Quote:
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is a 2025 American action spy film directed by Christopher McQuarrie from a screenplay he co-wrote with Erik Jendresen. The sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023), it is the eighth and final[6] installment in the Mission: Impossible film series.[7][8] Tom Cruise (who is also credited as the primary producer), Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett reprise their roles from the previous films.[9][10]

It's decent, but honestly fairly forgettable and a disappointment after the highs of the last few films. There's way too much expository dialogue and for the first two thirds the 'fun' factor of this franchise is definitely missing. Thankfully it makes up for it with the final third which is exquisitely done and the plane sequence and underwater scene are all timers. B-

1. Fallout
2. Dead Reckoning
3. Ghost Protocol
4. Mission Impossible 3
5. Rogue Nation
6. Final Reckoning
7. Mission Impossible
8. Mission Impossible 2

Yeah a common complaint about this movie will be that the first hourish is way too slow and boring and that they really didn't need to try so hard to tie it back to the older films. And everyone who makes that point will be absolutely right. There's a whole scene where Gabriel is all like "remember the macguffin from MI3, where the whole point of tthe rabbit's foot is that it could be anything, oh yeah that was actually THE ENTITY!!!" ... come on man. And they bring back so many random characters or relatives of old characters yet not the one everybody wanted back cause WHERE TF IS ISLA? I've spent the last two years being assured that she wasn't really dead, but not only does she not appear in the movie she ain't even mentioned outside of a flashback montage of Ethan's love interests. Also missing in action: Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Maggie Q, Thandie Newton and Vanessa Kirby ... It's almost like they have something against cool women and people who were nearly killed by snow plows. But don't worry, the one guy who found Ethan's knife in the first Mission Impossible is back! Everyone rejoice!

All that being said...

Once this movie Finally gets going it's just as awesome as the best of the series. The real movie starts with the scene where he tries to convince the president and the board of his plan, seemingly failing, but then getting the OK from Kamala Harris the President who has first hand experience with the whole doubting Ethan's intentions and then later being proven wrong thing. Ethan jumping out of the plane into the freezing water starts an incredible underwater sequence that goes on for almost an hour. And while the plane sequence begins pretty similiarly to the beginning of Rogue Nation and the end of Fallout, by the time Tom is walking on the wing you forget all about that and are just completely sucked into the spectacle.

So... I'd give the first half of the film a 5/10, the second a 9/10 and that'll balance to a decent, but could've been better 7/10 for Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning.

Kinda underwhelming. Not bad but for an almost 3 hour film it doesn't really have the 'wow' sequence you'd expect from the recent films.
