Spencer
Quote: Spencer is a 2021 biographical psychological drama film directed by Pablo Larraín and written by Steven Knight.[5] The film stars Kristen Stewart as Diana, Princess of Wales (née Spencer), and follows Diana's decision to end her marriage to Prince Charles (played by Jack Farthing) and leave the British royal family. Timothy Spall, Sean Harris, and Sally Hawkins also star.
Spencer had its world premiere in-competition at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on 3 September 2021. It is scheduled for a theatrical release in the United Kingdom and the United States on 5 November 2021. The film has received positive reviews from critics, with particular praise for Stewart's performance.

Re: Spencer
Omg, Kristen SLAYED this role and the Oscar is HERS to win! Her Diana conveys the appropriate nervous, anxiety ridden woman who yearns to escape her life. The movie is a visual feast for the eyes and the cinematography and costume design are sublime, but the real standout here is queen K. Stew. Need to see this again to absorb more of it

This is just the most excited I’ve been about a movie in a bit and with probably my favorite actress ever who’s had so much hate thrown her way for so many years actually giving such a performance like this is astounding, there really actually is a lot to absorb re: the symbolism and other elements of the art house nature of the film

Re: Spencer
I mean if she is your favourite actress you should be excited but I'm skeptical why you are surprised. KStew has been working since her childhood and has given many good performances.

Re: Spencer
Oh she most definitely has! I wouldn’t say I’m “surprised” per se it’s just that she’s had so much had thrown her way (and I thought she was a very good Bella Swan btw) that now she’s actually the front runner for Best Actress is just amazing in the best way

Re: Spencer
She was among top 10-top 15 for supporting actress few years back and Academy loves to give actress award to younger actress who do different-yet-familar roles like KStew. The biggest concern was the backlash from Twilight but that seemed to have been subdued by now.

I'm planning to see it Tuesday but have very low expectations. If I hated Jackie is it still possible I'll like this? Doesn't seem much different.

Re: Spencer
Yeah, I'm dreading seeing this to be honest, especially with the unbelievably obnoxious marketing campaign NEON has put out there and the fact that I'm not a Stewart fan usually.

Re: Spencer
Well it did bomb this weekend even by pandemic standards. My biggest problem is not with the QK, it’s just with everything going on about Diana now it’s just way too fictional, despite the top notch direction (I think that is being overshadowed here) it’s is Jackie all over again. Stewart is good here but not enough. B

I liked this much, much more than Jackie. Yeah I'm in this camp. Like Cory I was kind of dreading this. Honestly contemplated seeing something else and waiting for streaming for this. But I figured if I'm going to watch it it may as well be in the theater. Plus if I skip something I'm not that interested in in the theater I never get around to seeing it at home. I'm really glad that didn't happen with this. I thought it was very good and Kristen Stewart is great. Her performance is captivating. A really pleasant surprise. 8/10 (B+)

Re: Spencer
This was a mixed bag for me. Kristen was fine though I never for one moment forgot I was watching her acting - it felt like a stronger variation on a performance she's given time and time again. There were some really gorgeous visuals as well. I felt like the screenplay was a total mess and the Anne Bolelyn stuff didn't work at all (and was borderline unintentionally hilarious). C+

This is on itunes now. I can't pay $25 for it, but that means it'll be a reasonable price in about a month. That's an oscar trend I can get behind.

Stewart runs with this easily. The movie overall had it's problems but somehow Stewart makes it better.

Re: Spencer
This was excellent. Kristen has been rightfully getting all the accolades for her powerhouse of a performance, but I think that is actually underselling the movie. The direction is quite impressive. It feels like it started as a Downton Abbey style, but then they said "what about Barry Lyndon?" And if you're gonna draw from any stuffy English period piece in history then that is probably your best choice. The ultra wide shots that still feel claustrphobic is right out of the Kubrick playbook. And the intense but still classy score tops it all off. My biggest complaint is that it felt about 10-20 minutes too long. Though I suppose its not such a bad thing to watch Princess Diana get a happy ending for once.

Re: Spencer
This was pretty boring. Stewart does a good job but all she does is walk around looking sad and then have a sad conversation followed by walking around looking sad followed by eating looking sad followed by standing looking sad followed by getting dressed looking sad.
