Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Since there was no Angel game today, I decided to watch the Dodger game today. But it was worth it. An 11 to 1 blowout against the Giants (despite Randy Johnson pitching). And Orlando Hudson becomes the first Dodger at Dodger's Stadium to hit for the cycle (and the first Dodger to do so in 29 years). Great for him. The Opening ceremony was memorable too (with a mention of Nick), and announcer Vin Scully, still looking good at 81.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Dodgers Billingsley, 7 innings pitched, 11 strikeouts, 2-0 record, 2 ERA, not bad for a #3 pitcher.
Wonder if maybe the Dodgers could have the best starting staff in baseball? Time will tell!!!
Anyway, nice to see one do it on the field rather than looking good on paper or with only 1 good year behind him.

5 runs allowed by Lester in the 2nd inning! and Wang got bombed. Not a good night for #2 pitchers.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Beckett suspended for 6 games, deserving so as IMO I think he threw at the guys head but mainly because he went down to the hitter and instigated the fight, IMO.
But probably not a big deal, appeal the ruling, pitch a game, then drop the appeal and have 6 days off.
But I guess he will lose 6 days pay. If he makes 10 Million a Year, that might be 300 K in lost salary. Plus was there a fine???

Seven games have been played. They're not going to struggle all year long. If they're still pitching like this in August then there will be a cause for concern. Instead I'm going to wait and see what unfolds throughout the majority of the season instead of jumping to some sort of inane conclusion. You know all of this already though. If you don't then I'd have to assume that last year was the first year you actively watched baseball, because no one with a right frame of mind would come to any conclusions after seven games - hell, after the first two months. Remember the Phillies last year? They started off the season 2-4. I guess they were fucked.

I just don't think that Boston has the deepest pitching staff, if you are expecting winning results. Lots of question marks to me.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
Ha! Serves him right. We all knew Beckett did it because Abreu was a Yankee last year. The Red Sux learned that day to not piss off Abreu, or he will make you pay (hence his two RBI single later that day, giving us the win).
As for the Angels, only Hatcher got Suspended (for 1 day). Scoscia, Hunter, and Speier only got fined.

I don't know if there was that much thought involved but he holds the ball for like 12 seconds - so he was pushing his luck that a timeout wouldn't be called - and then, IMO, he got pissed and threw it at the guy's head. and I think that it had to be at the head as I don't think Beckett was planning to throw it 6+ feet off the ground and 2 feet inside. anyway like I said before, Beckett should have stayed on the mound and let the umpires handle it but he came down like a tough guy. Most times the pitchers gives a gesture sorry. PS. I would love for a batter to let a bat slip at a pitcher if any pitcher was headhunting.

looking at the stats - A. Pujols and Longoria - look they might be having some triple crown type years.

Rumor is the Browns are in for a major shake up. They look like they're definitely trading Edwards and Quinn is likely too if they get more than one draft pick.

So they're so bad at football they got dumped to the MLB? I think they might make a semi-serious push at signing LeBron next year. They'd sellout every game no matter how bad they were. MJ did it! (if you don't believe the conspiracy theorists)

angels lose a tough one 3-2 and right now Yanks beating Tampa 3-2 with Burnett pitching a good game. Burnett is a great pickup if he doesn't get hurt.

Re: 2009 Major League Baseball Discussion
wow, Dice blows a 3-0 lead for Boston by giving up 5 first inning runs, I thought this was going to be an easy game.
and the Yanks blew the game open for Burnett, with like a 7-2 win over Tampa.
