Re: Final Destination Bloodlines
Reminded me of Scream 6, where they begin with a mission statement "oh ho ho, this one is gonna be different than the others!" and then it just slowly morphs back into what we've come to expect from the franchise. Generation trauma isn't exactly uncommon in the horror game these days (in fact, we've already had a Stephen Kinged up version of Final Destination this year with The Monkey), but it is well implemented here. The family are mostly very likeable and you're never cheering for anyone to die.
The ending ... ehhh
If you're gonna do that then you absolutely have to kill Tony Todd on a beach somewhere either right after or during the credits. Not doing so showed a lack of balls, another thing it has in common with Scream 6.
You can tell they had a bigger budget with this one. The opening premonition is a riot. My favorite since the highway scene in 2.
I'd give the first half a 9, the second a 7, balanced out to a solid 8/10 for Final Destination 6.
