Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
I think they played the Sox at the wrong time. Boston's pitching is starting to get on a role and their offense is finally beginning to get better. Boston still has a great team and can still win the division.

Went from 30th to 18th place in MLB after this week, and 3rd in the division. Things are starting brighten up. Hopefully we can keep it going while Baltimore continues to struggle.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
The Rangers bullpen is the biggest concern with them. If they could get that fixed they would be very tough in the postseason.

He's leading the AL in strikeouts, wins, ERA, and innings pitched. Now, will he turn out like 2009 Grenkie and start to flame out in the second half or can he sustain this? My gut is that he sustains it. His ERA isn't going to be under 1.00 but it won't need to be to get wins with this LAA team. It's a shame he didn't play against the sox, I feel it could have have been a good test for both Weaver and the Sox

Maybe he dodged a bullet by not facing the Sox and keeping his streak alive. @ Magnus, I agree with your comparision with Grenkie falling in the second half, but much of that slump came from no run support, which is what Weaver suffered with last year. But he is doing too good and even only 1 run is enough to win. I expect his ERA to be around 2 and end of with 20 wins, more than enough to win the Cy Young with the rest of his stats (SO, Wins, WHIP, Innings pitches, etc) being top rate. Nice that an Angel made history of becoming the first pitcher to win 6 games before April 25th.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
I also forgot to mention that this game probably brought the best of him so far this season, cause of first pitch strikes. He knows how important first pitch strikes are. Not to mention, the thing with Weaver is that he is not a one dimensional pitcher, cause he has five different pitches and the cool thing is, because of his deception and the way he hides the ball, it's difficult for the opposition to know where the release point is and what pitch is coming. And the best part is, he knows how to command it, even when he is behind in the count, he finds ways to get the person out.

Exciting season so far. Maybe that's because both my teams are doing good and the team I hate most is struggling.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
Y'all are forgetting Cliff Lee.
Lee's first six in 08: 0.81 ERA, 0.60 WHIP in 44.2 IP. 25 H, 2 BB, 39 K Greinke's first six in 09: 0.40 ERA, 0.84 WHIP in 45 IP. 30 H, 8 BB, 54 K Weaver's first six in 10: 0.99 ERA, 0.79 WHIP in 45.2 IP. 26 H, 10 BB, 49 K
In any case, it's no contest: Roy Halladay is the best pitcher in baseball. Then again, I guess I'm biased towards IP. Dwight Gooden's 1985 season FTW.
Sabathia, for what its worth, is still quite a talent. He is eerily channeling Mike Mussina these days. You can't ask for a better #2.

Oh yes, I remember Lee in 08. Didn't he go 21-2 that year. I wonder if Weaver will follow that. Speaking of the Indian torrino, looks like they are getting back together again, makes me wonder if you are watching again. I find it strange that they have the best record in the AL, but the worse attendence in the majors. Where are the fans?

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
It's about time Ervin Santana gets a win. Also, I find it weird that the Angels are hitting better on the road than at home. Seems strange to me.
Also, @ torrino, another pitcher we can add to this list is Randy Johnson of 2002 (who also went 6-0 with an ERA under 1).

The management really alienate alot of fans the past couple of years with the constant trading. Looks like most of the trades worked out though, so expect attendance to pick up once people learn the players names.

Great come from behind victory for my Halos. I predicted that the Rays bullpen were going to have trouble closing games, and we got to them. Interesting to see how this momentum takes us in Boston.

Only fitting that the Sox stopped Weaver, Papi gets his 3rd homer, about time.

Well, there goes his perfect record. Thankfully this the last time he has to play them (since he is 2-5 career wise with them).

One more win to .500 and Beckett vs. Santana, I know this is probably terrible for you Scottie, but we need the wins.

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
2:48 in the morning and the game finally ends. Glad we pulled this one out after blowing the save. I think people knew that the Angels had the advantage in the bullpen since we had long relievers and Boston ran out of pitcher that they resorted to using Dice K (who wasn't ready). It's funny how all the Angel fans on the fansite are treating this like we won game 7 of the WS. Guess they really hate them.

Nice blowout today. Finally beat John Slackey. Looks like the Sox are back to their first week self again.

Probably the worst contract signing by the Red Sox since JD Drew, though where as everyone thought JD Drew could be great, Lackey was already pass his prime.

Forgot to mention this yesterday, but congrats to Scioscia on this 1000th managerial win. Great series against the best team in baseball, as all the games were close.

East is starting to get very tight. Sox have a very good chance to Sweep if Beckett stays sharp tonight and finally get to .500

Re: 2011 Major League Baseball Discussion
The AL East is really tight, 4 teams within 2.5 games of each other. Only the Orioles look dead in the water, although they will factor into this race at some point. The Red Sox have been very hot of late winning 6 straight and look to continue their streaking against the struggling Cubs.

Red Sox are now the Wild Card in AL and one game out of leading the division.
