I'd love to have him as a #5 if that's what you mean. Then again, we have a 20-something year old Jon Lester who we want to develop and showed a lot of promise last year, so maybe not.

Yankees are scrambling... they know their season looks to be in trouble, so they're throwing a mass amount of unneeded money out in an attempt to save it.

The Yankees are not scrambling. They've been wanting to do this since before the start of the season. It's needed now more because of the injuries, but the Yankees are not scrambling on May 6th.

Freddy Garcia seems to be loving the "soft" NL right now.

Speaking as a White Sox fan, Freddy Garcia lost a LOT of velocity last year, and apparently it hasn't come back this year. He now has to figure out a new way to pitch, which he obviously hasn't come close to fine tuning yet, if he ever can.
The NL is "soft." Is it a coincidence that pitchers' ERA goes up when they go from the NL to the AL? And Roger Clemens ERA was what, near 4 or above for his last year with the Yankees, and then he moves to the NL and is lights out. But this isn't necessarily to say that the NL has bad hitters, just that there's almost one guaranteed out every 9 batters. That's bound to improve anyone's ERA.

Whaaa? They just spent $28 million on a 44-45 year old rent-a-player and Roger made the decision three weeks before he was supposed to. You don't think the Yankees overpaid now did you? I mean, that would break a general trend they've created since '96. And a 45 year old jumping for extra cash (I'm talking like it's pocket change)? Noooooooooo. That's impossible.

CLEVELAND. WHERE MY BOYS (Terminator, Flava'd) AT?!
Where is Sizemore? Why does he swing like Branyan?
What is Blake doing? Or, was last season a fuckin' fluke?
When is Peralta going to step up for good, instead of this on and off game?
What's going on with CC? We drafted him as our Bartolo Colon replacement - a fast, strikeout throwing pitcher a la Schilling. Then he went Greg Maddux on us, becoming one of those calm, contemplative pitchers. Now he's a K machine again? What's happening?
Why is Byrd so good? He doesn't walk ANYONE.
Guys. Westbrook, Sabathia, Lee, Byrd, Carmona. If Westbrook and Lee can get it together, and Carmona stays somewhat solid (ERA below 5 is all we need, really), will any team have a better rotation?
But in all honesty, I don't know what's going on. Our hitting sucks, relief still sucks, blah blah blah. We're just winning close games.

I am neutral on how Clemens will workout but yes he is about 45 but he doesn't throw like he is 45, as he still should be throwing in the low 90's.
Also with the other Yankee pitchers hurt, the Yankees have to still go out and try to put out a good team for their fans, advertisers and tv.
so there is extra money in the contract to make up for the bad situation the Yankees are in through injuries.

So is Curt Schilling, but he has actually had some success in the American League over the past few years. Clemens has been pitching in NL and that's why he looks so dominant. He probably could've pitched another five years on his adapted schedule over there. I just think time is going to catch up to him in the AL - and that's especially what the Yankees do not need right now with their bullpen. He was averaging what, 3 ERA over 6 innings in the NL over his course of time there? Think he'll be able to mantain that now that he's a year older and now facing better hitters?
That saying, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts off pretty well since right around the time he comes back, Interleague Play begins.

Clemens wanted to come back right now. It was the other teams who didn't want him making a decision for the next three weeks.

No kidding. When someone throws $28 million at your feet to pitch 2/3's of a season, you'd be out of your mind not to take that.

Shit, I don't even like baseball in the regular season, but the Blue Jays are making me cringe. What the fuck were they doing signing Frank Thomas instead of some pitching? They're giving up 8-9 runs every game... soooo bad.

Red Sox complete the sweep of the Blue Jays outscoring them 26-5 in the series. It's good to see the Sox bats finally get going despite the fact that the Jays are really struggling with pitching right now.
Oh and the Yankees lost 14-2 today. All in all, this was a perfect baseball day.

When it rains it pours.
First B.J. Ryan is lost for the regular season.
Then Roy Hallady is placed on the DL for 4-6 weeks.
Now Troy Glaus comes up limping - Glaus who was already on the DL?
What the hell's going on?

What a trainwreck of a season.
I'm glad I'm a Raptors fan, not a Blue Jays one. Break a 9 game losing streak and Halladay gets an appendectimy. There must be something in the Toronto Italian food that kills appendixes.
Ah well it's not like the playoffs were in reach anyways.

With the Yankees pitching, if the Blue Jays made a deal at the deadline they could've been in the hunt for the Wild Card.

So Marcum has a no hitter through 6, they pull him at 78 pitches, relief comes in and loses the game. Smart.

BoSox win again 8-1 behind a complete game from Dice-K. They're now 26-11 and own the best record in baseball all to themselves (They were tied with.....THE BREWERS! entering today's game). If they can go 6-3 over this stretch of nine tough games, they'll be in very good shape.

They'll probably edge on the side of caution and sit Becket his next start. They don't want that blister flailing up on him again.
