Trailer Review
Chronicles of Narnia, Trailer 2
Loyal Mehnert

Trailer 2

Narnia is starting to look a little less like The Lord of the Rings (the talking beavers help). Still, with the snowy mountain caps, a fellowship of reluctant heroes, and epic battle scenes a plenty, it still looks A LOT like The Lord of the Rings (except with a good measure of talking beavers).

Really, the only bit of new info gleamed from the extended trailer is how British all the animals are. Which is great because as everyone knows, Brits have the best accents on the planet (sorry Brazil). Having humans and animals speak in the same dialect, no matter how great the dialect, is a creative decision however that I can't stand behind. I think the White Witch's polar bears should sound like Inuits.

For once I would like to see a trailer for an epic not contain choir music. Something a bit more up tempo, like Radiohead. Kid A's Where I End and You Begin is much more dramatic and would add a whole new dimension to the story.

The trailer is fine because when it really comes down to it, everyone has already made their minds up on Narnia. People are either very excited about it or they aren't. It's that simple. No Narnia trailer, no matter how well designed, will sway potential audience members. Personally, it looks interesting and I will see it opening weekend. Then again, I played Edmund Pevensie in a high school production of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. So I sort of have to see the film, to at the very least compare notes.
