That's really pathetic play better teams. really rather simple So? As long as the rule is at it is, it doesn't matter. If they are not good enough Coaches and AP should put them lower in their Polls. If they put them in, then they deserve a shot. It's that easy so you think they deserve it over Texas, oklahoma, usc, penn state, ohio state, oklahoma state? Doesn't matter what I think or what you think. The polls think so and if you make them the bar, then be it as it may. Implement some other criteria and we could discuss about it that's not how it works. NC = #1 vs #2 Rose Bowl = Pac 10 champ vs Big 10 Champ Fiesta Bowl = Big 12 Champ vs At Large Sugar Bowl = SEC Champ vs At Large Orange Bowl = ACC Champ vs Big East Champ (Orange Bowl gets last selection so I see SB going with the at large) So lets look at this way NC = Alabama vs Texas RB = USC vs Penn State OB = Virginia Tech vs Cincy now using your logic of rankings since Florida will still be in the top 5 and Oklahoma will still be in the top 5 even after next week Fiesta Bowl = Oklahoma Sugar Bowl = Florida That leaves 2 spots. Now if we want to look at the rankings Utah gets one since they're 7th and Texas Tech gets one since they're 8th. So that still means no other spot using your ranking system and the actual bowl system.

not surprising. TX strength of schedule went down going against A&M while OK went up going against OSU

It's just ridiculous that a sport can disadvantage teams that much. It's as if MLB would instate the AL East gets twoplayoff spots guaranteed and two weaker conferences have to fight for the last spot. Put a playoff in place and everyone could see how good or bad the small schools are. But no, that actually could prove that the big schools aren*t that much better which will cost them money, so we're putting our precious bowl games behind barb wire and spring guns.

Which means only Utah makes the playoffs

This just in!
If Oklahoma beats Missouri... and Florida beats Alabama...
Texas has a very VERY good chance of playing Oklahoma in the title game.
SUCK ON THAT!

SUCK ON THAT! wont happen, nor should it. You don't win your conference, you don't deserve a spot in the national championship

 Re: 2008 College Football Dicussion
The computers have Florida no higher than 3rd, and averaging a 6.
They would need to win BIG against Bama to get in.
Or have Oklahoma lose.

That's what you THINK.
How many times have the computers NOT screwed something up.
I guarantee it happens.

 Re: 2008 College Football Dicussion
I'm not so sure a Texas/Oklahoma rematch in the BCS Championship game would be bad, or even unfair.
I think when you compare the schedules of Texas/Oklahoma/Florida, with the knowledge that the SEC is down this year, the two Big 12 schools have a more impressive overall resume.

Texas lost to Tech, AT Tech, and in the final minute. Oklahoma lost to Texas on a neutral field, despite them leading for a while.
Florida lost to Ole Miss, AT Florida. Bama hasn't lost.

I think Alabama is going to win on Saturday though. I actually would love to see an Oklahoma-Alabama title game. Best offense vs best defense.

Here's the breakdown: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/b ... aaf,125550Honestly... I think Texas is in unless BOTH Bama and Oklahoma win. If Bama loses, Oklahoma wins, then Texas' strength of schedule goes up and they won't get jumped by Florida. If Oklahoma loses, obviously Texas is in.

That's what you want.
What if Oklahoma loses?
What is Florida wins and Oklahoma loses?
For Texas not to get in, Oklahoma and Alabama both need to win.

For Texas not to get in, Oklahoma and Alabama both need to win. if florida wins and oklahoma loses then it should go to USC. If you don't win your championship you don't deserve to be in the national title game. That won't happen thought. It'll be either Alabama/Florida vs Oklahoma

 Re: 2008 College Football Dicussion
USCs computer ranking alone would prevent them from jumping Texas so give that idea up.
I don't see Nick Saban's team losing to Florida this saturday. He's a great coach when he take a team of no names and go 12-0. Plus, I'd love to see Alabama and OU in the title game. It'll be nothing but a sea of red in the stands. Plus plus, I'm so sick of Florida and the Teebow man crush the announcers every freaking game. Anytime you flip the channel to watch Floriday play it's Teebow this Teebow that. Enough already.

 Re: 2008 College Football Dicussion
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/f ... index.htmlChip Kelly is named Mike Belllotti's successor. This is fantastic news. Kelly is essentially the head coach already (designs and runs the entire offense, does most of the offensive recruiting), so at least now we don't have to worry about him bolting to Syracuse.
