Quote:
Coming 2 America is a 2021 American comedy film that serves as a sequel to the original 1988 film starring Eddie Murphy. The film is directed by Craig Brewer from a screenplay by Kenya Barris, Barry W. Blaustein, and David Sheffield, and a story by Blaustein, Sheffield, and Justin Kanew, based on characters created by Murphy. It is the second installment in the Coming to America film series, and stars Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, Teyana Taylor, Wesley Snipes, and James Earl Jones.

Originally to be theatrically released by Paramount Pictures, the film's distribution rights were sold to Amazon Studios due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Amazon released it digitally via Prime Video on March 4, 2021. Coming 2 America received mixed reviews from critics.

Whatever works in the first movie completely fails here. The love story is side arc, the comedy is mostly a miss. The only thing that works here is nostalgia and the actors that are on their A-game here specially Eddie Murphy.

1) This movie is only for people who Love the first one.

2) It should have been called Coming To Zamunda

Coming 2 America has a lot of the same elements that made other recent long-delayed comedies (Bill&Ted, Borat, Jay and Silent Bob, Bad Boys For Life, etc... ) work, but it also feels kinda lazy. For every hilarious bit there’s an unnecessary celebrity cameo. And it ends with a ten minute dance party scene set to “We Are Family.” What is this Minions 3?

Still, the story is mostly enjoyable. The reverse of what happened in the first movie is what it takes to bring Hakeem and Lisa back to their roots and lessen the pressure of living up to his father’s legacy. Arsenio gets sidelined for most of the film, but the scene where he charges in to fight Wesley Snipes with the other daughters would have earned a round of applause in a crowd theater. The movie works, but just feels like they could have aimed a little higher.

I liked it, but the comedy really fell flat IMO after the first 30 minutes which I honestly thought was pretty great. Wesley Snipes was easily the highlight of the movie for me and I wish he had more scenes with Eddie, but I got the biggest laughs whenever he was on screen. I enjoy the original, but it does rely a bit too heavily on nastolgia.

It has some good moments, but this is a mostly lame sequel. Centering on his illegitimate son didn't work at all for me, guess I just don't like the dude also and instead of "coming to America" this was really a "coming to Zamunda" and it's just far not as good. Snipes is great, Tracy Morgan is Tracy Morgan which I don't mind, but Leslie Jones is just too much in your face. It's fun for some of the throwback, but it simply lacks good comedy.

Not bad, but way too long. It was really solid for about 45 minutes, then I was like, oh no we're not even half way through yet. Sad there was no Cuba Gooding Jr. or Sam Jackson cameo.

I think the biggest problem with a fish out of water comedy is that you need to A. Care about the one going through it, and the son's family is about as cliche as you get. B. it means Murphy and the others (Who were all solid) had to be relegated to reactive characters, they could have honestly nixed the whole son and focus on the daughter becoming the first Queen, which would have been far more interesting (And to go with the title, find her a husband from America) As it is, it's a reluctant mixed bag because I really enjoyed the returning characters and the setting.
