About Us
Founded on July 12th, 2004 the World of KJ is a user owned and peer reviewed film and box office community website comprised of movie lovers and film industry professionals from around the world. Because the site is largely directed by the interests of its community, WoKJ focuses on a broad range of movie-related topics from box office predictions to Hollywood news and global cinema.

In January of 2011 WoKJ was re-launched with expansive new capabilities to better serve our prolific writing community. Although the WoKJ forums will remain largely unchanged and separate from the new site build, the revamped WoKJ design will grant all users the ability to create predictions, reviews, news and opinion pieces and publish them before a wide audience of their peers.

The new WoKJ site design is a work in progress and we are continuously looking for new ways to streamline and enhance design, add more user features and increase the overall level of enjoyability for our community. In the future we will be implementing new features that will offer more in-depth information on film releases, greater search and filter controls to allow easier content navigation and more detailed user metrics to better describe community dynamics. Below are some details about the new WoKJ functionality currently up and running on the site:

Babbles

Babbles are equivalent to a status update or tweet and give users the opportunity to write a short, 140-character-or-less phrase. Just saw a terrible flick but don’t have time to write a full movie review? Babble it!

Articles

All-encompassing in their potential scope, articles are the backbone of a user’s virtual presence on WoKJ and embody the core functionality of the new WoKJ design. Article types fall into four distinct categories: Box Office, Reviews, News and Opinions. Subtypes allow for additional article classification and facilitate better visibility through enhanced filter and search options. Article creation is handled by our own customized build of CKEditor, a powerful open source text editor that allows you to imbue your articles with links, images and web-based video. Articles can be as short as a few sentences or as long as a dozen pages.

Content Stream

A content stream contains all the babbles and articles generated by a specific user or, in the case of viewing your My Page, all the babbles and articles generated by the WoKJ users you are currently following. Content streams are ordered chronologically by default and can be filtered by article type and author.

Following

Following allows WoKJ users to connect with one another and keep up to date with their content. Following another user is as simple as clicking the “Follow” button next to the user’s avatar (profile image) on their user page. Following your favorite users ensures that your My Page content stream will always be fresh, while gaining followers reflects your clout or “pull” amongst the WoKJ community.

Ranking

They say cream always rises to the top, but unfortunately so does foam. In order to differentiate the two we’ve created the tools to allow real-time feedback of all work posted on WoKJ, allowing the best user-generated content to receive the most visibility and attention. Top rated content will be spotlighted on the WoKJ main page, circulated more heavily in content streams and have the ability to positively impact the user rank and standing of its author.
