Quote:
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, released in 1999, is the second film in the Austin Powers series that began with 1997's Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and continued with Austin Powers in Goldmember. The film was directed by Jay Roach, co-written by Mike Myers and screenwriter Michael McCullers, and once again stars Myers as the title character. Myers also plays Dr. Evil and Fat Bastard. This sequel was followed in 2002 by Austin Powers In Goldmember.

The film's title is a play on the 1977 Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me and contains plot elements from James Bond films, Diamonds Are Forever (Laser Gun Plot and Cloning), You Only Live Twice (Secret Volcano Base), Moonraker (Outer Space Ventures), The Man with the Golden Gun (Mini Me based on character Nick Nack) and On Her Majesty's Secret Service (opening sequence in which Vanessa Kensington dies).

The film grossed around US$310 million in worldwide ticket sales, taking more money during its opening weekend than the entire box office proceeds of its predecessor. It was nominated at the 72nd Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Makeup.

The best of the Austin Powers trilogy. Surprisingly rewatchable, for a comedy film like this. Great characters (hooray for Fat Bastard).

Better than the original, not quite as good as the third movie. Many funny scenes, but some jokes just didn't work for me.

An improvment over the original. Heather Graham is better than Elizabeth Hurley and is the best Austin Powers girl to date. Humor worked much better in this one, especially all the stuff with Dr. Evil. Didin't like Fat Bastard much, though.

Okay I suppose I'm in the minority? I think the original is a little better, but this one still had me dying laughing. A.

When this came out, I thought this was the best, over the years, the first holds up just a little better. but this film is definitely great. the series in its prime.

Austin was still funny
Dr. Evil was amazingly hysterical
Fat Bastard and Mini Mi were great additions
and Heather Graham, wow!!

"I want you to make a series of interconnected tunnells like the Vietcon!" Austin had some great lines in this one.
"I can't say I recall your name, but...Your...Fez... Is....Familiar (Laughs to himself, then stops and continues pointing his gun)
"The 70s and 80s, I looked into it. There was a gas shortage and a flock of seaguls, thats about it"

Where the first film is an A+, this also gets an A+ for it joins the very small list of great comedy sequels, like the Naked Gun 2, Hot Shots Part Deux, and thats about it. Its miles above the third.

My 2nd favorite austin powers. I think this is right behind goldmember but it is still hilarious. Fat bastard is fuckin hilarious, and mini me is great. For some reason everytime Dr. Evil talks, I just find it amusing. Funnny Funnny film. A-

A fun entry in the franchise and a worthy sequel but its definitely inferior to the original in almost all aspects. The whole Fat bastard joke didn't land with me but Dr. Evil still stays as the best character of the franchise.

Mini Me and Fat Bastard were instant pop culture icons that are still remembered to this day. A+

Austin Power 4 in 2022 would be a fucking huge hit.

Maybe you’d have better luck asking for a sequel in the Goldmember thread. Spy Who Shagged Me (the worst one but still hilarious) already did its part.

Like Dumb and Dumber To, Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, and a bunch of sequels, I'm afraid even if it gets made now it won't be any good.

I absolutely love the Austin Powers movies. Three of my all-time favorite comedies. But I'm at the point where I'm fine if that 4th doesn't get made.
