Trailer Review
Ultraviolet
Zubin

Set in the late 21st century, a subculture of humans have emerged who have been modified genetically by a vampire-like disease (Hemophagia), giving them enhanced speed, incredible stamina and acute intelligence, and as they are set apart from "normal" and "healthy" humans, the world is pushed to the brink of worldwide civil war (a war between humans and hemophages) aimed at the destruction of the "diseased" population. In the middle of this crossed-fire is - an infected woman - Ultraviolet (Jovovich), who finds herself protecting a nine-year-old boy who has been marked for death by the human government as he is believed to be a threat to humans.

That is the plot for Ultraviolet, set to hit theatres Feb 26th 2006. I just had a look at the trailer/teaser for the movie and I really don’t have much hope for this film. The whole trailer gave me an ‘Aeon Flux meets Resident Evil 2’ vibe and that is NOT a good thing.
The trailer begins with Jovovich basically narrating how and why she is kicking ass. She then proceeds to kick ass in a series of incredibly quick cuts which by now anyone who has watched an action movie trailer in the last 2 years is familiar with. Ho – Hum. Add to that some clichéd lines like “You have jeopardized the entire mission by coming here” and “You will never get out of this complex alive” and you have more ho –hum.

Let’s talk about the music for a minute shall we. The first song used is Clubbed to Death by Rob Dougan which I think has been overused since its Matrix days, but its a good song so I shall let this one slide. The second song however, is 24 by Jem!! Yeah, I wont be surprised if you haven’t heard it and if you have you know it has no business being anywhere near an action flick.

Ok so a couple of scenes do look slick but that really doesn’t do much to help the overall feel of this trailer. I will be really, really surprised if this film has any substance and I think I can confidently say that this one is going to come and go without a murmur at the box office.
