Now dat we da champs we cant forget where we came from... Shack wrote: Garnett's going to Boston... for their entire supporting cast Quote: Celtics agree to acquire Garnett for four players, draft pick July 30, 2007 CBS SportsLine.com wire reports BOSTON -- Kevin Garnett is leaving Minnesota after the Boston Celtics agreed to acquire the All-Star forward in a multiplayer trade with the Timberwolves, a Celtics official told the Associated Press on Monday.
Advertisement Among the players who could be headed to Minnesota are forward Al Jefferson, guard Sebastian Telfair, swingman Gerald Green and center Theo Ratliff, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been completed. The official also said the Timberwolves would get at least one draft choice.
The teams still had some things to clarify with the players' contracts, but the official said that would not keep the Celtics from acquiring Garnett, although there could be a change in the players ticketed for the Timberwolves.
There was a chance that a conference call announcing the trade would be held Monday, the official said.
Garnett, 31, has spent all of his 12 NBA seasons with Minnesota. He would get an extension of his contract, which has one year plus an option year remaining, the official said.
The Celtics had tried to get Garnett late last month, but his agent said he didn't want to go to Boston.
Since then, Boston acquired seven-time All-Star guard Ray Allen from Seattle in a draft day deal. Already with Paul Pierce, the Celtics would become instant contenders in the mediocre Atlantic Division with Garnett, even without promising forward Jefferson.
The Celtics obtained Allen and the 35th pick of the draft for guards Delonte West and Wally Szczerbiak, and forward Jeff Green of Georgetown, whom they drafted with the fifth pick.
The Celtics have won just three playoff series during Pierce's nine years with them. They still have an NBA-record 16 championships, but none since 1986.
"They have no excuses, this team out there," Danny Ainge, the executive director of basketball operations, said after Allen was acquired.
Pierce, 29, led the Celtics in scoring last season but played only 47 games because of injury.
Allen, who turns 32 next month, averaged a career-high 26.4 points last season, his 11th, but underwent surgery to remove bone spurs on both ankles that required him to wear protective boots. He is expected to be ready for training camp.

We're gonna be around with this nucleus for 10 years and long after Boston and NJ's teams get old anyways, so I don't mind. I actually kind of like the deal for Boston. If it was just Pierce + Garnett, that wouldn't be enough, but with Allen they probably have a good a chance as anyone in the next couple years to win the east. Jefferson is gone... but I think he's been just a bit overrated as a prospect, he's not going to be an MVP in a few years or anything. Boston's supporting cast sucks balls. But whatever. So so deal for Minnesota. They needed to get Jefferson and the Celts draft pick before the Allen deal went down, now they have good filler, but they'll still suck balls for a while. worked out nicely id say

Enjoy it while it lasts, Boston, because next year, the Blazers are comin', baby. Ok, maybe not next year, but certainly the year after.

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season
Great job Boston! Tonight exemplified the series and difference between the two teams... Celtics with guts and heart, Lakers with icy glares. Anytime you can beat an excellent team like LA by 30 in a championship clinching game, you clearly deserve it. Garnett's post-game speech Certainly one of the biggest turnarounds ever... last year the Celtics were the embarrasment of the division my team won. We had like 20+ more wins than them, lol. Now they're the champs. And I'm not totally sold on the Lakers next year. For one thing, Bynum's knee might be fucked up (though really they just need him to rebound and play defense, something they were missing this year). There's also a problem in the sense that an Odom, Gasol, Bynum frontcourt has limited range offensively, they can all score near the basket, but no-one can really hit perimeter shots, actually Odom and Bynum don't have a jumpshot at all. And again if their chemistry is as questionable as it was this year...

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season
So many thoughts are racing through my mind right now I don't exactly know where to place them. Okay, let me start here. May I direct you to this link - http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2 ... ies=lalbos (Scroll to "Experts Picks") - Now join me in laughing hysterically. And give an extra chuckle to Marc Stein and that guy named Abbot. Second random thought - We not only won by playing our brand of basketball (it's worth repeating - defense wins championships), but we destroyed the Lakers at their own game. I thought this would be a close hard fought game. But 131-92??? There was nothing Phil Jackson could've done in his zen master mind to have stopped that. Once Garnett through the ball through the hoop and got the foul called, you just knew the game was over. Holy hell. And the thing I loved most? Once the Celtics noticed the Lakers stopped playing, they only took it at them harder. Oh that was a pleasure to see. The "alley-oop" with Tony Allen at the end was one of the greatest unnecessary things I've ever seen. They wanted nothing more than to embarass the Lakers and that's exactly what they did. 4th quarter (otherwise known as the defensive struggle quarter) - Lakers 32pts, Celtics 42pts. I guess the Celtics had a 40+ quarter in them afterall. The Celtics played 108 games this season (most all-time). The Celtics went 82-26. And they were the first team to have played that many games and still win an NBA Championship. They had to rope off the fans during the final minute or so. I guess everyone wasn't let on to the fact that fans haven't been allowed to storm the court in quit sometime. I can't say I blame them though. It's been 22 years afterall. They wanted to celebrate like it was 1986. My last random thought: 22 years is not even close to matching 86 years. The Red Sox world championship in 2004 will always be the happiest sports moment for me. But even though the Patriots Super Bowl win in 2002 was "my" first championship, I'd say this one was more special just based on what happened with the Celtics last year - losing 18 in a row, getting the #5 lottery pick - and after 22 years of mediocrity (minus the few and far between years they made the playoffs), this was just nice. It's even nicer having watched all of the games both this year and last year.

Not surprised by the ass rape that Cs laid on the Lakers this series. Fakers are just far too soft and Cs took advantage of that.
I hope shit head "sports analysts" stop comparing Kobe to Jordan now, that garbage can officially be dropped.

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season
so after that game - I think that truthfully we can all say that the refs gave that game to the Celtics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
seriously but not really - as that game has to be 3 sections.
- The game was close for the first 1 quarter and aliitle into the second - where the score was mainly under 5 point difference.
- Then the game went from 5 to 15 points quickly as the Lakers got 3 - 3 poiunters in a row with the Lakers not scoring.
Plus there was one incredible minute where the Celtics missed 4 shots but got 4 rebounds and then I think got a 3 pointer on the 5th shot.
****** Note, to me the 2 biggest things were the Celtics rebounding and the great play of Pierce for most games as he carried the Celtics in alot of games.
- Didn't hear who won MVP but it better have been Pierce.
*******
Then by the 3rd section - the Lakers were just out of it and couldn't do anything as the lead went from under 20 to into the 30's - didn't matter at this point as the game was over by this point.
Now on the refs.... here are the plays I want to talk about.
- Kobe in the first quarter got landed on while he was making a 3 pointer - hello, didn't the NBA just say that is a foul. Then of course, Pierce got a foul call at the top of the key 2 plays later. Note, this was the refs way of telling everyone that the refs were controlling the game. and I could point out so many other non foul calls on Kobe.
- Then in the first quarter, there were so many times that while the Lakers were shooting, the Celtics were bumping them - hello that is a foul - as noted how many times Pierce got that call while driving to the hoop.
- Lastly, I don't watch many games but I have never seen so little calls after the shot to send a team - the Lakers - to the line for the 3 points after a basket.
And yes it was a joke that when the game was ending, the Celtics were banging the Lakers around like a pinball game.
so as I said before, I really hate basketball as the rules aren't followed and favorites are given breaks and some of these calls that are called in basketball, I see less called in a supposely tougher football game.

Um... almost every game but 7 was close. It wasn't my favorite series either (LA vs Utah was the best IMO), but it had close games.
It was much more competitive than that San Antonio vs Cleveland embarrasment.

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season
Game 6 was a 39 point blowout, that everyone knew was coming.
Game 5 was won by 5 points in LA on the brink of "elimination". LA had it locked up before the game started, we all knew this.
Game 4 LA fell apart at the half and it wasn't even close the rest of the way.
Game 3 was really the only "close" game, mainly because Boston was looking like they would take a 3-0 lead.
Game 2 was only "close" because the Lakers scored 41 in the final quarter.
Game 1, once Pierce came back from his "injury" *bullshit*, it was no contest.
Where's the drama? Where's the intrigue?
Thumbs WAY down on the hyped matchup. I would have rather seen Pistons-Spurs again.

Boston over LA in 6 games.
It's a 2-3-2 format... I think Boston will win the first two at home... sneak one of the 3 out of LA, and then win game 6 at home. I think the Lakers are going to be rudely awakened by some hardcore Eastern Conference defense, not that soft Western Conf. shit. Holy hell... I nailed this one perfectly! I'm happy the Celts won, just for the pure fact that I was sick of hearing how great the Western Conference was, and KG deserved at least 1 championship ring. But now I can go back to hating the Celts. They'll probably be yet another one hit wonder, and the Pistons can lose next year to a new foe in the 6th game of the ECF!

 Re: NBA 2007-2008 season
just hope that next year, the refs call it the same shitty way - mixing football with basketball. A more exciting form of basketball.
- Kobe going to talk a 3 pointer, jump on him. Tackle him! As the refs won't call it.
- Kobe going for a shot - hit his hand everytime - no foul unless your name is Ray Allen.
- Going up the middle and getting hit - no foul unless your name is Paul Pierce.
- some smaller player comes into the middle, push him around like a pinball.
- if you are a superstar center, 4 steps allowed in the middle.
- Be like Pierce, everytime you get hit hard, go down on the floor and act like you are dying for a minute before getting up and showing that nothing is wrong with you.
- pick on one side and only give them T's for complaining about how bad the refs are.
- when the game is basically over, play catch-up on fouls so in the box score, the fouls look fair and even. Except for one game which will be 25 + so we can laugh at everyone know what we are doing.
Etc, more coming but these are some quickies off the top of my head.
Also to the NBA and the Refs, maybe we should play the series backwards and they seem to know who they wanted to win - give the trophy first and then play the games backwards.
