Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '08
This match is on so freaking late. It's 2339 central and they aren't even done with the 2nd set yet and it's at least going 4. My goodness.

Nice to see Fed's amazing semifinal streak (18) kept alive. It doesn't seem as flashy when placed next to his other records, but really, who was the last person to make it past like 4? Fucking EIGHTEEN.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '08
poor Roddick can't catch a break I'm glad to see these semis, I think they're clearly the top 4 in the world. I like the evolution of the men's games in the Federer era... first there was a top 1, with just him sitting on top of everyone else, then when Nadal came there was a top 2, then Djokovic last year presented a clear top 3, now Murray makes it 4. We're a far cry from the days when Ljubicic could get the 3 ranking.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '08
Congrats to Serena for making the final of the US Open.
I hope she wins her 9th slam title. I think she'll finish with 11 after this one.
Haven't been able to see much of the mens matches but good to know Fed is still in the running.

When Serena's on, she's unbeatable... 'cept by Henin. I honestly think she would've had 15+ majors if not for health issues and getting whooped repeatingly by Henin.

I'm worried that Saturday will be completely ruined with rain, and that the mens final won't be played until Monday.

Both semis are on court now, in an effort to get them in before rain. Roger leads 2 sets to 1, and Murray took the first set off Nadal.

Federer definitely has the advantage now with Nadal losing the first two sets and play suspended.

I thought they had a roof at the US Open. I guess it doesn't rain a third as much as in Wimbledon, so we don't notice.

Kinda crazy that Fed's clearly lost something this year, but if you look at it, he still went SF, F, F, F/maybe title, and like 57-12 overall. That's still a fantastic, fantastic year for anyone else.

Isn't it like 4 o'clock in NY? They're probably not doing it because it can't fit with the tv scheduling, lol.

Great match so far. Nadal 2 sets down though these top players are always capable of comebacks.

Men's final on Monday?
Since the Nadal and Murray match goes first why couldn't they just do that match then play the final later in the day? I hope the men's final isn't some morning affair on Monday then cuz who's going to watch it? What a terrible turn of events with the rain.

Tennis isn't golf, where you could cram two rounds into one day. It'd be very unfair to either player, especially if the first match goes to 5 sets.
The final will start at 5pm on Monday.

The final will start at 5pm on Monday. That start time is good. I'll be able to watch it now.

I really, really hope that Murray beats Nadal. If only because it'll be easier for Fed to win then.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '08
WOOOOOOO
Go Nadal! That game seemed like it could have told the way it was going to go for Nadal and he was able to come up with the win in that game.
Now he's up a break in the 4th. Fifth set here we come...

What's up with Englishmen and getting fucked over by rain delays. As if they needed any more reason to hate rain.

Wow, way to go Murray. Nadal has been looking tired all tournament long even though he looks like the fittest player I've ever seen.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '08
Wow, I thought Nadal had him for sure. I might actually favor Murray in the finals. He's looked crazy good/confident since coming back from two sets down against Melzer in the third round, like if he could beat that challenge, he could beat them all. Should be interesting nonetheless.
