Well, overall a very exciting first game, much better than previous one, that's for sure. Congrats to Germany, as well as to Costa Rica.

So, we win 4-2. We were never in danger in this game, but as I always predicted we have two major problems. First and foremost the defense is unable to set the offside trap and second the right side (Friedrich and Schneider) has been a catastrophy. The referee could have called a penalty for us and the secons Costa Ricanian (?) goal was offside IMO, but that was not the problem today. With a defense and a right side like today we won't win the group

no chance on the offside or the penalty -

Good game and some great goal's but Germany were shambolic at the back, God help them when they face a half decent team.

agreed. on the one hand i want england to play them... on the other- i don't coz we'll probably lose coz of the history and pressure and stuff. especially if it comes down to penalties

That's what I'm thinking. I don't see any reason why Costa Rica had to score those 2 goals. Horrible defense.

Indeed. Poland Ecuador next, can't say I'm expecting a classic there but i'll say the winners of that match will be going thru with Germany cause as bad as the German's were the Costa Rican's were even worse and don't stand a chance of nabbing 2nd behind the Host's.

God, that was a great game. Not as mindblowing as France vs. Senegal in 2002, but still great.
Somebody should just kill Friedrich, freaking moron. German defense is a shame, but the offense is even better than I expected. Top of the game for Lahm and Klose. The first goal...wow.
However, if they have such problems with defense against Costa Rica, I can't imagine what will happen in the game against Sweden.
By the way, I am sure the German press (whose pet is Kahn) will find some way to blame both goals entirely on Lehmann
But, boy, I just came from the center of the city and it's hell on the streets here

Apparently, that was the highest scoring first game since the 1930s, when Italy beat the US 7-1

Cool. I think I'm the only one who picked Ecuador. Can't see the game until lunch break.
Germany played their defense way too flat-line and close to the midfield. Can't do that against a finesse team, especially when Germany has the clear advantage upfront against Costa Rica's defense.

Yeah, a bit surprising. Weren't they said to be in the World Cup just because of the high altidue advantage? Hm. Maybe they want to prove something to the world.
