First the bad news on the day.

Starting pitcher Josh Beckett has been put on the 15 disabled list for the skin tear. At this point, I think it's just a precautionary measure so that skin tear doesn't turn into a blister. This means he will miss his next two starts - Braves and Rangers and is expected to come back on the 29th against the Indians.

The good news

The Red Sox sweep the day-night doubleheader beating the Tigers 2-1 and 4-2. And I'm not sure if anyone saw the catch on SportsCenter, but Eric Hinske made the catch of the year while slamming his head in the outfield dirt in right during game two. He then went on to hit the game winning home run.

With both wins and the Yankees loss, the Red Sox are now 9.5 games up in the division. As I said before though, the Red Sox need to go 6-3 during this rough nine game stretch. At the moment, they're now 2-1 during the first three. The Sox offense needs to come alive during this next series with the Braves since the Sox are throwing out two rookie starting pitchers. The double header fucked them over because they would've had Tavarez or Wakefield for tomorrow (Tonight's) game. The good news though is that they'll have both for the Yankees series and Schilling.

Well thanks to another rainout, you guys might not face him............on the 29th. You'll most likely still face him, just not on that day. ;)

Blue Jays are about to go ahead of the Yankees! Nice to see them not sucking lately. Marcum ran a 10 inning no hit streak over his last two games too, impressive. Build up some starter endurance to pitch 95-100 instead of 75-80, and there's potential with this guy.

Pretty sure this is the first time we've been ahead of the Yanks past the first 30+/40+ games of the season or whatever in like, forever.

Too bad the rainout yesterday robbed us a Smoltz/Dice-K matchup and two close games (something like 14-11 in one and 3-0 in another).

Yeah, instead, we got a split but two lopsided games.

We'll that was the oddest doubleheader I've seen in quite sometime. I was expecting the Red Sox to lose the second game only because of who they had out on the mound, but I didn't expect it to be by that much. They were due to lose a game like that though.

And in that ten game stretch I was talking about (I said nine but I figured the schedule incorrectly) I said the Sox needed to go 6-3 (6-4) to be in good shape, they're 4-2. Unless the offense comes alive again against Tim Hudson (Who has the best ERA in baseball) they'll probably lose tomorrow with another rookie on the mound unless he can step it up unlike Hansack tonight.

I'm not sure whose going in the Yankees series on both sides, but I think Tavarez, Wakefield and Schilling are going to get starts. If all three pitch like they have been and with the Yankees staff the way it is, they should be in decent shape. I think the Yankees have Wang, Mussina and #3 (Maybe Pettite on short rest) going against the Sox. Pettite has been dominant over the past couple of starts, but Mussina and Wang have been below average.

Tim Hudson looks off today - four runs in the first inning so far including a three run triple to Varitek. I mean, anyone who gives up a triple to Jason Varitek can't be doing something right. Hopefully it'll keep up.

Once again, another good game for the BoSox. It was great to see what Gabbard was able to pull of today. He went way above and beyond my expectations going 5+ and giving up 2 runs on 6 hits. The bullpens (Atlanta and Boston) I thought also performed well today, especially Hideki Okajima. He's just unhittable at this point with a 0.42 ERA on the season, although he gave up two hits. The only thing I didn't like about how Terry Francona managed the bullpen today is the use of Jonathan Papelbon. Someone else should've pitched the 9th, not because of what he did in the 9th, but because he should've been saved for the Yankees. Besides it wasn't a save situation and he threw around 20 unecessary pitches. Hopefully he'll be okay to pitch tomorrow if he's called upon.

They're now 5-2 in the ten game stretch. And depending on what the Yankees do tonight, the Sox could be up by 11.5 games over the Yankees entering their series tomorrow night. And on top of that, despite the Yankees throwing out Wang, Mussina and Pettite in those three games, I still like the BoSox chances of taking 2 out of 3.

On a side note: Andruw Jones struck out 5 times today. I know he's in the middle of a godawful slump, but man oh man, this is a day I assume he just wishes he wasn't in the starting lineup.

When is ESPN going to realize that Joe Morgan is a horrible analyst? I mean Miller from time to time can have his gaffs, but listening to Morgan has become embarassing. He always hesitates before speaking, seems to have no idea what he's going to say half the time, and gives us information that's usually just common sense. Maybe once or twice a game he comes up with something worthwhile, but everything else is just horrid.

I find it funny that everyone is making it like the season is even CLOSE to being over...

There are about 120 games left for EACH TEAM...

People are already freaking out that their team sucks, whah whah whah!!!

What if said team goes 100-20?!?! That's at least 115 wins, and if that doesn't get you into the playoffs, I don't know what does.

Sorry to say, the Yankees are "still in it". Sure, I don't think they'll make the playoffs... mostly because the Red Sox, Tigers, Indians, and Angels are all better teams. But saying that they're "out of it" is just plain stupid.

I hate the AL central. I wish the Sox were in the NL central.

Well at least the BoSox didn't get swept and still have a very good 9.5 game lead over the Yankees. Schilling pitched like shit tonight though. At least they have a much needed day off coming up tomorrow.

Yea, Schilling dropped the ball last night, but it happens. Their still winning games, they just need to get the energy back up. I think they feel too safe right now.

The lead is back up to 11 with another Yankees loss. Hopefully it'll be 11.5 by the time SNL comes on.

Red Sox have a 11.5 game lead right now. The Yankees are 12.5 back. This is the worse for them since they were 16 games back in 1995. The Yankees are just really struggling right now. Also I would be wary of the Angels. They are playing great baseball right now and have probably one of the best 1-2-3 pictures in the game.

I don't know how, really. We started off so well tonight, yet only ended up getting like 6 hits the entire game, and allowing 11?

We're good in the clutch, for once?

I dunno what's going on, but we're underperforming hitting-wise, yet we're like the best team in the MLB right now next to Boston.
