Trailer Review
300
Zubin

People like me, who while away their time by watching trailers on the net, will know that Ifilm is now showing the promo trailer for '300'. After the success of "Sin City", "300" is the second graphic novel by comic genius Frank Miller to be adapted for the big screen. "300" concerns the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians; the battle is said to have inspired all of Greece to band together against the Persians, and helped usher in the world's first democracy. Director Zack Synder will be utilizing the famous (or infamous, depending on whether you liked it) green screen techniques that we saw in "Sin City" to create the backdrop for Ancient Sparta.

Test footage of this movie was shown earlier this year at Comic-Con, where it received rave reviews and got a lot of people very excited. I don’t know if the promo trailer encompasses the same footage shown at the convention, but I can say one thing for sure, it definitely gets me excited. The trailer itself is a low quality, VHS like format, so it’s not the best way to experience it. If you are someone who is a stickler about such things, I suggest you wait for the official release in nice shiny QuickTime.

The trailer show us glimpses of the Spartan way of life, a boy is examined at birth and health and physical structure determine whether he lives or dies. As an adolescent he is trained in the art of combat so that he may grow up to be a Spartan Soldier, the fiercest warriors the world has known. This is followed by a quick succession of high energy, highly stylized, not to mention brutal action shots, which leave no doubts as to why this film is rated R.

Even in this low quality version, you can tell that even if all else fails this film is going to have some fantastic visuals. You catch a lot of ‘Gerard Butler’ who plays King Leonidas in the film. The background score sounds familiar, (but really cool), I couldn’t quite place it though and Soundtrack.net doesn’t have the name posted yet. The teaser has enough to intrigue you, and leave you salivating for more. There are even some “What the hell was that!” moments. (People who have seen the creature posters for “300” will know what I am talking about).

Overall, this trailer has really got me pumped up for this super slick adaptation of one of Frank Miller’s best works. I can’t wait to catch a full length trailer in better quality. Attached is the link for the trailer, it has been on and off Ifilm quite a few times, so hopefully you will be lucky enough to catch it.
