down while both players hands are on the ball. Jennings didn't have control of it when he had sole possession cause his other foot hadn't hit the ground yet. By the time his other foot hit, Tate's hands were on it and thus the "control" was with simultaneous possession. Jennings then rips the ball from him again on the ground but that's irrelevant because the play is already dead before that, once they hit the ground. The key thing is Jennings being on one foot when he initially gets the ball. I feel like people haven't seen the replay enough or closely enough to notice that. Once one sees that it's obvious why it's correct to call it simultaneous, or at least justify calling it that way The "bad call" part of the play is not calling the pass interference but that's not what people are really complaining about here, pass interference doesn't get called on hail marys with the regular refs either and the refs have been fucking the PI pooch all year

 Re: 2012 NFL Discussion
Tate never had full possession. Jennings had the ball first and had it to his chest. The rule is who has control first. Jennings had it first. So what Tate had his hands on it at the end. It is a disgrace and makes the NFL look like a joke. People are comparing them to the WWE which is sad

Tate putting his hand on the ball does not equal possession.

Of COURSE Shack thinks it was the right call. That just further proves how WRONG it was.

People are comparing them to the WWE which is sad For Jennings to have control both feet would have to be down. It's like how dropping a pass before a player's second foot comes down means it's an incomplete pass and not a fumble. If Jennings dropped the ball before his second foot came down it would've been an incomplete. Therefore he didn't have control Nobody had control until they hit the ground, where it appears both players had both hands on the ball. It's possible Tate didn't have both hands on it when they hit the ground, but IMO it's hard to blame the refs if that was the case because it definitely looks like he had both hands on it when they fall

 Re: 2012 NFL Discussion
Yeah, Tate never had full control, let alone, possession of the ball. It was Jennings all the way and the replay clearly shows that.

 Re: 2012 NFL Discussion
You already called it when you said Quote: 1. Jennings intercepts ball but is on 1 foot At that point, it doesn't matter that Tate has his right arm draped over the ball. You can't see his other arm, but we do know Jennings has both thans on the ball and it's on his chest... It's an interception as clear as day and most everyone who sees that play would think so. I was listening to Mike & Mike and they a email they read where this guy was asking his wife (who's just a housewife) who got the ball with no audio. She just watched the play as is and she goes the guy in the green and yellow. Nuff said.

Libs wrote: The calls these replacement refs are making have been blowing up social media. lol You know the NFL needs to solve this when Libs is posting in the football thread. ---- As far as some people suggesting the NFL should have overturned the result. My opinion is that should Never be done even though there's a rule that gives them that option in ultra specific circumstances. The refs botched it up and once they called it a TD there was about 0.000001% chance of changing that in that stadium. I did like how the stadium got super silent just before the ref ruled.

 Re: 2012 NFL Discussion
Official statement of the Lingerie Football League Quote: Because of the LFL's perception it is that much more critical for us to hire officiating crews that are competent, not only for the credibility of our game but to keep our athletes safer. Due to several on-field incompetent officiating we chose to part ways with with a couple crews which apparently are now officiating in the NFL. We have a lot of respect for our officials but we felt the officiating was not in line with our expectations.
We have not made public comment to date because we felt it was not our place to do so. However in light of tonight's event, we felt it was only fair that NFL fans knew the truth as to who are officiating these games.

Some of the replacement refs were fired from the Lingerie Football League for incompetence.
