The Incredibles

Pixar has emerged as the 800 lb. gorilla of film studios. And hot off its Best Animated Feature win at the Oscars, "The Incredibles " has arrived on DVD in a fantastic two-disc set.
The Film:
For the six people who don't know the basic plot, "The Incredibles " follows the ins and outs of life for a family of superheroes. Pixar broke the mold for this film, the first Pixar release to be rated PG and the first to cater to adults, as much as (if not more than) it catered to children.
Disc One:
"The Incredibles " DVD looks and sounds great thanks to a digital to digital transfer and Dolby Digital EX 5.1. If you want to impress your friends and family, look no further than the "100 Mile Dash" sequence. But in this golden age of DVD, a crisp transfer and solid sound mix isn't much to talk about.
Disc Two:
The real superpowers of "The Incredibles " lie on the second disc. This is perhaps the first "kids DVD" that contains content for the older crowd. You do have your standard fare like the very funny "Jack-Jack Attack" sequence, the animated short " Boundin ," various deleted scenes, bloopers, and very in-depth behind the scenes documentaries. But if you look deeper into the second disc, you'll find a pair of highly detailed and extremely entertaining special features.
The first feature is a "Mr. Incredible and Pals" vintage cartoon that includes commentary from Mr. Incredible and Frozone . Hilarious is putting it mildly. When Frozone goes on a rant about being animated as a white person, you know you're in for a treat.
The second feature involves archived interviews with superheroes that were only mentioned in the film or shown on screen during Edna Mode's famous cape speech. Any fan of superhero comics will love the detailed breakdown of powers and weaknesses. This feature could have ended up being just entertaining but with the addition of actual interviews with the superheroes, this feature has become one of my all time favorites.
There is also a pair of easter eggs on disc two. The more exciting of the two is a series of explosions set to Il Trovatore's Anvil Chorus.
The Verdict:
It's not even close. Pixar delivered a masterpiece with "The Incredibles ." It's written in the stars that the DVD will become a bestseller and while Pixar and Disney could have released a very plain and basic DVD full of the usual fluff, what we got instead was a rare DVD that expands upon the movie in a fun and entertaining way.
Spin It!!!
